We had a two night stay at this establishment because the price seemed right and there were very few other options available. People say that you get what you pay for, but not in this case. Even though it was cheap, we overpaid. The whole establishment is grossly run down and needs immediate attention. When we checked in there was a hatch of caterpillars every where. It was impossible to walk to the rooms without stepping all over them. Squish....But that is a seasonal thing and can be overlooked. However, in our room the AC blew wet mildew-rich air out all night. Unfortunately it was hot so we really could not turn it off. The peephole on the door was missing and had a piece of duct tape covering the opening from the inside. The safety chain on the door was broken so there we were missing that element of security. The stop used to keep the outside door from slamming into the wall when it was opened was missing. So unless we were really careful, the door would bang heavily into the wall. The breakfast eating area consisted of a minimum number of tables for sitting to eat. But that was OK because there wasn't really that much being offered that was worth eating. Consider eating breakfast across the street at Mrs. Rowes. The shower leaked so that it was impossible to bath without getting water all over the floor. If we got a price of $50 a night we might consider staying there again, but that price is highly unlikely. Plan ahead and look around for a better location in Staunton. You will not be sorry, but you will be if you go to the Red Roof Inn.

Passing through on business, so looked up on TripAdvisor. Motel had good reviews so made reservations based on reviews. Not disappointed. Rooms were newly renovated, clean, comfortable and reasonable. Would definitely stay there again.

The rooms were new and clean - all updated, new carpet, new bathrooms & vanities with flat screen TVs, small fridge & small microwave, new linens. The beds are full size - not queen so they are small - as are the rooms. So once you get into your room and close the door & drapes it's all fine.

But - from the outside the place is misleading. We pulled into the parking lot about 7:00 on a Saturday night - It's very 1960's motel style. But that was OK - what was a little disconcerting were the 6+ guys hanging out from the upstairs "balcony" right near our room who stopped talking to watch us get out of our car. Like most motels with a 2nd floor the rooms are all accessed by an outdoor walkway. Some of the guys were by their cars others were on the balcony. They were in their late 20's - early 30's, not clean shaven, long hair, kind of unkempt, all wearing black - a little imtimidating. Now my husband is a big guy, and a police office - so he's not easily intimidated. So we didn't get our suitcases out of the car right away. We urged our teenage daughter & son inside and waited for it to quiet down to get our stuff from the car. Ends up they were roadies for some local band - they were probably harmless but it was not a welcoming sight for a family. Then to add to the out-of-place feeling a group of guys on motorcycles showed up. We have a lot of friends with bikes, but not many of them with the gear these guys were wearing.

I wondered why the staff put a family on the same side of the motel as the bikers and roadies since there was another side?

Overall the room was nice - very pleasant once we got back from dinner and tucked in for the night. The bed were VERY small and hard so I wouldn't stay there more than one night assuming you're on the road and just need a place to sleep. Because the room door is right on the parking lot you can't help but hear activitiy in the parking lot and something woke me at 4:30 am - and I couldn't fall back asleep. I think the bad night of sleep made the rest of our trip (7+ hours) seem much longer than it was. ;o)

It IS a good value for the money, and had the other guest who were there not have been in the parking lot when we arrived at the same time we did we'd never have thought twice about it - but being a cop's family we always see things through a different lens. We would stay there again knowing what we now know- but we also might spend $25 more a night and stay down the road with inside hallways and feel a little more secure.

My husband and I were traveling through VA and needed a clean place that would accept pets so we stopped here and asked if they would take my pet. Girl at desk was very helpful and said she had a "pet room" in the back. We were pleasantly surprised to find a clean engineered hardwood floor. It was great as we had dog bowl and water dish. Room had a large flat screen, nice vanity and bath, micro, fridge, and king bed. It was a deluxe room but was about $86 with tax. Not bad. Also had a nice continental breakfast, indoor heated pool, and hot tub. When we checked out the desk clerk (probably the owner) asked how everything was. Thats a rareity. I told him we were more than satisfied. Also saw people with bbqs outside rooms and the guy next to his was using his so apparently they are OK with it. It didn't bother me and I thought it was a great idea for people staying a few days.

Room Tip: If you have a pet the rooms in the back are great as there is a grassy area to walk them. Also back...

Stayed overnight here on my way to NC. Very easy to find, right off I-81. The room was clean, nicely furnished, nothing fancy and had no funky smells. The bathroom had a tub with the sink and mirror outside the actual bathroom. Fridge and microwave in the room. The hotel was pretty crowded and there were a few dogs, but I had no trouble sleeping. I had requested to be away from the dogs and they accommodated me. The bed and pillows were comfortable, no achy back in the morning. The breakfast was very standard for this chain. Some hot items, frozen waffles, toast, fruit and good coffee. They have two cereals, raisin bran and cornflakes, nothing sweet.
There are some good restaurants in the area and a gas station right as you turn up the road to the hotel.
I found this to be a good deal for the money. This is going to be my stopover place on my way to NC every time.

I checked Trip Advisor before making this reservation and this seemed like the best balance between price and rating for my one night stay in the area. Turned out to be very nice considering it looks like a typical roadside motel. The rooms appear to have been remodeled recently. The towels were on the small side but clean, soft and there were plenty. The sheets were definitely clean - smelled a little like bleach and were not very soft but the clean makes that tolerable. The room had a small refrigerator and microwave as well as coffee. The staff was very friendly. The free breakfast was not impressive but about what I expected from a motel.

Room Tip: The highway/main parking lot side was a little noisy but not overly so.

Wanted to see the sights in and around Staunton, so needed an affordable and clean place to stay for four nights. Red Roof fit the bill. It was close to downtown, local attractions and major roadways. The hotel, while older, was clean and in good shape. Staff was very friendly and accommodating and the pool was nice. Continental breakfast was ok - had lots of carbs which are not my thing, but offered enough choices, particularly if with a family and young children. Overall the place was clean, friendly and a good value for the price. We would stay there again.
