“Great Place to Stay on the Island”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

When we decided to visit Tangier we checked out the available Bed and Breakfast hotels. We picked Bay View Inn because there all the rooms have private bathrooms and that is important to us.

The Inn is charming. David Gott (son of owners) met us at the dock in a golf cart and conveyed us with our luggage to the Inn. He gave us a quick history of the island and the attractions on the trip. Maureen and Jim Gott are the owners and they were friendly and extremely helpful during our visit. This is only their third summer owning the Inn and they are in the process of remodeling rooms as needed.

Our room was comfortable, clean and pleasant. Besides the beds, TV, a small table and two chairs and a chest of drawers it also included a microwave and refrigerator which were much appreciated. We enjoyed sitting on the porch that runs the length of the rooms.

The breakfast served in the morning was delicious and plentiful. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting the island.

Besides the porch there is also a couple of raised decks with a view of the Chesapeake Bay and the runway of the tiny airport. There is a covered sitting area with a grill also. Lots of places to relax and unwind here.

We spent two delightful days on Tangier Island. It was so nice to slow down and take in all of the beauty of the island. This was made possible by our stay at the Bay View Inn. Maureen, Jim & David were great hosts and treated us like family. Not to forget to mention, the breakfasts were delicious, too. Accommodations were wonderful and having our golf cart to drive around town helped, too.

You don't want to miss this great vacation spot. You will come home with wonderful memories.

We ( 2 ) stayed 2 nights & just returned home. The hosts Jim & Maureen were so friendly & go out of their way to please. Conversation with them was very pleasing, informative and fun too... they're gret people. You are picked up at the ferry dock & taken to the B&B. Our room was lovely, clean, nice towels, a frig & microwave & the bed comfortable. Your breakfast is made to order by Jim & son Daved.. & includes home made baked goods, we had blueberry muffins & apple cinnamon muffins... waffles, pancakes plain or with choc chip or other additions. Eggs ( 1, 2 or 3 ) any way & the omelettes are awesome & can have in them, spinach, 7 choices of cheeses, ham, tomatoe, peppers, onion... 3 potatoe medley white, red & sweet cooked up perfectly with herbs & spices & bacon cooked up soft, med or well done, fruets, OJ and the coffee is great. They make sure all is perfect to please. Conversation with the other guests at breakfast & in the evening on the decks was interesting & fun too. There are 2 decks & a patio area out back offering views of the lovely sunsets. You can walk to any where on this Island as it's small or rent a golf cart ( the main means of transportation on this island ) as the streets are not wide enough for cars going each way. The marshes are every where & beautiful & thru them are water ways all of which offers many differing shore birds to see & observe seeking foods. The beach area is very nice & very clean. The island has 3 restaurants, 1 of which is down due to a fire. Oh & did I say crabs? Yes... crabs! Chesapeake Bay Blue crab is offered up in varying ways... in soups & bisques, crab cakes, soft shell crabs by its self or in sandwitch & in casseroles too. The fish is fresh & made perfect. There is also 2 other eating places that offer up things like pizza, sandwiches & specialty sandwiches with a crab cake or other style crab, cheese steaks, Hambugers, hot dogs, shakes & soft & hard ice cream. The Museum is a must do & the exhibits are done well & explain re the RICH and so interesting history of the island & re the Watermans history on it too. There are placards located on almost each street pointing out a piece of hisory you are looking at. There are 4 gift shops. And we also did a Crab Shanty Tour, offered by those themself who do the crabbing work, this is a must do also. The towns folk were very friendly to us & we enjoyed them. What a wonderful 3 days we had on Tangier Island & at the Bayview Inn B&B.

If I could, I would give 5 stars for service and 3 for the accomodations, so I averaged it to 4. When we arrived the husband and son were in charge. They took excellent care, picking us and our luggage up at the ferry. Dropped us at a restaurant for dinner, picked us up afterwards and had our luggage in our room when we arrived. Also gave us a ride to the beach the next morning and had our luggage at the dock waiting for the ferry when we were ready to leave. The room was spotlessly clean, but small. The beds comfortable. Don't expect luxury, this is more grandma's guest room. The view of the sunset from the decks is outstanding. And breakfast alone is worth a visit, wonderful made to order omlettes, waffles and pancakes, with delicious potatoes and fresh fruit. Wifi is available in the main house only and don't expect much in the way of phone service on the island. Also Direct tv does not carry NBC, CBS or ABC. Yes, the Inn needs some attention, especially the grounds, but overall it was a very nice overnight stay with very helpful and friendly hosts.

Our second visit to Bay View Inn and Tangier Island. We hope to visit as often as possible.
Maureen, Jim and their son David are the nicest hosts you could ask for. They're never in your way but are always available to chat/help if you need. They go out of their way to make you comfortable. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. Their breakfast is incredible - David makes potatoes to die for (he always obliged my request for more :D) And Jim's omelets are what you'd wake up for on a vacation :)
We already went there "again" and will definitely go there again and again. There's not much to do on the island but we go there just to stay at Bay View Inn.

Maureen, Jim, and David are some of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet. I valued & loved the "boat side" golf cart limo service that picks up you and anything you need transported to your room. "Relaxing atmosphere" is an understatement, "accommodating hosts" is an understatement, personalized service as your breakfast choice is prepared especially and deliciously for you.
If you’re going to Tangier and spending the night this is the place to stay. I’m sure we will be back many times in the future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on June 5th at the Bay View Inn and plan to go back later this summer! The hosts of this Inn (Jim, Maureen, & David) were just delightful in sharing their info and insights in visiting this lovely island. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a highlight as they personally prepared each of our breakfast choices. Our time spent there was a fun and wonderful experience and we felt we left Tangier Island having made 3 new friends! R. & R. Baker, Culpeper, VA
