Beach Quarters Resort
Ranked #58 of 109 Hotels in Virginia Beach
Reviewed 31 July 2014

After combing through all the reviews on Trip Advisor, I decided to book a 6 day/5 night vacation at Beach Quarters Resort in Virginia Beach. Overall our vacation was great! Here are a few things you might want to be aware of when making your decision;

Location: If you are looking to be away from the the main strip in VA Beach, this location is great. The hotel sits right on the boardwalk with a great view of the Atlantic. There are great restaurants nearby and live music every night only 1 block away.

Parking: All the reviews are correct, parking is tight. However, this is mainly due to the residents not following posted instructions and parking large vehicles in the economy parking spots. With that said, we own a Toyota Sienna Minivan and had no trouble navigating up and down the parking structure. If you drive slow, you will be fine.

Hotel Room: We have 5 people (2 adults, 3 kids) in a suite which consisted of a separate bedroom with 2 double beds and a pull out queen size sofa in the living room. This accommodated our needs and allowed us to separate the kids when necessary.

Fitness Center: One of the reasons I booked this hotel was the on site fitness center. I did not realize that there was a $5 per person, per day fee to use the facilities. This was somewhat frustrating to me as I feel like these accommodations should be included when you are paying $300-$500/night.

Bathroom: The bathrooms are very small and not set up for convenience. You have to walk through the vanity area to get to the toilet/shower and the area is so small you can not have more than 1 person at a time using the vanity. Because of this we had to make sure to give ourselves extra time so each person had time to get ready independently. In addition to the bathroom size, during peak times the shower lost all water pressure for 15-30 seconds or so every few minutes.

Housekeeping: I wasn't overly impressed with the housekeeping staff. We were there 5 nights and I would've expected the linens to be changed and the room vacuumed frequently. Neither occurred as I expected. I did talk to one of the front desk members but no one seemed to follow through with my request.

Customer Service: Overall every staff member seemed to go out of their way to say Hi and be helpful whenever possible. We arrived at the hotel 3 hours ahead of check-in time and were allowed to check in early as our room was already prepped for our arrival.

Concierge: The concierge desk is also the timeshare sales staff. They will initially try and get you to attend one of their presentations, but once you decline - they do not seem to continue to press the sale. They were great arranging various outings for us (Aquarium, Paddleboarding, Parasailing) as well as recommending local restaurants, etc.

Pool: They have both indoor and outdoor pools and both are great if you have kids. The hours were 8am to 10pm which was very convenient for us. They also provide beach towels which was wonderful!

Activities: Monday through Friday they have daily activities (similar to when you are on a cruise). The activities included yoga on the beach, pool volleyball, Happy Hour at the rooftop bar/pool, cornhole, dodgeball as well as a dozen other options. This was great on the cloudy days when the kids were looking for alternate things to do.

Overall we were very pleased with our stay and would stay again if/when we visit Virginia Beach.

Dear Jailine H, I'm Bill Beddie the Resort Manager at Beach Quarters. We appreciate the time you took to comb the web for places to stay and also your willingness to paint the picture of your stay with us. You point is well taking on the charge for the fitness center. We plan to bring this issue up with the board of directors at our next meeting. As you are now aware, our Resort is a timeshare and decisions for improvements are always welcome and well discussed with the board. I plan to bring up all of your points including the housekeeping notes. We hold daily shift meetings and I eagerly review all inputs from our guest. We sincerely appreciate your business and are delighted on your consideration of making us your "choice" of Resorts to stay at on following visits. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

2 Adults and 2 Kids. We stayed over Sat. and Sun. 7/26 and 7/27. The room was beautiful and clean. 2 double beds and a pull out sofa was perfect for the four of us. Ice maker with fresh ice was waiting for us. View was incredible. I loved that the bedroom/living area were separate, with a door you could close, (at least in our room). Pool/pool bar on 7th floor were the perfect place to grab a quick, delicious, cheap meal. The staff was very friendly. They try to get you to tour the timeshares, but a simple "no thank you" and that was the last we heard of it. If the pressure was any stronger, we would have been totally turned off, but that was not the case. Great fireworks visible from the balcony on Sunday. Bikes for rent as soon as you walked outside. Wish we had brought our tennis racquets. The roof top court looked great. Cannot say enough positive things. We WILL be back. Thanks for a great couple of days.

