“Food and shopping!”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

The focus is on Smithfield products, primarily peanuts and ham. The sandwiches are very good, and there is a variety of local products, mostly, but not exclusively, food. It's right in the middle of Smithfield's downtown, with great little shops on all sides. It was recommended to me by a local, and they were certainly right!

“Wonderful soups and sandwichs”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

Had the opportunity to take both wives (former and present) out to lunch after a visit. Had heard of Taste of Smithfield and wanted to try it. Mainly had heard of their burgers (I don't normally prefer burgers in restaurants). What caught my eye was the pork tenderloin sandwich on a rosemary ciabatta. Since this is the home of Smithfield Foods (biggest pork packers in the world) and I could see a case of high end pork shanks for sale inside, this seemed a safe bet. Flavor was a 10 and texture was wonderful. No grease dripping down my arm. Broccoli salad side was the real treat. Nice change from coleslaw.

Outside cafe tables were a nice idea, but the flies spoiled it. After being seated, the wait staff lost track of us and I had to go back inside and track a manager down. No problems or complaints after that misstep. Was impressed to see the number of choices that carried an icon for healthy diets.

Will put this very popular and busy establishment on the top of my list for further exploration.

“Unique foods and gifts”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

This was a highly recommended restaurant. The food was great and not expensive. They also have a large gift shop inside for all the Smithfield ham souvenirs.

“An absolute must if visiting the area!”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

We dined here while visiting the quaint area of Smithfield Va. We had just left the Smithfield Museum and were hungry when we stopped by this restaurant/gift shop. This place was busy and rated very well on Tripadvisor so we gave it a try. We chose to eat outdoors as it was a beautiful day and there was plenty of available seating. Our orders were placed but before they arrived we changed our minds and we went inside as the flies were simply too annoying. We got our sandwiches and were both very pleased. We both had the pulled pork and Virginia ham sandwiches with ham salad on the side and were very pleased with our decisions. The restaurant portion of this place was very inviting and had a real small town feel to it. The service was great, the prices were right, and the place had an overall welcoming feel. The gift shop portion of the building, about half of the whole place, had all kinds of things for sale. There were all kind of peanuts, and brittle, salted hams, bacons, sandwich meats, and sweets for sale. There was plenty of nice stuff to take home, but bring plenty of money, a whole salted Virginia ham sells for $89.99.

“Great experience”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

Made it a day trip while we were in Williamsburg and enjoyed ourselves immensely! Nice ride on the ferry and a pleasant walk around town. Lunch was great-split pea soup was just like moms, dollop of sour cream and sliver of ham, and the Cuban pagan was tasted with 4meats,cheese and pickle. We were so full no room for the bread pudding. Did a little shopping afterward in the store and liked the discount given for eating there. All and all great experience, food, service and value!
