“Perfect wedding weekend - I wouldn't have changed a thing.”
Reviewed 22 June 2010

We celebrated our daughter's wedding reception at The Hotel Roanoke. We had many out-of-town guests, so ended up needing a block of about 50 rooms, with most guests staying from Friday night to Sunday.

We had a beautiful suite for the weekend, which included a king bed room, a room with two queen beds, and a living/dining area with a queen sized Murphy bed. Each room had a private full bathroom as well. The rooms were beautiful, good sized, and very comfortable, with coffee makers in each room and a small refrigerator and microwave in the living area. Everything was immaculate.

From the valets to the front desk to the waitstaff at the Regency room and the reception, every employee that we encountered was friendly, helpful, and cheerful. Every request was answered with some variation of "Of course!". Although there was a lot going on in the hotel over the weekend (including at least two other wedding parties), we were made to feel like we were the top priority of the staff.

Although I didn't have high expectations for the buffet at the reception, I was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and the staff kept everything replenished promptly and unobtrusively. The ballroom was decorated beautifully and everything was arranged as the bride had requested, thanks to the attention of the banquet and event staff.

We were able to enjoy the Regency Room with its incredible buffet for breakfast every morning, Once again, the staff was friendly and accommodating.

Several of our guests enjoyed the fitness room and the pool, as well.

The enclosed walkway to downtown Roanoke was an added bonus. We were impressed by the restaurants, the galleries, and the farmers' market! Several of our guests told us that they planned to return because they had such a good impression of the city.

Any negatives? There is a daily parking charge, but for the convenience and the speed of the valets we found it worth the price. Also, there is a charge for internet service from the guest rooms, but wireless is free in the hotel lobby with a login code from the front desk.

The public spaces of the hotel are beautiful. With a simple request at the front desk, you can find yourself in possession of a warm chocolate chip cookie, seated in a rocking chair on the front porch.

Thank you to all at The Hotel Roanoke for making my daughter's wedding weekend so perfect!

Dear Virginia2, congratulations again to your family and thank you for the kind words. While we share all reviews with our staff, these are the types of reviews that we are most proud of and strive for. Weddings can be a demanding and stressful time and we hope that we were able to make this special moment, memorable and enjoyable. Thank you again!

I have family in the area, and have come here with my spouse and young children during the holidays, or by myself at other times. The staff is very friendly and the hotel is incredibly charming for such a big and reasonably priced place. During the holidays they have little scenes placed around the lobby and a huge tree. The restaurant is very nice.

I had an issue with a buzzing sound in my room this time, and when maintenance acknowledged I wan't insane but couldn't remedy it, they moved me no problem. The rooms are very modern and clean.

The hotel is a short walk to downtown, over the train tracks just outside. This hotel may now be part of the Doubletree chain, but it has retained its singular nature and is one of the institutions that personifies this town.

The family (2 adults, 2 teenagers) stayed here for one night while in town for a sporting competition. Check in was easy and you get warm chocolate chip cookies at that time. Nice! The hotel reminded my kids a little of the one in The Shining. It was older, but certainly not as large, but had that older feel to it. The hallways especially. The room we had was a corner room with windows on 2 sides and a nice view of the valley. Really had to turn down the A/C to cool it off though. The beds were very comforable, the bathroom could use a little updating and the TV was nothing to write home about. No free internet, which I still can't understand. It was convieniently located across the interstate from the Civic Center and had a bridge crossing the RR tracks to old downtown Roanoke. There were numerous restaurants to choose from for dinner. All in all, for the price, it was a bargain and I would stay there again. $7 a day to park it yourself, unlimited exits.

Stayed here for two nights at end of a 17 day road trip, to relax before our journey home to UK. Hotel was very comfortable, large room with great bathroom. All staff very friendly and helpful. Plenty to see nearby, with many restaurants, shops / market and museums within walking distance via covered walkway. Buffet breakfast was very good (and very good value). Would definitely return - recommended!

Much enjoyed our overnight stay at The Hotel Roanoke. I had stayed there some thirty-eight years prior when it was owned and operated by the Norfolk & Western RR. The hotel is now quite grand and opulent but still very comfortable. THe staff was most helpful and pleasant and the cuisine in the dining room was excellent.
Our only complaints were a too noisy cooling system in our room (2nd floor) and a bathtub where one could only regulate the water by standing up.

This is a beautifully restored grand old hotel built in 1862 which manages to uphold it's grace and old world charm. It is a hotel where the staff stop to speak with you and will shake your hand as you part company. There are rocking chairs on the verandah where one can spend a moment in quiet contemplation, or conversation. or perhaps sip on a mint julep from the adjacent bar.
It is easy to imagine the Grand Southern Style of days gone by in the large and sensitively furnished lobby. You simply must enjoy a dinner or breakfast in the gracious dining room.
Each room is different in shape, size and furnishing. The furnishings in our room, while modern, maintain the style and feel of this exquisite hotel. The beds were very comfortable with ample pillowing and quality linens.
The hotel is connected to downtown by a enclosed walkway. The grounds are beautiful and in keeping with the grandeur of the hotel and our boys enjoyed chasing the rabbits.
We have been traveling around the US East for 5 weeks and have previously spent the same period on the US West and this hotel has been our best hotelling experience.

This hotel is luxury at an affordable price. You simply must stay here.

This hotel surprised us. From teh outside it looks like a giant, classic, southern mansion. On the inside, the rooms were big and clean. They were dressed up for Christmas, and it was adorable.

The price was completely reasonable. We had a great overnight stay on our way to Asheville, NC, as the hotel is just off the highway.

I recommend this place because it was convenient and it was much better than expected!
