“Good choice for the price”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

We stayed for 3 nights in august. We enjoyed the location, right on the beach and although we stayed on the first floor with no balcony and just a little ocean view we didnt mind it, very close to the main door and pool. It was quiet. Shower curtain was in really bad condition but they replaced as soon as we complained, and bathroom ok, the sink was stained. The fitted sheets kept coming off the bed and there was a weird smell when coming in the room but didnt bother us. The free parking across the street was fine. Breakfast wasnt anything special but it was ok. Overall it was a good choice.

You get what you pay for - less expensive than most other hotels on the beach and probably not as nice.
As others said, the furniture is pretty dated. Had to ask for a 2nd set of towels. All the rooms have a view of the beach at least vs other hotels. The only free parking is across the street at the old Cavalier, so there is a fair bit of walking if you want to avoid paying for parking. A very basic breakfast was included that had 1 hot item.
Something I hadn't seen mentioned was the noise from military aircraft landing/taking off nearby. This applies to most hotels in the area I guess and seemed pretty continuous from 9am till later evening.

first of all I would like to say that Expedia mislead me and I will not use that travel agency again! It was an overpriced room that did not met my requests. first I wanted a room on a higher floor. the ranks for towels in bathroom where broken and the housekeepers them selves complained of the mismanagement. I guess since it is going to be torn down this month they didn't care. Nasty and expensive. no game room for kids like website stated

Room Tip: ask someone who has stayed there

Simply put the amenities are nice but the quality of the facility is not great.
The room is super dated, with mismatched furniture, nonworking lights, bulbs missing in others, and a musty smell. The freezer in the "tiny" refridgerator is completely frosted over, couldn't even fit my hand in it. Walls are "paper thin" , the noise from our neighbors showering was so loud we couldn't hear the TV. Bathroom was in poor condition, with rust, mold and stains in the tub.
TV itself is quite old and is set up on a table that is smaller than it's base. It hangs over on both sides.
It seems more like a two star hotel.
Having said all of this, the service is good, they did send someone up to try to fix the lights but he said they couldn't get the part needed until the day before we were to leave so we just said to not worry about it.
The quality isn't unbearable, just not what we expected from a facility that bills itself as "the best on the beach". This hotel has definitely seen better days. ( In the 80's, hahahaha)

When we got to our rooms at The Cavalier Hotel it smelled a bit musty. Then we looked in the bathroom and there was black mold on the ceiling! Our shower head was breaking off. They didnt give us enough towels. Our hotel key wouldn't work, so we had to get it reprogramed more than five times! I tried to hook up with the wifi from my room but it didn't work and when it did it was very, very slow. There was also what I'm pretty sure was blood on the bedsheets. The breakfast was terrible as they had the same choices every day. The food was so terrible I couldn't even eat it! The coffee was horrific! The TV was 15 years old, and there was about 5 holes in the wall. The parking was inconvenient, you had to pay to park even though they advertised free parking. The only good thing about this hotel was the view. This hotel ruined our vacation at Virgina Beach. I've heard rumors about demolishing it I don't know if they're true or not but I would never recommend this hotel to anyone or stay at it again, go to a nicer hotel and stay there.

We stayed here once in June and liked it so much, we booked for 5 days in July to bring our son back. The hotel is very clean and we had mostly no issues. The one and only issue we had was that the shower, the water would not drain properly. We had this issue in two different rooms. It was not that big of a deal though. We loved the view from both of our rooms, in June we had a ocean view, in July we had a Oceanfront. Both give a great view of the beach and water. The pool is nice however, no steps into the pool, you have the vertical ladders to get in and out. This is makes it hard to use the pool for people with disabilities. There is a gym in the basement and a small kids game room with a ping pong table as well. Parking is usually not a problem on site, you have to pay 7.50 per night in addition to you room. Overall, we loved the place.

Room Tip: There is really not a bad room here, all the rooms have amazing views.

1st we were upgraded to a beautiful Junior Suite. The room was lovely & the bed was surprisingly comfy. Nice jetted tub. The outside wall did fall off in the middle of the night but maintenance was there on time next morning to fix it. The only complaint was the terrible maid service. After day one we just stocked up on towels & didn't bother with them. Our view was fabulous! The employees were all very friendly. The free breakfast isn't what it used to be but it was either waffles or pancakes, fruit & cereal. I can understand the parking charge because the lot is very small I'm handicapped & had trouble finding a spot.

Room Tip: Buy a bus pass for 3days for $5. BUT beware bus doesn't run to hotel after 1:15am no matter what...
