“Even a hurricane didn't dampen the hospitality of this hotel.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2012

We were in Smithfield just after Hurricane Sandy. We arrived a day late for our reservation. How delighted we were with our stayat Smithfield Station. The room (with a fireplace and a balcony) was delightful. The beds were just right (as baby bear said). The amenities were the best we had on our whole trip - loved the in room coffee. What a view over the marina from our balcony! We ate at the restaurant (flounder and the crab cakes were superb!!!), and the service was exceptional. I can't wait to go back there again and stay much longer...

Room Tip: Get the king room on the third floor.

Smithfield Station is an idyllic, waterfront setting within walking distance to lovely shops & restaurants. I stayed on a wintery, stormy night & loved hearing the sailboat halyards clank as my room was right on the dock with Christmas lit sailboats right outside - couldn't be cozier!
Dinner at Smithfield Station Restaurant was delicious, but there are many other excellent restaurants in town. I thoroughly enjoyed my nautical themed stay!

Room Tip: Every room looked great. I stayed at the dock, right next to the moored boats & loved it.

I say this with hesitation because I know many will agree, but if you have never been to Smithfield, you have to go. If you like little quaint towns where the people are extremely friendly and there is not much to do but relax, you will love Smithfield. On to the Smithfield Station, an outstanding place to stay. Not only is the staff friendly but the rooms are amazing as well. We stayed in a king room that had a little balcony overlooking the water, a fireplace, a one person Jacuzzi, huge bathroom in general and one of the best beds I have ever laid on. It was so relaxing to sit on a chair with the fireplace on and watch a little football with the balcony door open to still see the water. If you like a dark room while sleeping, this particular room was well lit from the lights on the dock throughout the night. But that didn’t bother us. Windsor Castle Park is right across the street and that is a wonderful 4 mile greenway course that had lots of people walking around.

We just returned from our trip to Smithfield Station and I want to say that it was fantastic! The rooms were elegant, comfortable and immaculate. Right across the road from the hotel was a +4 mile walking/running path which is well maintained and has beautiful views. The best thing about Smithfield Station was the staff. They really made us feel welcome during our stay. They told us about the path, gave us directions to restaurants, provide information about the town of Smithfield and were extremely friendly. Dining at the Smithfield Station Restaurant is a must. Again, their staff was terrific. The complimentary hot breakfast would please anyone and there were many healthy choices. The dinner there was also top notch. I had the broiled stuffed shrimp and my wife had the tournedos with crab meat. Both were excellent. We cannot wait until our return trip.

My husband and I have stayed at Smithfield Station several times. If you want to treat yourself to a wonderful, relaxing night, in a beautiful one of a kind space, book the Captain Sinclair Suite in THE LIGHTHOUSE. You won't regret spending the money. It is definitely worth it. We try to go at least once a year. The food in the restaurant is excellent. You definitely want to eat dinner there. They have room service! If you stay on a Saturday night, go to Sunday brunch. YUM!

Room Tip: Plan ahead. The LIGHTHOUSE suites, top and bottom, are usually booked on weekends. You really want...

Thanks Diane721! It is hard to beat a Saturday night stay in the lighthouse and a sumptuous breakfast Sunday morning. You know, it’s the only lighthouse on the east coast you can spend the night in too! If you think it is lovely now, wait until February. We have the rooms blocked for most of January as the Lighthouse will receive a total makeover! Not changing much, just freshening up a bit. Come back and try us out with the upgrades! Thanks again,

Groupon deal at this location was nice. Details: $259 for 2 night stay in a king-sized bed room, $40 dining credit, champagne bottle, and chocolate covered strawberries. Review:

The room: Pretty nice. Clean, bed was a bit soft but nice and large. Fake fireplace was a cute touch.
The Restaurant: Even with a $40 dining credit, this was worth skipping. Entrees are about $30 each, and terribly overpriced and fast food quality. Desserts are the same. If you go here, I recommend skipping food-- But the bar had decent mixed drinks.
Champagne and Chocolate: The champagne was pretty good. The strawberries ended up getting frozen solid before we arrived, and were disgusting once thawed.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay-- But would recommend skipping the restaurant all together or simply use it as a bar.

Room Tip: The lodge rooms have the biggest TV's, but cottages have jacuzzi's in them.

Good afternoon Scott N and thanks for the review. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay but am disappointed that you did not care for our restaurant. We take great pride in the food that we serve and feel, that while not a "foo foo" restaurant, we offer freshly prepared, simple dishes with the great ingredients and very good service. All of our entree's with the exception of one is less than thirty dollars and average about twenty six dollars. A reasonable price considering the rising cost of ingredients. Our rooms are plush and terrifically decorated. As we have said time and time again, we want nothing less than our guests to leave happy. With that in mind, we take your constructive criticism to heart and will take a look at the items that you have mentioned. We do hope to see you again.

Yours in Hospitality,

I, like several of the other reviewers, found Smithfield Station after seeing a Groupon deal. I checked TripAdvisor, and it looked good, so I purchased the coupon.

The room was spacious and lovely - the bed comfortable - the linens wonderful. Sitting on the balcony over looking the marina and spotting shore birds was perfectly relaxing. (Bring binoculars and your camera) The champagne and strawberries only added to the ambiance.

The next morning we hiked around the park across the street and wandered through a few shops. I believe one of the things that impressed me the most during the stay was the welcoming hospitality extended to us. I have the impression there are no mean people in Smithfield.

We found the the Internet connectivity was a bit flaky - not the strongest signal. If I needed to work on my computer, I might have been frustrated by not being able to go online when ever I wanted. But, the visit was for relaxing and learning about a place I had never been before, so it didn't matter all that much.

I plan to return to Smithfield station - it is a lovely town worth revisiting - as well as exploring the surrounding areas.

Room Tip: Going as far away from the restaurant end may cut the sound of the kitchen vents.

Good afternoon LJKNc. Thanks for the review and we are glad that you were able to take advantage of one of our Groupon offerings. You are right when you say there are no mean people in Smithfield. We are all angels ;). In all seriousness though, this is a very friendly town full of happy people. We love where we live and when we see others in town we want them to love it too. The internet has been a bit flaky around here as our ISP has been experiencing more problems than normal, but I believe we have that just about solved. Thank goodness, because it has been driving us batty as well. I do hope you choose to return and visit our wonderful town again soon. If there is anything we can do in the meantime, please just let us know and we will do our best to cater to your every need.

Thanks again,
