“Clean Friendly Choice with Nice Pool”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2011

I have stayed here several times on my way to the east coast and have always had a good experience. This time the newly updated pool was open and it adds a nice bonus to an already pleasant stay. The rooms are spacious and clean and, although the beds are more accurately described as full, they are comfortable. Being a somewhat older hotel, a few cosmetic touch ups would be a plus. I have stayed in rooms in the front and back of this property and have not been overtly effected by the train noise. The breakfast is above average. William at the front desk is professional and friendly as was all the staff I encountered. This will remain my choice when passing through Staunton.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the tracks if you have a concern. They are experienced in dealing with tha...

Stopped here on our way to Florida. The room was very clean with a nice fridge and microwave. Front desk staff was very helpful. They advertise a pretty extensive complimentary breakfast. We had to leave before it started but the gentleman at the front desk loaded us up with fruit, cereal, milk, coffee and a sausage breakfast sandwich for the road. There's a Cracker Barrel and Texas Steakhouse wiithin walking distance. Only downside was that the internet was not working, and according to the front desk, it sounded like a pretty frequent occurence. We had a coupon from one of the books you find at the welcome centers along the interstate so the total cost was only $60.

Clean and very friendly. Ask for a room on the side away from the railway tracks. Friends who stayed on the side of the tracks were woken three times by loud trains.

We stayed two nights--October 20 and 21 for our Skyline Drive fall foliage getaway. The room was very clean and the staff was exceptional, and even the continental breakfast was above average. However, as others stated, that train is a p-a-i-n. Now, they DO have you sign a paper acknowledging it, but wow....I was not in store for all that. I'm a sensitive sleeper as it is, and that ol' train was something else. It shook our room and made a racket three times the first night and two times the second night. If you hate noise like I do, then it might be wise to pony up the extra coin and get yourself a room that's not near the train tracks.

Other than the train, the stay was just fine. I'm still having nightmares about that train though. OHHH boy,, oh noooo...here it comes again!! *rattle, roar, shake*

Overall nice stay. The service was very good. We chose the hotel because all the inns in town were fully booked and the only rooms available here were on the railroad side. Beware - they specify that for a reason. The trains are random, run several times a night and are LOUD! If you can't get a room on the non-railroad side, unless you're a sound sleeper, I strongly recommend earplugs! Lots of breakfast options, but I'm a healthy eater and most of it (like nearly all hotels with bkfst incl) were heavily processed. They at least offered fresh fruit.

Room Tip: Ask for the non-railroad side and a room on the 3rd or 4th floor.

A good "passing through" hotel. Clean, friendly staff, OK breakfast, small indoor pool. Price is right. If I were staying in Staunton to spend time in the area, I would probably try to stay closer to downtown, but entering, leaving, or just passing through on I-81, I doubt there is a better value.

Clean environment, friendly staff. Be aware RR runs down one side of the hotel. You might want to ask if you don't want to hear the trains in the early am to stay on the opposite side. Lots of options for breakfast, but it is served in avery small area with limited seating.
