“Do NOT pass this place up!!!”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

Wife and I spent our first anniversary with the Inn and it was the best decision we made. Excellent location, lots of charm, warm environment, and a very clean and comfortable stay. Looking back on our time there, I would be willing to pay more money per night for a stay there (if you are from the Inn, forget you read that). From the food, to the rooms, to the grounds...all aspects of this place make it a quiet gem that we will be back to many times. The organically grown food they produce on site is amazing. We cannot recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: The Captains Room is ideal...windows on three sides of the room make the room light up with sunlight...

Green Features: No pesticides in garden and most food is grown or sourced locally.

Wow, and thank you so much! Of course I believe you are the first to suggest we actually raise our rates, but I will ignore it as you requested :) It was very nice to meet you both, and glad you had a nice anniversary with hopefully many more to come. Cheers! lori

We recently got back from our honeymoon and we could not have picked a better location. If you are looking for a great escape from the business of the rest of the world and just wanting to relax, look no further than the Inn at Tabbs Creek. Lori, Greg, and Dave are all friendly and there when you need them, and excellent at recommending different activities and eateries in nearby Matthews. When we first arrived we were shown around and thrilled with the beautiful landscape. The views of the sunrise and sunset off the water is simply breathtaking, and there are many flowers and tree around the Inn. There is water, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate provided for the guests, along with marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers for making s'mores over the firepit. When we first arrived we ordered one of their cheese trays and it came with four varieties of cheese, black grapes, apple and orange slices, and two types of crackers, all served on a wooden cheese board with knives for slicing and spreading. It lasted us two days and we were a little bummed when it was all gone!
The breakfasts are above and beyond the standard fare you might find at others B&Bs. The tomatoes, potatoes, and berries are all picked fresh from the garden and are used in many recipes that the owners are glad to share with you. Each day we were there was a buffet-style meal because there were so many other guests, and there was always something different. I usually went back for seconds because the food was just so delicious and an excellent way to start the day! The company of the guests was also warm and inviting during each morning.
We plan to return to the Inn for our first year anniversary. We highly recommend it as a relaxing and romantic getaway!

It was so nice to meet you both, and glad you had a great honeymoon! Thanks for such a nice review of our property, and it always makes us smile when we see how much people enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds us like the amazing sunsets and waterside fire pit. Also thanks for noticing all the fresh produce...we work hard on our garden and so pleased when we see our guests enjoying the bounty of our labor :) all the best to you both and hope to see you next year!

Our time at the inn was just simply a beautiful. Greg, Lori and brother Dave were so wonderful and kind. Each morning the breakfast so fresh and so very good. The property is a beautiful and peace place. And the town of Matthews is something to experience. My husband and I look forward to visiting again in the near future. If you need a quite, sweet, beautiful place to retreat look no further. This is it!

This bed and breakfast was exemplary in every aspect--from the gourmet breakfast that has me inspired to emulate some of the recipes, to the landscape with tons of perfectly grouped lounge spots, this inn is a fantastic place to take a step back and unwind.

Greg, Lori and David were immensely helpful but unobtrusive, allowing the guests to enjoy the property. The small touches set this place apart--the hot water always out for tea, the in-room Keurigs if you're staying in the cottage, the collection of beach towels available for use.

My sister and I had a wonderful two day getaway and I only wish we could have stayed longer. I'll also note there were a variety of guests staying at the Inn--newlyweds, older couples, and people somewhere in the middle.

Thanks to the Inn at Tabbs Creek for everything, we hope to be back sometime soon!

I'll admit it up front - B&Bs are not my favorite places to stay. Too often they are overly precious (lace doilies and antiques everywhere, afternoon teas, etc.) or you feel like you are staying at the house of someone you don't know and it's hard to feel at ease. At their best, however, B&Bs can provide a far more personal travel experience than a hotel, with unique accomodations, personal touches, and the kind of service that you really can't get at a hotel.

The Inn at Tabbs Creek is a B&B at its best. From the moment you arrive at the beautiful property, situated on a creek off a river off the Chesapeake Bay, and are greeted by Dave, Greg, or Lori, to the moment you reluctantly set off down the long driveway to head home, your time at the Inn will be one perfect moment after another. The rooms (we stayed in the East River Suite) were large and beautifully furnished - a home away from home. Our suite included a sitting room, bedroom (with large, comfortable bed and spacious jacuzzi) and bathroom. The coffee (according to my travel companion - I'm not a coffee drinker) was excellent, whether from the in-room Keurig machine or up at the main house at breakfast.

And those breakfasts - amazing is the only word for them. Fresh fruit, tomatoes and potatoes straight from the garden, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bread pudding - something new every day, and always with an interesting and delicious preparation (recipes get posted on their FB page and are well worth looking up). Saturday and Sunday breakfasts were buffet-style, and shared with our fellow guests (as befits a great B&B, they attract a great clientele - we enjoyed our shared meals and our conversations with the other guests).

The Inn has a lovely pool (with comfy pool towels provided) - something not available at many B&Bs - as well as a firepit (with s'more ingredients provided), a dock for fishing or stargazing, and beautiful gardens and lawn. Although we did not make use of them, they have kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards (I'm sure it would have been amusing for the other guests to see me on a stand-up paddleboard, but I spared myself the indignity).

The website for the Inn has plenty of additional information on the property and amenities, so I'll instead turn to the intangibles - the things that really make a vacation special. Top of my list for a B&B is owners who are there when you need them, but are not intrusive. Lori, Greg, and Dave excel at this. They are friendly and full of information (on getting around Mathews County, local restaurants, etc...), they host a Saturday night wine and cheese (and other goodies) happy hour for any guests who wish to attend. They do everything they can to make sure you enjoy your stay, and they have thought of everything. But they don't hover, and you can have as much privacy as you want.

Another intangible is the general atmosphere, and here again the Inn at Tabbs Creek is perfect. You feel welcome and comfortable right away. The owners enjoy what they do, and it comes through all the time. They make it easy to meet the other guests and interact with them, and we had a great time talking with everyone at the breakfasts, the happy hour, or sitting around the firepit.

One nice amenity available to guests is boat cruises/charters on an oyster boat - they leave from the dock at the B&B. We went on a sunset cruise on Saturday night with two other couples who were staying at the Inn (and were rewarded with an amazing sunset), which included a lesson in shucking oysters. The boat charters/cruises are an additional cost, but everything can be arranged through Greg, Lori, and Dave.

As should be obvious by this point, I recommend the Inn at Tabbs Creek without reservation.

(I will also second the recommendations for the White Dog Bistro - the food was excellent.)

Whoa, don't know where to begin to thank you for such a nice and intensive review! We really appreciate it and we do strive to be a little different and more laid back than the average b&b, so thanks for noticing. It was great to meet you both and so nice that you had a special reunion. Cheers! Lori

A unique experience with the locals far off the international tourist map. Wonderful breakfasts and warm welcoming hosts.Comfortable beds, much needed bug protection and access to fishing equipment and water craft delivered a perfect restful 4 days. A call from Lori to the owner of the White Dog Bistro resulted in a behind a scenes tour of his not yet open car museum (scheduled for 2015) for my husband. Area restaurants were all of good standard with the White Dog Bistro a step up. We may well be the first Australians to stay at the Inn but we won''t be the last.

The inn @ Tabbs creek is a great place to get away. If you can't relax here, it is your fault. The owners make you feel right at home. We have been to many and this was the best. Please check out the white dog bistro in Matthews for dinner.
