Even though Woodrow Wilson did not spend much time in Staunton, you wouldn't know it. The museum is proud of its favorite son. The museum has artifacts from the president and the house tour highlights what the house would have been like in the 1850s when Wilson was born. The grounds are lovely, especially in early spring. Be sure you have enough time to see everything.

My husband and I recently passed through Va. while journeying down south and made the fortuitous choice of staying at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel in downtown Staunton for one night. Little did we know of the many hidden treasures in this lovely little town. Chief among them, in our opinion, was the unexpected surprise of finding Woodrow Wilson's Presidential Library and Museum within easy walking distance to the hotel. Ample parking is available adjacent to the Manse for those who are driving. We were both thrilled to discover that the library and museum would be open bright and early the next morning before we left Staunton. Wilson's birthplace, the Manse, was particularly interesting and a historic, charming old home. Our tour guide was very informative and brought that particular time and place in history alive with her discussion. The Manse's grounds were also beautiful with many boxwood plants and flowers in the terraced garden. The museum was fascinating and contained many of Wilson's documents and memorabilia, including his perfectly restored Pierce- Arrow limousine. We were particularly moved by the WW I bunker and trenches in the museum's lower level which aptly displayed the horrors of war. We were so impressed by our experience, that we would definitely return to the Library again when we're next in Staunton. Don't Miss!!

My wife and I had never had the opportunity to visit a presidential library before. This one was a good choice. The tour was good and informative. It told me about Woodrow Wilson the person as well as Woodrow Wilson the President. The tour begins in the gift shop where you also purchase your pass. A short film is shown there first. You then go to the museum (in a separate building) for a self guided tour which includes a life-size display of a WWI trench and Wilson's black Pierce-Arrow limousine. Also included is an excellent guided tour of the Woodrow Wilson Birthplace. The museum is in a residential area and parking is in the rear.

The museum and the tour of the manse (residence of the presbyterian minister) was educational. I particularly found the WW I bunker with a working periscope and sound affects and weapons very well-executed. The gruesome affects of war are demonstrated by a model of a soldier who had surgery for grievous wounds. We should all work for peace as war is dreadful. Tour guide of the manse was excellent.
