We too were lucky enough to have Mrs. LaBonne give us our tour of this quite lovely small 1632 church. She is very knowledgeable and articulate and is willing to answer any questions one might have. A visit here will give one a rich history lesson featuring the Anglican Church, the English and the early settlement days in Virginia. $5 per person. While in Smithfield, be sure to also visit the Isle of Wight Museum, Bacon's Castle, and enjoy a meal at the historic Smithfield Inn where George Washington is said to have stayed.

The historic ST Lukes is really a gem of the greater Smithfield / Isle of Wight area. The beautiful chapel with its Gothic architecture and the surrounding cemetery were truly beautiful.

This authentic gothic church has everything but real Goths. This Anglican church continues to inspire awe after 400 years. For comparison see historic Bruton Parish church in Colonial Williamsburg.

This is a must see for anyone interested in the beginnings of our country. Volunteer Gloria La Boone was the most amazing and knowledgable tour guide we have ever encountered! Kudos to her! She was also our guide at Chippokes Plantation and was just full of interesting information. She is a great asset to your area!

We were encouraged to visit this site by a gentleman at the visitors center in Smithfield. It was worth the stop. The Church is a fine piece of colonial architecture. The grounds are quiet, giving one time for reflection, as you stroll through the cemetery looking at the old stone and reading epitaphs. Many are quite worn as would be expected in a cemetery of its age. There is a beautiful bronze sculpture of St. Luke, doing a painting of Our Blessed Mother and the Infant Jesus. It is not often you see St Luke depicted as a painter. It is worth a stop just for the serenity.
