If you are just looking for the average stay at a chain hotel, at the average chain hotel rate, with an average experience, this place is about it. I like to point out good things, as well as negatives, so this kind of review is difficult. In one way, it isn't a bad place to stay. Right off the highway, so access is easy. The overal condition of the hotel isn't bad but has nothing outstanding to commend it either. It does suffer slightly from minor upkeep issues. For instance, the pool area is adequate but just barely, and is located on the parking lot, not a grassy area. The pool water appeared very clean but the area wasn't in high useage, so it seems tired. On the positive side, they had something I have never seen at a hotel, which was an electric lift to accommodate handicapped people. That is truly unique. On the negative side, the paint on the depth markers was faded and had partially worn off over the years of useage. It is this kind of dicotomy that made writing this review difficult. However, my wife, who is far less fussier than I am, didn't have a positive impression of the place. She felt the facility was not well maintained and not as clean as it could be. It is far cleaner than many hotels, but not as impressvie as other hotels in its price range. The isn't old, tired, or poorly maintained. It just lacks the spit and polish that others in its price range routinely offer. I have stayed at Sleep Inns, a sister business in Qaulity Inn chain, that were far better. The room was neat enough but the air conditioner, a under window type unit, struggled to cool the room. GIven that this was mid September in the Blue RIdge, I wonder how these units fare in the height of the summer. Even when set to 70 and left to run for hours, the room was barely cool. The beds were fine, and possibly too firm, however, we slept OK. The breakfast area is small, and the hot food is marginal. The rest is the typical fare found in most hotels. The staff is friendly. The real issue is that for the money, do you want an average experience? The competition offers a far better experience for the same money. Finally, we do have an exceptionally small dog and they are
a pet friendly facility. We did have to pay an extra $10, which was fine, and the room was by
the door at the end of the hall, leading to the pet area, so that was convenient. However, the room did have a moderately heavy pet odor. OK, its a pet room, but we have stayed at other units (e.g. Sleep Inn) that was pet friendly, didn't charge extra and the room didn't smell of pet. What did we pay an extra $10 for? Again, average.

Room Tip: This unit is right off the interstate but it is heavily wooded between the unit and highway. This helps reduce throughway noise, but if you are a really light sleeper, there is a minor amount of noise from the interstate. However, I do not believe it is enough to keep you awake, even if a light sleeper.

It is never easy to get less-than-complimentary feedback on a guest's experience at our hotel. However, all feedback is welcomed as it can be used to better train our team and to enable us to achieve a higher level of guest satisfaction. Our goal is to provide a product and service that goes above and beyond guest expectations so your comments that we were only “average” was very difficult to hear. We are happy to hear that our staff was friendly, that we were “far cleaner than many other hotels” and pleased to have been able to accommodate your dog as a “pet friendly” hotel. The pool lift is a new addition this year and we are very pleased to offer that amenity to our guests. The hotel maintains annual schedules for completing updates to the hotel. The pool lift was a very important capital expenditure for this year and other upgrades completed in our hotel during the last several months include drapes, carpeting, bedding, seating and flat screen TV’s, among others. We will continue to take guest comments such as yours into consideration as we annually review ways to enhance our property.

We do hope that you will visit again so that we are able to provide an experience that is more typical of our product and service standards.

We stayed here on August 24th and 31st. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is older but kept up. Towels and linens were new. It is right off the highway and has a nice continental breakfast with biscuits and gravy as well as waffles and all the typical cold items. The outdoor pool has a handicap lift to get in and out of the pool. Didn't see the handicapped accessible rooms but the regular rooms had very small bathrooms. Watch your bill as they are adding a surcharge of $1.50 for a safe in every room. I had them remove the charge since the rate was more then I was quoted.

The staff is very friendly and helpful... but we were visited by a little mouse while we were in our room. The receptionist quickly moved us to a different room, and we used towels to block the spaces under the doors. They have popcorn available in the lobby, and there were bits of popcorn on the floor, which is probably what the little mouse was after. The breakfast was standard, but one of the waffle irons was out of order, so that backed things up a bit. The price was good, and it's close to the wonderful Virginia Heritage Museum.

Room Tip: Don't get the ground floor, where the mouse and popcorn are.

As a military member, I was pleased to find a military rate for my stay, and even more pleased when I was asked for my military ID at check in. Very few hotels verify military ID when I travel and use the military/government rate, so THANK YOU for that. All of the front desk staff (Ellie, Alex and the gentleman on the overnight shift) were extremely helpful and went above the call of duty for me. The building was older, but well maintained. My room was clean, and even though I was immediately adjacent to the elevator, the room was quiet. Free WIFI was a nice touch and worked well on my IPAD. Plenty of clean towels, and the microwave, fridge and coffee maker were welcome additions. Nice newer flat screen TV with a good selection channels. I have no complaints about this hotel and will certainly return for another stay soon.

Sheets were so worn they were see-through in places. Towels in bathroom were so frayed you wouldn't use them as a rag. Each visit to the front desk led to a long wait for the agent to actually appear. Staff was friendly when they finally showed up. The owner of the hotel should spend a little money on repairing and maintaining the hotel rooms. Some rooms facing the parking lot don't have curtains that close all the way which caused my friend to hang a bedspread over his window so he could sleep. The hotel is also on the bed bug registry and the first "tip" I saw on Foursquare when I checked in was of someone's bed bug bites from staying at the hotel. Thankfully, I didn't see any creepy crawlies while I was there, but it definitely made me nervous.

Room Tip: If your room faces the parking lot, be sure the curtains close!

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay. We would like to apologize that your guest room did not meet your expectations. We have high standards for cleanliness and preventative maintenance of our guest rooms. Unfortunately, we seem to have really missed the mark with your stay with us. We have shared your feedback with our housekeeping and maintenance staff. Our staff and management team take all guest feedback very seriously and we will be reviewing our room inspection procedures to ensure that future guests do not encounter these types of concerns. We have been pleased with recently completed upgrades to our hotel including carpeting and bedding, etc., and will continue to take guest comments such as yours into consideration as we annually review ways to enhance our property.
As prominently reported through the media this year, bed bugs have unfortunately become a very wide-spread issue in the United States. Since bedbugs tend to be "hitchhikers" they end up in hotels typically because they have traveled in with a guest - either in their clothing and/or suitcases. Because of this issue, we have a professional pest extermination company that comes to the hotel on a regular basis and to perform inspections and preventative treatment.
We sincerely hope that you will visit us again in the future so you can experience the service level that we strive for on a daily basis.
