“Very comfortable stay”

Stayed Saturday night, December 16. The hotel was full due to the Stagg Bowl game, Dickens of a Christmas in downtown Roanoke, and apparently some weddings. Took a while to check in, and the only negative for me was that the only rooms they had remaining (we arrived at 6:30 pm) had two double beds . The valet parking was fine, the lobby was crowded, but I thought the bustle was energizing. The room was average size, a little small even, but nicely appointed. The best part was the bed. What a comfortable mattress, crisp, luxurious linens, and pillows that I wanted to take home. The climate control was excellent, I slept like a baby. Didn't eat in the restaurant this time, but the Regency Room has always been excellent. All in all, a quality stay. I've had to stay in a lot of hotel rooms this year, and this was an exceptional value for the money.

returned for a 2 day stay after a stay last April. This time, there were several problems. Bellmen situation at check in was atrocious. They need to hire more staff esp when there is a wedding. Our bags sat for 15 min before I went and got them. Towels in bathroom were threadbare. Executive Lounge breakfast was inadequate- not enough choices. Night hostess though was very gracious as was one of the women who worked in Room Service who saw how harried I was after a long trip and made sure we also got extra towels. (Wish I could recall her name). Internet connection was difficult to use at first, and hotel charges for this. Food and service in Pine Room were very good. Gift shop is excellent- has all kinds of gifts as well as extra supplies, sodas, coffee- one of the best. Would stay again- hope hotel corrects some of the problems.

We spent a Saturday night here after a VA Tech football game mainly because it was one of the few hotels available when I was booking. (It is 40 mins from the campus) Negatives: the largest one being that there is no counter space in the bathroom because there is only a small pedestal sink. There was barely room for my toothbrush never mind my toiletries and makeup. The hotel is very noisy! We were on the executive floor which is right next to the lobby. We could hear the music from the hotel lounge and groups of people in the lobby area until 2 am. There were other random noises as well, such as the hotel staff setting up a buffet in the Pine Room at 7:00 am Sunday morning and coughing in a nearby room. The room TV is small. There is valet parking which it should since the walk to the hotel entrances is a 3 min. walk up a steep incline if you self park. The outside pool is on the small size. Positives: the hotel is nice looking and the rooms are large and clean. We enjoyed our time in the lounge watching the big screen TV, playing at the chess and pool tables. The fitness room is very nice with a lot of space and equipment. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. All in all though I would try to locate a different hotel next time I stay in the area. Also, it did not seem like a good value for the cost.

Booked through our HIlton Honors account. The facility itself is gorgeous and the valet attendants top notch. Very accomodating and friendly. But byond that our stay was incredibly and sadly disappointing.

Booked as a hitlon honors stay (after spending thousands of dollars on other hilton stays throughout the year) with our points. We were made to feel as if our stay was a favor they were bestowing on us and not a reward for being loyal customers. Check in staff was very rude. They were busy with a convention for the diasbled which required a lot of their attention (special accomodations, etc). Our checkin person "Rebecca" was flustered, kept wiping her forhead and sighing. Never paid complete attention to our family checking in.

We were given a room over looking the roof. Literally the roof was at our window, if we opened it we could have walked out.

The AC kept shutting off.

The beds (two doubles) were very uncomfortable. Need to invest in new mattresess.

The hallways smelled like A) Old feet B) A Nail salon or
C) Moldy cheese.

The movie channel did not work.

The doors and walls are so thin, you can hear everyone as they walk by (not even talking, just walking) and I swear I heard the guy next door snoring!

There was a fire alarm at 2AM. None of the hotel staff gave us directions. We wandered through the hotel looking for the way out. Once outside, we were never accounted for (is room 204 here? Numebr in party, etc) and we were never given the okay to go in. We just kind of waited until the staff were all gone and then figured it was okay if they were back inside and at their posts.

After a long day of moving our son into Roanoke College, we came back to lounge by the pool and go in the hot tub. We called down to find out if towels are available at the pool and we were told yes they were. So we changed and went down. The pool and hot tub was closed for repairs! We then wandered up to the Pine Pub for some drinks instead, only to find it closed until dinner.

Ugh. Just a disasterous trip. I would be more inflamed had I shelled out 179 a night for this.

We will go back to staying at the Hampton Inn in Salem. It does not have the cache of an Historic Inn, but it is elegant and the pool is always open and people are always friendly. Same price range as this dump.
