“Great local knowledge from genuine friendly hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 January 2008

We were recommended this place by the B&B we were hoping to stay at and were very pleased to have been passed on to them. And doubly pleased to have based ourselves in KeriKeri to check out the Bay of Islands rather than overly touristy Pahia or Disney-like Russell.

Wendy gave us a warm greeting and as soon as we arrived sat us down to find out what we had seen so far and what our plans where and filled in lots of gaps with great local knowledge pointing us to spots we would never have otherwise found out about.

A little bit out of town, so we drove in for Pizza at the Black Olive restaurant for supper - again, Wendy was full of recommendations and the ususal book of local menus to choose from was in the B&B - many of the local restaurants are lunchtime only joints.

3 double rooms were available with a shared bathroom and living room area in the wing we stayed in, but only one booking is taken at a time so we did not have to share the space with strangers, but plenty of space for a family and lots of Tony's paintings on the walls of local scenes which you could purchase direct (at commission free prices!). Neutrally decorated in a modern style. V comfy bed.

Breakfast was the best bit, delicious corn cakes and bacon using home grown produce and fab blueberry pancakes. Tony and Wendy both present, again keen to make sure we made the most of the area and share their knowledge of NZ.

Guest book was full of praise so we were clearly not the only people to have had a great stay.

Right level of friendly B&B engagement without being overbearing or overly involved.

What can I say, both Wendy and Tony were excellent hosts and really cared that you make the most of your time when you stay with them. Wendy was full of good ideas on things to do which really personalised the visit for us, including recommending good restaurants for the evenings.

I thoroughly recommend the cooked breakfast, especially the blueberry pancakes – I can still taste them now!
