Karen and Denny are courteous and efficient hosts. The property is well kept and clean. The service was excellent, Denny even provided my wife hot water and tea bags for an evening cup. The breakfast was a delight; my wife and I like the strata so much we had it both mornings! The Frederick House's location is wonderful, Staunton is great little town to walk and everything we wanted was located within 3 1/2 blocks. I reccommend this location to anyone who is looking for a comfortable place with a great location and excellent hosts.

Staunton Virginia, Frederick House Bed and Breakfast - Wonderful hosts, accommodations, and location!! Great Experience!! We hope to return often.
Thanksgiving Weekend, Nov, 2007

My husband and I were invited to attend a multifamily reunion and get together this past Thanksgiving at the Frederick House, a Bed and Breakfast in Staunton Virginia. We had a wonderful time. There are five homes that are part of the Frederick House B and B and they are nestled right in the center of town with everything within walking distance. Mary Baldwin College is just across the street.. My husband and I stayed in one of the homes with other couples. Our daughter and her family stayed in a home with other families with small children. This home was the central gathering place for our "reunion" events. It had two large rooms on the ground floor divided by a central hall. One room was for our buffets, and the other room, filled with chairs, tables, and sofas, was perfect for being together - large screen television for the football fans and plenty of space for the little ones to be active. The kitchen in the back of the home held all of our beverages and snacks. The parents could take the little ones up for a nap and come back and enjoy the party.

Our hosts, the owners of the Frederick House, Denny and Karen Eister, were so thoughtful and gracious. They served delicious breakfasts each morning for all of their guests in still another home. They were very knowledgeable about the area and full of helpful information. They directed us to several great restrauants and area activities.

Our rooms were large with private baths, clean, warm, inviting, and cheerfully decorated. Good food, comfortable beds and wonderful hosts! What was not to like!! We hope to return soon.

My husband and I have just spent a wonderful few days at the Frederick House in Staunton VA. I first discovered this delightful Inn whilst visiting Staunton for my son's wedding in 2005. I am happy to advise that the Inn is still as good as I had remembered from 2005. Much work has gone into making the Inn a clean and restful place to stay. Both Karen and Denny (the Inn keepers) go out of their way to help and also to advise what are good things to do and also interesting places to visit in and around Staunton. Nothing was to much trouble (even making us scrambled eggs for breakfast!) . We shall most certainly be returning when we are next in the USA and visiting Virginia. I can recommend the Frederick House as a great place to stay for anyone visiting Staunton VA. By the way - Staunton itself is also a wonderful 'find' with a good theatre and two cinemas plus lots of good restaurants and historical places to visit. We stayed at the Frederick House over Thanksgiving last year and were absolutely thrilled with our experience. We had a large group - 20+ adults and children - and Denny and Karen (the innkeepers) were able to accommodate all of us comfortably and conveniently.

Our room was spacious and comfortable and included a separate sitting area complete with very comfy rocking chairs and a yummy welcome basket filled with fruits and goodies from local vendors. The room was very clean with up-to-date fixtures in a beautiful historic Virginia building.

Denny & Karen were very knowledgeable about local attractions and had wonderful restaurant recommendations. The B&B was central to Main Street in Staunton and the restaurants and the shopping area were easily within walking distance. Breakfast at the Frederick House was delicious, service was excellent, and free WiFi was available.

And to let you know the type of people Denny & Karen are… An Italian family arrived into Staunton late and hungry on Thanksgiving night, and did not realize that the restaurants in the area would be closed. Denny & Karen put together warm plates of Thankgiving dinner from their personal family meal to share with the guest family. What caring hosts!

In summary, if you need a place to stay in the Shenandoah Valley, make it the Frederick House.

We enjoyed the hospitality of Frederick House while gathering with family and friends for the Thanksgiving holiday. Our group of 20 people ranged in ages from 6 months to 60+ years. The younger families occupied the rooms in the house with the large common areas. The common areas were used for the children to play and for all of us to gather after dinner to play games and enjoy good conversation. When bedtime arrived for the children we tucked them into their beds on the floor above us. One of us easily checked on them as we snacked and talked.

The “more mature” families were spread throughout the other houses. My husband and I enjoyed a large two-room suite that was decorated using traditional historic furniture and styling, yet contained every modern convenience. The sitting room provided ample comfortable upholstered seating and had a TV armoire. The focus of the bedroom was a gorgeous king-sized canopied bed along with an antique bureau, table and chairs and another TV armoire. The TVs came in handy when we had our two young grandsons for a few hours. The bed was very comfortable and we “slept like logs”!

Breakfast time was very enjoyable. Our innkeepers helped us to move tables together to accommodate our various family groups. Happily, we were there enough mornings to be able to taste every item on the “mug” (The breakfast items are printed on the coffee mugs which serve as menus.) Ray especially enjoyed the strata, while I liked whatever dish I was eating each morning. Karen and Denny were diligent in keeping our coffee mugs filled with their steaming hot, delicious brew. Whenever they became aware that a particular fruit or bread was a favorite, they would always offer additional servings.

The Frederick House complex is located only short strolls from Mary Baldwin College, the Woodrow Wilson Home and Presidential Library, two car museums (one devoted to Porsches) and Staunton’s “main street”. We enjoyed many happy hours on “Main Street” combing through the antiques stores and multitude of specialty shops. The storekeepers were friendly and encouraged us to browse at our leisure. Many cafes, coffee shops and restaurants are sprinkled among the shops. The children thoroughly enjoyed riding through town on the old fashioned trolley car, playing on the playground equipment at the park, and playing with the train set up in the train and hobby shop. We easily walked everywhere, only using our car when we needed to drive to Wal-Mart (ten minutes away) to buy any items that we had forgotten to bring with us.

We did not have enough time to explore all of the attractions that are located within or near Staunton so we look forward to our next visit to the Shenandoah Valley, Staunton and especially the Frederick House. We thank Karen Cooksey and Denny Eister for being such thoughtful, accommodating hosts.

Had a wonderful long weekend stay at the Frederick House in November. The property was kept in immaculate condition, the hosts (Karen and Denny) went out of their way to be as helpful as possible, and the food at breakfast was prepared and served with care and skill. Recommend the Strata and the Apple Raisin Quiche for breakfast. The rooms were beautiful, each with a unique feel to them. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the rooms and the beautiful antiques in our room as well. The hosts were always willimg to provide many unique things to do and see in the Staunton area, from wineries, antique shopping, restaurants, and Farmers Market. Staunton is a very quaint town with quite a bit to do, and staying at the Frederick House (within EASY walking distance to all downtown attractions) was the perfect place to stay for us. We'll be back to Staunton and when we do, we will definitely stay at the Frederick House.
