We have just spent 4 nights at 88 the lodge. What a full-on 5 star experience! Geoff and Chris are the most amazing hosts with the finest attention to detail. In particular, the wonderful room, gardens, AMAZING home grown and made breakfasts and detailed advise on trips to do in this wonderful area. If you are planning a stay in the bay of islands, this is THE place to stay.

If your looking for a B & B with great breakfast's (Chris will make whatever you want for breakfast), comfortable beds and linens surrounded by lush gardens, then don't miss the opportunity to stay here. The owners, Geoff & Chris are very knowledgeable of the area and can give you itineraries for everyday of your stay. The Majestic Suite was where we stayed which had it's own private patio and private entrance. It has wireless internet, cable TV (however, not many channels on our visit, they said there was an issue), DVD & CD player (however they were very difficult to use due to the set-up, you'll have to have Chris show you). The room and bath area were spacious along with a sitting area and desk.

The location was secluded from any pedestrian or vehicle traffic and no more than a 10 minute drive into KeriKeri. Tip of the day: they charge $10 to wash and $10 to dry, a small load of clothing. Do your washing before you arrive. Enjoy

Room Tip: Majestic Suite is the best. I can't recommend the other's since we did not see them.

Thank you for your review, it is always pleasing that people take the time to place a review. We have noted your comment about the cost of use of the laundry. We will review this. At this time we believe this is in-line with local laundry costs. The entertainment equipment is not straight forward due to the complexity of the number of facilities we provide in The Majestic Suite (Tape, CD, DVD, hard drive, film library, TV, freeview, indoor and outdoor speakers, ethernet, USB connections and access for a wide range of devices often used by guests). We have plans to streamline these facilities with a view to making them more user friendly. The Freeview problem we were having at the time of your visit has been rectified and 18 channels are now available. We have recently installed HD Wifi throughout the Lodge at considerable cost which we know gives us a service that is not available in other similar accommodations and unlike hotels we provide this FREE.

Geoff and Chris are wonderful hosts and are very knowledgable about the area. They have great recommendations and will book restaurants and sightseeing tours for you if you require. The location while a hidden secret, is within easy reach of all the local attractions. Surrounded by beautifully kept gardens, the rooms at 88 are very well set up with large confortable beds and good bathrooms. Breakfast is a highlight and includes flakey home-made croissants and fruit grown on the property. I would recommend 88 as very good value. Robyn and Tim

Thank you for being so very complimentary about our accommodation. You enjoyed our King Palm Room and we know you would have really enjoyed our Majestic Suite, which would surely have generated a 5 rating for ‘rooms’ from you. The Majestic Suite is huge and enjoys a super king sized bed, settee and armchairs, desk, private terrace with hammock plus table and chairs and an en-suite with both a bath and separate shower cubicle. A little bit more yes, but well worth the difference we believe and still very good value.

Very clean. Delicious food. Expert local advice. When we return we will stay here. The atmosphere is peaceful. A beautiful garden setting. Jeff and Chris most helpful with not only local advice but also offering to do extra to get a flat tire repaired on a local holiday with no place open. Convenient to all Bay of Islands locations.

It is not often we get faced by a flat tire on a guests hire car, and absolutely typical that such an event should happen on a public holiday, but happy to have helped out as much as we could. Do trust there where no further recurrences during the rest of your vacation. It would be a delight to have you back at 88 Lodge when ever you are next in the area.

The 88 Lodge is a wonderful place to stay and perfect especially if you´d like to explore the beautiful bay of islands. Chris and Geoff are very friendly, funny and caring hosts. They gave us a lot of useful information about things to see, to do and where to eat. We loved the tropical garden with the pool and our room with the terrace. The breakfast was delicious, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice, yoghurt, omelettes and of course the best croissants we ever had! We felt like home and would love to come back.

It is so good to receive your kind review and see your comment about ‘funny’. How well we remember Mr Noodle. It’s a shame we cannot share that moment and catch phrase from your holiday with everyone on Trip Advisor. It’s moments like that which make our role as B&B hosts so enjoyable. The swimming pool has been at 30C since your visit and so many guests (& ourselves) have enjoyed this special place so much this year.

We would thoroughly recommend the 88 Lodge which we stayed in during December 2013 for three nights as part of a driving holiday in New Zealand. The house and grounds are attractive and tranquil, particularly the beautifully laid out gardens. The bedroom was fitted out to a very high standard and looked out on to the gardens. The hosts, Chris and Geoff, could not have been more welcoming. Particular highlights were the breakfasts with freshly squeezed orange juice from their own oranges, fresh fruit salads made from their own fruit and home-made croissants. This was easily one of the best breakfasts we had had anywhere. In addition, the host couple were able to recommend and book days out like a trip on the sail boat, R Tucker Thompson, which was great as well as another day just spent walking and exploring some of the highlights of the coastline. All in all it was outstanding and we were only sorry that we could not have stayed longer. We would certainly return another year.

Your kind words say everything that a fellow traveller needs to know about the Bay of Islands (so much to do from day sailing on R.Tucker Thompson, to exploring the wonderful beaches just north of us), and 88 Lodge (our fresh and delightfully different breakfasts and well appointed accommodation). We always love making our guests feel ‘at home’ and ensuring they get experiences from their time in the area that meets individual preferences. There is just so much to do locally that no matter how long you stay a return trip is always necessary. We are so pleased you enjoyed your time with us.

We were guests at 88 Lodge the week end the marathon and street fair were in Kerikeri, NZ and it made our stay even more delightful and exciting. Chris and Geoff capably wore many hats that weekend and we still felt we were their number one priority. They made sure we knew the roads to use to avoid the congestion of the marathon, left their planning duties at the street fair to personally welcome us at the Lodge, took time to talk with us regarding our interests, and made arrangements for us to join their reserved seating at the fair.
One of the activities arranged for us was a fishing trip. The men had a great time and had enjoyed the "unexpected" catch of a 14 pound snapper. Chris and Geoff said at breakfast before we left for the fishing expedition to feel welcome to bring the fish back to the Lodge for cooking. Were they ever intuitive!
Breakfasts were always delectable with croissants that melted in your mouth. Our rooms were well appointed and the beds most comfortable. We loved the lodge and grounds and only regret we were unable to stay for more days to enjoy our hosts and the gardens.

The Kerikeri ½ marathon and Street Party weekend is always so popular and it is our privilege to be part of the Street party organization. Your snapper picture now resides proudly in the photo gallery on our website ‘What our guests are up to’. The 4 of you enjoyed some of your snapper cooked fresh by the restaurant at the end of the pier and the snapper you brought back to the Lodge made us two wonderful dinners as well. Definitely a good catch. Fishing aside you all enjoyed your time here but it was a shame it was not longer because there is just so much to do and enjoy here in Northland that a few days is never enough.