Wonderful weather in mid July so outside time was paramount. The Beach Quarters Resort is somewhat confusing. It is a condominium, but that's pretty much it. There is no restaurant except small pick up food at very small pool with no view; indoor pool is really small also; tennis court on garage level with no view and the garage - well, if you drive anything other than a Prius you might not consider parking there. That is the strangest parking garage we've ever seen - way too small to make comfortable turns even in a small car. Guess that's why they have rubber padding along the posts of every turn! On the bright side, there is an open parking lot guests can use at no charge about a block away that was convenient. The rooms are very small with little space other than furniture. The beds were very comfortable, flat screen tvs worked well as well as all other appliances and ac. The deck was small, but private directly facing the beach. No bellhops to help with luggage. Room tip: Ask for Floors 4-8 for nice views; otherwise, folks walking, biking, skating, etc. on the boardwalk can see into your condo and the noise could be a problem. The condo needs updating with new carpet and furniture - (ours had a bit of a smell) otherwise, it was ok. Oh, one more thing - the noise from the hallway could be an issue for some if your beds are just as you open the door. This condo is on the "quieter, not updated side of Va Beach". We probably would choose another newer condo the next time, but it didn't damper our good time. We give it a C on a scale of A being excellent and F being awful.

Room Tip: Floors 4-8 for better view and less boardwalk noise.

Booked it last minute to be on the beach a couple of days. Nice that all rooms are beach front. Had a small studio unit, was clean and had a balcony which is all we really needed. Wished they would have had better seating besides a small table with two chairs b/c we had some guests stop by and we all crowded the bed. But you get what you pay for and even at nearly $500 for a Thurs and Fri night stay it was one of the cheapest places at VA Beach, and at the less busy part of the boardwalk which we like. I do hate how they try to get you to sit in a timeshare briefing though at check in. There was a guy across the street trying to sell the same stuff so seemed redundant.

This is not a resort - not by a long shot. There were some pros to staying here although the cons definitely outweigh them!

Pros: Great location, fun activities, free parking, housekeeping does a great job, ocean view rooms

Cons: Concierge is a salesman (tried to sell their timeshare/resort as soon as we stepped through the door), no valet, elevators are poorly located throughout the parking garage, parking garage is horrific (corners are very sharp), only one elevator was operational during our stay, very tiny rooms (explanation below), dirty pool, pool picture did not match the website pictures

If you are getting the queen with a jacuzzi, BEWARE! Its not a jacuzzi or a hot tub. Its a very large tub that you have to fill up yourself and press the jets. Its not worth it. Also, the shower is inside the "hot tub" and you literally have to crawl over the side to get in/out of the shower. I wonder how many slips they've had...?

My biggest gripe with this is the price. Even though its on the oceanfront, definitely not worth how much they charged us. Recommend looking elsewhere!

The resort has made some nice upgrades to the resort and has added some great extras. The health club is great and did update the steam room and showers. The 7th floor roof top pool has a nice happy hour and the food is priced reasonable. The place is kept clean and the staff is always friendly. Can't wait till next year to enjoy again.

Stayed for only one night but wished I could have stayed longer. The entire staff was incredible, was greeted with warm, genuine interest by every hotel employee that I encountered. Every room has ocean-front balconies. The room had everything I needed, and the location is perfect as long as you aren't looking to be in the middle of everything-the resort is at the southern end of the boardwalk. Easy to locate and get into and out of. Recommend the roof-top pool and bar!!
