My wife and I spent a couple of days at Sharp Rock Vineyards at the end of last September.
The setting is very peaceful. We stayed in the carriage house, which afforded us a great deal of privacy. We had a great time roaming around, watching folks crushing the grapes, playing with the dogs. It's one of those places where you feel really good after a few hours, and it stays with you as long as you're there.
For dinner, we went one night to Thornton River Grill in Sperryville. Now I could write an amazing review of that place. In a word, Wow. Kathy and Jim (the owners at Sharp Rock) can call in a reservation for you. The other night, we went to Culpepper (about 30 minutes away) and got some finger food from the grocery, then ate on the deck of the carriage house, which overlooks the creek below.
As for the wine: we think it's better than the average Virginia winery; we recommend the Viogner reserve and the Cabernet Franc, which are both Virginia specialties.
If you're a city person, remember that this is waaay out in the country, which means no cell phone reception, no TV, etc.
Overall, just a nice, comfortable place that's friendly and inviting. We'll be back.
