Stayed here in Oct 2013 and it was a superb stay and dining experience. Very quaint inn with a wonderful, personable owner and chef. Allan did an excellent job of pairing food and wine for a delicious and very sociable evening with several other couples. Allan's wine pairings were spot on and all for less than $15.00 per bottle. Well worth the price for dinner, even though they were small plates(11 courses) by the end of dinner we were well fed. We will certainly return to sample other dishes on the menu and would highly recommend a visit. Very convenient to the Shenandoah Valley and Skyland Dr.

This inn is located in a small, out of the way town that doesn't even appear on a lot of maps. But it's still centrally located to central Virginia attractions--between the Fredericksburg battlefields (when the government is open!) to the East, Charlottesville and Monticello 30-45 minutes to the South, and wineries all around. We spent two nights here visiting the last two of those attractions. With a Living Social coupon for one night and the gourmet dinner this is quite affordable for a romantic get away.

This is also a full menu restaurant, and you don't have to stay here to partake but we came for the 10-course gourmet dinner paired with wines that came with our one-night Living Social coupon. It was first rate, beginning with an Amuse Bouche, corn fritters, and then a southern egg roll. This was followed by two salads, the second of which was an outstanding roasted cor onion & tomato salad with mozzarella. You move then from vegetable ravioli to blackened salmon, lemon chicken with capers to Shrimp & Stone Ground Grits (super delicious), a small pork dish to a pumpkin bread pudding. Alan Pyles, the proprietor, is also the gourmet chef and, with 10 years' experience at it, his gourmet dinner is wonderful. He spoke to us about the food and also why he paired the wines with each dish. We waddled up the stairs to bed after 2 1/2 hours--thank heavens we weren't driving anywhere.

The breakfast choices for the two days were omelettes (cheese and spinach one day), French toast, and waffle with fruit. Tasty.

The Inn is quaint and beautiful. Do the Chef's Tasting dinner if you can. Outstandinf food and wine pairings and very affordable. Great to share the trip with friends if you're all "foodies".

A friend and I were here last week. We had bought a package that included a room and 10 course wine tasting menu.

We arrived an hour before check in. But since our room was ready, they allowed it. Within moments, a goody tray with snacks and sparkling wine arrived. The room was tastefully furnished, and very pretty.

Now for the 10 course menu. Each course was perfectly executed and very accessible. The chef, who also owns the inn along with his wife, came out to tell us what we would be eating, and at times informed us of his process of cooking. I cannot adequately describe the care in which the food was prepared. It was unfussy without being inelegant. The wine pairings were perfect too.

The next day, we were provided breakfast. Get the French Toast, if it's offered.

All I can say is that we are planning to return again.
