“2nd time and we will gladly return, over and over again....”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

We spent two nights here as our yearly base for our autumn trip to see colorful trees preparing for winter in Shenandoah National Park.

Again (its our 2nd time) we were greeted with warm hospitality already at check in. Our two rooms (one for 2adults, one for 2children) were cosy traditional old-style, nice beds, clean, quiet and comfortable just on top of the stairs to first floor. We had all our dinners and breakfasts at the hotel. Lunches in S.N.Park.

Breakfast you can choose from either the complementary continental buffe-style or a la cart menu, as is their Dinners.

Prices are very moderate so we added deserts too! The restaurant was quite busy but no long wait for a table, drinks or food.
Fully licensed, which we enjoyed. They also have a bar were you can continue sipping drinks... We really like this place and will come back.

I agree with the other reviews that the hotel is unique and has great history. The rooms have private bathrooms and colorful walls, wallpaper and/or carpet. The hotel is also in a convenient location near downtown Strasburg, within easy walking distance (less than 5 minutes) of Hi Neighbor restaurant and Cristina's Cafe. Although my boyfriend and I got a great price for room 201 ($65/night instead of the usual $139/night), the room was quite small with the heater/radiator within 2 feet of the full-sized bed (see photos). The heater was very efficient at keeping the room warm but couldn't be kept on at night as the hot air was directed onto that side of the bed. [Other rooms were larger, so the heater was sufficiently far away.] Also, the box spring was quite flimsy and supported by wooden beams underneath that ran the width of the bed; not the best system as they easily came out of alignment. The rate we paid also included a complimentary breakfast which consisted of your choice of cold cereal, bagels, English muffins, coffee, orange juice, milk, cut fruit or whole fruit.

Room Tip: If you want one of the larger rooms, ask for 208, 209 or 210.

The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. They overextended themselves to help out my wife and I.We ate at the pub. Food was reasonable priced and delicious. The beer on tap was cold and served in a frosty mug. The rooms were clean and spacious. They offer a complimentary continental breakfast that was more like a full breakfast. Bagels, cantaloupe, cereal, oatmeal and of course coffee and apple crumb cake. Southern hospitality at its best exemplified by the lovely desk clerk Lola and the rest of the staff. DON'T STAY AT THE CHAIN HOTELS. THIS OUTDOES THEM BY A WIDE MARGIN.

Room Tip: Go for the suites with Jacuzzi. WOW!

It is definitely quaint and unique but we found it showing it's age. The king bed in room 202 is very bad; flat, hard and saggy. Carpeting is worn and needs replacement. TV service is poor and wifi is pretty slow. We did enjoy the pub food and good choices of draft beer.
In summary we think the Hotel Strasburg has seen better days and is in need of major renovation.

Stayed here while visiting Skyline Drive. It is a cute little town and this is a very old but cool hotel. They have the rooms open, if not rented out, and you can view the antiques in each. The pub is excellent to meet locals. I met the lady who used to own it, and she told me about the ghosts that are in the hotel. I had to check it out. Didnt come across any in the rooms she mentioned, but it was a fun time meeting some folks there and enjoyed myself. It was clean and comfortable. I didnt eat in the restaurant, but heard good things about it from other travelers and locals.

My wife and I stopped by on 9/11/13, while looking for a b&b on the same block about 8:30 pm. The B & B was lights out and we saw the hotel and thought we'd check it out. Rooms were quaint, and small but basically all you need, when you need a place to sleep. Alex and Lola were our waite staff, both were great people. Good food in the pub and a great breakfast! Sure beats staying in one of those chains, The hotel looked well over a 100 yrs old and I couldn't help but think of all the ghosts that may still be lurking about!

Room Tip: all rooms are different...just try your luck...check the beds though...some are firmer than others...

Enjoy this little hotel. It was as advertised. Very charming. Victorian-style decor. The dining room was very good and service was good. It is in a nice location. Easy access to Shenandoah National which is a must see. I would definitely return anytime I'm in the area.
