“Perfect Retreat”
Reviewed 7 May 2013

I loved my stay in the Carriage House at Fairhill Farm. The process of renting, checking in/out was easy and Alton was extremely prompt in responding. Everything was very clean, the grounds were well cared for and the site was beautiful. Every detail, down to flashlights in the nightstand and maps of the grounds, were well thought out and made the stay even more enjoyable. From the friendly felines to the sweet Corgi, the goose on the pond and the beautiful miniature horses frolicking in the fields, the animals all added to the fun. The purpose of my visit was a personal retreat and this place was perfect - relaxing, quiet, nice trails (even with my bum knee), and I enjoyed sitting and watching fish jump in the pond, and sitting up the "hill" some to see some great views. I would highly recommend it.

My husband booked Carrie's Cottage for us for my birthday. It was perfect! Beautiful rolling hills, mountain views, trails and the fishing pond made the setting picturesque! Alton, the host, was so nice and friendly. He offered us a tour of the Carriage house and didn't mind taking time from his busy farm life to get to know us a little bit. The Shetland ponies graze right outside the cottage and the dogs and cats are super sweet! We will definitely recommend it to friends and go back!

This was our 2nd trip to Fairhill Farm in less than 6 months and it was just as great the 2nd time around. My kids (ages 7 and 4) love Carrie's Cottage so much that we can't convince them to leave and explore the town/surrounding area. We plan to head back again in the Spring!

This was our third year spending a fall weekend at Fairhill Farm. We love coming out here because the scenery is beautiful, the cottage is so cozy, clean and well-equipped (including reliable wi-fi), the proximity to wineries and Monticello, and the friendly animals to name a few. Mr. Keel and his family have always been very kind, welcoming, and flexible with our check-ins and check-outs. Perfect place for a couple to retreat, relax, and drink wine! You'll love it too!

Room Tip: Carrie's Cottage has more space in the kitchen and living room, with separate bedrooms (master b...

We took our children (ages 7 and 4) to Fairhill Farm for 2 nights. It was one of the most relaxing vacations we've had together as a family. Carrie's Cottage was large enough for us to have space when we needed it but small enough for us to enjoy each others company. We loved the pool (beautiful view and surrounding gardens) and the kids loved being able to explore certain parts of the property without us supervising every second. The proprietor was warm and friendly when we crossed paths but most of the time it was just us. We can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Carrie's cottage is the most private while Carriage House is closest to the Manor House and the...

My husband and I recently were able to get away for a weekend sans children and The Carriage House at Fairhill Farms made our weekend truly amazing. The pictures don't do this place justice! You fall asleep to the sounds of crickets, open the beautiful roman shades to look over the mountains from bed in the morning. There is a grill, a full kitchen and cozy sitting area. Alton, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. He clearly loves providing this sanctuary to people.

In addition to the great accommodations, we enjoyed hiking on his private property, watching the sunset while laying on a hammock by his personal lake or driving the winding, quiet roads of the area. We will absolutely be visiting again... in fact we wish we could go next weekend too! Highly recommended!

We stayed at Carrie's Cottage for 3 nights with another couple and found it enchanting! This was true even on the day when it rained heavily for a while. The area of Virginia where the farm is located is simply beautiful.

We easily toured the historic presidential houses that are less than an hour away - Monticello, Ash Lawn, Montpelier and Woodrow Wilson's home - in three days. We loved the gorgeous settings, beautiful gardens and amazing vistas with the Blue Mountains and Shenandoah National Park in the distance.

The cottage is simply, but fully and tastefully furnished. It is a very soothing and relaxing place.Guests are left on their own to enjoy the farm. Yet after we left, we were notified that some batteries and a charger were left behind. Since I needed these for my camera, it was greatly appreciated when these were forwarded to me (at no charge) in time for use on the rest of my trip. Not all establishments would take such care.

Since we didn't get to explore the farm much, we hope to come back in the future to do some hiking and biking. I would recommend highly this place to families and couples who like quiet, peaceful locations and the outdoors.
