Hopkins Ordinary Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 6 Sperryville B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence

We wanted a special, quiet anniversary weekend and knew we'd be having a grand meal at the Inn at Little Washington at the exact hour of our wedding 40 years before. We found Hopkins Ordinary nearby and highly rated on Trip Advisor. My husband and I love B&Bs, and have stayed at many. For this occasion, we found exactly what we wanted at Hopkins Ordinary. The house is charming, well-restored and maintained with a delightful garden and easy access to all Sperryville has to offer. One cannot rave enough about innkeepers Kevin and Sherri, who participated in a couple of surprises family members arranged during our stay. The breakfasts were delicious, satisfying, and beautifully presented, featuring fresh and seasonal herbs, fruits and other local delicacies. Each morning, Sherri developed custom options for every guests whether they wanted to hike, visit wineries, dine or just hang out. My husband is an architect and gardener so he was thrilled with the attention Kevin gave his many questions and desire to tour the property. By the end of our 4-day Memorial Day weekend, our hosts felt like family. We've stayed at swankier B&Bs but none could have suited our need for a lovely serene place to celebrate all the blessings and tribulations forty years can bring a couple. When we go back again, it will feel like a homecoming. While in Sperryville, don't miss the tour of Wasmund's Copper Fox whiskey distillery (a pleasant short walk from the inn), dinner at Thorton River Grill across the street, or the great pulled pork sandwich at the cash-only High on the Hog BBQ down the street.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Rosemary Room which has semi-private porch seating outside and a homey country feel...

Recommended to us by a local vineyard, this is a very nice establishment; cozy and comfortable. Fireplace was an added bonus and that was in their least expensive room. Right across the street from very nice restaurant as well. The breakfast was gourmet quality and just the right amount. Also enjoyed their port wine in the afternoon. Really, a very nice place, close to many vineyards.

The only issue was the shower curtain needed to be replaced--its top was tearing and made taking a shower somewhat awkward, but otherwise, I would not hesitate to return or recommend Hopkins Ordinary--as another reviewer put it, anything but ordinary!

My husband and I stayed at Hopkins Ordinary for three nights. All splendid. Kevin and Sherri, the Innkeepers, truly know how to welcome guest. They are personable, caring, informative and wonderful cooks! The grounds and the home are beautiful in a stunning setting (mountain country). There are so many things to see and do - hiking, gallerys, farms, shopping...or just sit in a rocking chair on the porch sipping wine and reading a book.
This place truly offers it all!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Rosemary room- the only room on the first floor. It was a beautiful room, very priv...

Our experience at Hopkins Ordinary was wonderful from the very moment we arrived. Kevin and Sherri are warm and welcoming hosts, and wanted to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. While we stayed in the cottage with a couple of friends, Kevin and Sherri brought our delicious breakfasts each morning. At our request, they provided suggestions and directions for some very good local wineries, and even made a dinner reservation for us. The cottage provides all the comforts needed for a weekend away, and the entire property was comfortable and well kept. Our vacation to Sperryville was made all the better by staying at Hopkins Ordinary, and we would gladly stay there again.

Room Tip: If two couples are going together, the cottage is a great value.

A stay at the Hopkins Ordinary B & B is anything but ordinary.
First a word about the inn keepers, Sherri and Kevin.
They were everything you expect from inn keepers: attentive, knowledgeable, and best of all - warm people.
The B & B itself was warm, comfortable and inviting without being overdone as some places are.
Our room, Thyme, was also comfy and clean with thick towels, also a nice touch.
The breakfasts were ample and creative.
The cookies served in the afternoon were delicious and home made.
We are glad we stayed there and if we are in the area again we will certainly make a return visit.

Kevin and Sherri are excellent hosts. They are very helpful and knowledgeable of the area and other resources. My partner and I stayed in the Oregano room at Ordinary Hopkins and really enjoyed the amenities (breakfast, cookies, and complimentary beverages). We also enjoyed the company of the other guests and felt at home. We recommend staying at Ordinary Hopkins if you want a relaxing week-day or weekend trip.

Hopkins Ordinary is exactly what it advertises itself to be in terms of the accommodations and the charm of the area. We stayed in the lavender room which has both a nicely sized bathtub and a fireplace, which they provide logs for. I asked for champagne glasses and a wine bucket to be available upon arrival and not only was it exactly as I had hoped, but there were delicious cookies at check-in too. The restaurant across the way was delicious and breakfast the next morning was perfectly - both in terms of charm, taste, and timing. We couldn't have been happier!
