Located in an old flour mill, the place is large and dark, the food was excellent and came in huge portions. My husband and I could easily have split an entre' and had plenty for both of us. Service was a little slow, but it is full of regulars and visitors and we were there on a Friday night before seeing MacBeth at the American Shakespeare Company theater which is only about 3 blocks away. Next time, we will be better prepared for leftovers.
I had the ribs and husband had prime rib - both were very well prepared - ribs fell off the bones and the prime rib was huge!!

Referred by a local we were treated royally by Terry and Ron who run a tight and busy ship. Our server Bridget was new to the business but extremely conscientious and will be a great asset to this restaurant. The fried alligator was perfect, oysters Rockefeller rich, fresh baked in house bread a great surprise. On to two hefty entrees of baby backs and roast duck with tortellini. Poor Bridget had to wrap half of those up. Good wine and beer selection, prices were equivalent with quality. We will return!

Found this restaurant's menu ambitious; food just didn't deliver. The ambiance was nice, and the staff was friendly. Not at the top for a return trip.

We enjoyed our meals which included steak, ribs, and chicken. The garlic mashed potatoes were served separate in a little bowl and they were almost cold...apparently they had been sitting out for a while.

Our party arrived separately, with one person arriving first and being seated in a booth. When the rest of us arrived, we told the hostess we were meeting someone and she said she had no idea what we were talking about and we could walk around the restaurant and look for them! Very poor first impression. She made no effort to help or remember who was sitting in a large booth by themselves. Plus, it is disruptive to other customers to have several people wandering past them when they are eating their dinner. It isn't a large restaurant, so it wasn't all that hard to find our party, but it was still very much lacking on the part of the hostess.

Another area lacking was our wine. We ordered a bottle of wine and waited at least 15 minutes for it to arrive. The waitress stated the bar was backed up and then said the wine was being chilled. Why wasn't the restaurant prepared and why wasn't the wine chilled in advance of the dinner hour? It wasn't as if we ordered some exclusive wine that they perhaps don't serve very often....it was lack of planning on the restaurants fault. We actually received our appetizer before we got our wine. When it did arrive, it was still lukewarm and we actually asked for ice which we never do!!!

The entrees average $20 but don't include a salad. That costs $3.50 extra. For this type of restaurant, I think the salad should be included. If you order the filet mignon and salad, that will run approximately $30 and that seems high for the area, atmosphere, and quality of food.

There was a small two seat table in a corner alcove that was very near to us. The waitress that was serving that table was different that our waitress. They were constantly maneuvering in the tight pass thru and it was disruptive. Our server was giving us our food, and then the other waitress needed to get to her table, so our waitress is picking up the large serving tray with our food and folding up the metal stand, etc. Either get rid of the little table, or have the same server wait on both tables so there is some type of coordination of service!!

The waitress was very nice and efficient. I did feel we were a little rushed, like they wanted our table. We were asked if we wanted dessert and declined. It was only after we declined, that the server told us they had free ice cream.

I would probably dine there again but there are several restaurants in the Staunton area that I would consider going to! Based on our experience, this is not a "must do again"!!!

We ate here about 3 years ago with a large group. We enjoyed it then so a return trip to Staunton gave us the chance for dinner again on 4th of July. The staff was friendly and kept our drinks and needs filled. The only complaint would be the cost. I thought the entrees were a bit pricey. Not extraordinarily so but a few dollars per plate. A guest with us ordered a drink, Chivas on the Rocks...Ouch, $14.....That is about 4 more than any other place we have visited...and that's a lot of places. Overall I would go back, what we had was good and we didn't have the BBQ which is what they are famous for making. We had the Mahi and the Swordfish along with an Oyster po boy (their version). The portions were reasonable but I would stop short of saying they were huge like some of the other reviews.
