First off, I will rave over the beautiful art -- the showroom is full of glass in all shapes and colors, and the sun coming through the large windows only makes it more amazing. There is a wide range of price points, ranging from $10 to $25 on up. They also sell designs by area jewelers, as well as Pandora items, and handmade accessories.

While I would recommend keeping an eye and hand on children while visiting this gallery, there is a fabulous opportunity to go into the studio and watch the glassblowers make the very art that is sold in the store. It is fascinating and the artists are great to explain what they are doing and to answer any questions you (or your children) might have. We scheduled ahead for our daughter to blow some ornaments to give as Christmas gifts. Ages 5+ are allowed to participate, but must have closed shoes. We returned the next day to pick up her ornaments, but they would have shipped to us. It costs more than buying pre-made ornaments but was a great experience for our child, and she can tell the grandparents she did it herself.

Lastly, I cannot say enough about the folks who work here. Everyone we have dealt with in the three times we have visited has been friendly, helpful, and pleasant -- not snooty, nor do they rush you. Our items have always been wrapped nicely and traveled well. I also like that they take AmEx!

The only possible negative I can think of to comment on would be the entrance to the store. It is in a neat old building, but with a couple small steps up to the door, and then step up again once you get inside. Not exactly wheelchair or walker-friendly. They may indeed have a more accessible entrance for those who need it but I would recommend contacting them before you make the trip, just in case.

If you enjoy art glass, or are looking for a unique gift item, or just have a bit of time to relax and wander around, Sunspots is a great place to go!

Dear Farm Field Trips,
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. We really appreciate that you took the time to write such a nice review. As a small business, good reviews are very important to us.

We just wanted to add that Sunspots is handicapped accessible. There is another entrance off of our back parking lot with a ramp. We have accessible bathrooms, and our glass studio is also wheelchair friendly. Our handicapped parking spaces are located in that back parking area.

Once again, we are so glad you enjoyed your visit with us. Please do come back and see us!

Staunton is a wonderful town. We were looking for various places to visit and saw Sunspots listed. It's mostly a store selling their wares but you can go in the back where they have bleachers set up. Dan was working while we were there and he was kind enough to explain what he was doing and why. He answered questions while he was working and created a number of ornaments for a mail order catalog while we watched. The items in the store are expensive but lovely to look at. Once you leave you are across the street from Ox-Eye Wine Tasting Room and across the parking lot from some nice restaurants.

We were able to attend one of the glass demonstrations in the back and found it to be very interesting and informative. It was interesting how they can make such beautiful items out of recycled glass bottles. The showroom was had very many lovely pieces and the staff were all very pleasant. If I remember correctly there were a couple steps to enter as this is in an old historic building.

This is worth a walk through, even if you are not in the market for blown glass pieces. They have everything from jewelry to decorative pieces and the prices are more reasonable than you will find in larger cities, and they show works by MANY artists. The real draw is the demonstrations, but unfortunately those end each day at about 4 and we missed them. The visitor's center recommended the demos highly, as does a Virginia guidebook. The shop is open until 6 pm.

My wife was intrigued by the glass-blowing process and enjoyed the demonstration. We purchased several items and enjoyed our visit.
