“Another relaxing and enjoyable visit to the "Station"”
Reviewed 14 March 2013

We returned for another visit to one of our favorite getaways,Smithfield Station, and it was top flight as usual. This time, we brought another couple with us, as he had just retired from his medical practice after 30+ years, and we wanted to introduce him to the proper manner to enjoy his retirement! We both had the King Jacuzzi suites with balconies overlooking the river and the marsh.Spent an hour one afternoon just sitting and enjoying the sun and views from our balcony. Room is very large as is the bathroom and shower, and all were spotless clean. We had lunch and dinner in the onsite restaurant, and breakfast there both mornings. Great service and good food, and it's so nice to sit by the window and chat with friends and enjoy the beautiful scenes outside--just the way to relax. We went for walks twice in the park across the street, and that's a real attraction for us in our visits. Both wives took the tour at historic St. Luke's Church, and came away impressed with the experience and knowledge. Also, had dinner 1 evening at Anna's Italian restaurant(separate review) and it was very good too. Shopped but didn't eat in "A Taste of Smithfield" and bought some chocolate peanuts for gifts. Will definitely eat there next visit. Stopped by Bacon's castle on the way out of town to see the house and grounds. Love the "Station", and plan to return again soon. It's simply a fine place to relax and unwind, with great people and beautiful, calming vistas to enjoy.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a balcony overlooking the river and the marsh.

My husband and I took advantage of a special to visit Smithfield. The room was large and very comfortable. The deck would have been lovely had it been warmer. We took our bikes and were planning on biking but the weather was just too cold. There is not much to do or see in Smithfield so although the property was nice we won't be returning. We ate a lovely lunch at the tea restaurant.

Good morning voageurfoodie! I am disappointed to hear that you didn't find much to do in Smithfield. I assure you it’s worth a second look. In cooperation with our visitor’s center, we have developed four itineraries (both one and two day) based on your different interests from ham, history, hospitality and heArt (art). As well as the top twelve things to do in town. I realize that weather can be discouraging, but a beautiful day here rivals even the most happening spots anywhere else. I hope you reconsider and we do appreciate the fine comments about our establishment.

Yours in Hospitality,
Randy Pack

The town of Smithfield, VA, has the lovely historic charm you'd expect in Williamsburg and other East Coast towns up and down the coast. Smithfield Station is the perfect base for exploration on foot or by car. The location is along the picturesque Pagan River. Accommodations are elegant and comfortable, the restaurant provided fine selections and great ambiance and service. Pat ran the bar with the touch of an expert. We'll be back.

Room Tip: All seemed to be good choices, facing the water.

Thanks for the great review Captain! You are right, there are more than things to visit in this area of historical significance than most can imagine. Plus, all the modern attractions people enjoy as well. Thanks for the recommendations and we look forward to welcoming you back.

Thanks harrhut! We appreciate your recommendations. Sometimes I forget how nice our facility is, but I have had the pleasure of staying here this week with my family as the floors are being redone in our home. Last night sitting on the balcony overlooking the water in one of our traditional waterfront rooms was simply perfect. Your thoughts on the great view were spot on. Thank you so much and we always hope to see you soon!

We used a Groupon to visit Smithfield Station and were so pleased with the accommodations and the quaint town with historic Victorian houses. We enjoyed excellent meals at Smithfield Station, the Smithfield Inn and the Bakery. We lucked into arriving during Restaurant week, so there were wonderful dinner prices and specials. There is a great walking park across the street called Windsor Castle. Our only negative was a noisy heater unit in the wall which disturbed our sleep somewhat but we did mention this on our departure. It was a delightful winter getaway and would be a great place to visit in the warmer months as well.

Room Tip: King with jacuzzi also had an electric fireplace. Very well appointed.

Good afternoon Renee23_13! Thanks so much for the review. Since your suggestion about the heaters in the rooms, we have found that they have sleep buttons that greatly reduce the noise emitted at night! Something already installed we didn't even know we had! Thanks so much as now we can tell all our guests about this feature. I am glad that you were able to take advantage of some of our special offers and we do hope to see you again. Please let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with!

Thanks again,

We spent 4 days at The Smithfield Station and couldn't be happier with the entire stay! Between the friendly staff, the spacious fireplace room, views, and delicious meals at the restaurant - we came away feeling relaxed and having created wonderful family memories.

We spent 4 full days in town (in January), but still found ourselves wishing we had more time there! There was a great park across from the hotel, where we enjoyed walking during the day and seeing a ton of wildlife, water views, and great historic buildings. The town has a ton of fun little shops, artwork, and a great museum for the kids. Meals were easy because the restaurant at the hotel was so accommodating to kids, and the food was delicious (we ate at least one meal there every day)!! We loved our trip (complete with a picturesque snow day) and can't wait to go back!

We are about to embark on our third visit to Smithfield Station. We have visited for the past three years in February (to coincide with my birthday, and for the past one, and this one, we have brought friends with us). I can say that we are very excited. This is always a highlight of our year, and one we hope to continue for many years to come. The rooms are beautiful, the views magnificent, the charm of the Station is not easily found anywhere. The staff are always so friendly and accommodating, and the food is out of this world. I woke up this morning to the lovely reminder of all we have to look forward to this coming weekend! I just wanted to add my comments to this site - if you are checking reviews to determine whether or not you should visit this beautiful hotel, check no further! We have never had anything but positive experiences and look forward to another one in a few days. From the quaint boardwalk shops to the walking trails in the park across the street, from the gorgeous balcony view to the fireplace in the restaurant, there is nothing about Smithfield Station that doesn't invite relaxation and enjoyment.
