Lovely rooms right on the ocean on the boardwalk. Loved having a little fridge and microwave. Rooms quiet. Staff friendly, helpful, always available. Nice lobby, convenient location near good restaurants. Our meeting rooms were very nice.I would certainly stay here again. My one quibble: continental breakfast needs to be upgraded.

We stayed at this hotel the weekend of Oct 22-24 and the Oceanfront rooms were very nice. There is a microwave, nice size refrigerator, safe and DVD player in the rooms. The bathrooms are marble and they have good smelling soap and shampoo dispensers in shower/tub combo. The staff was friendly and housekeeping was excellent and the location on the beach is perfect. This hotel has so many things inside. A breakfast restaurant (FREE), two other restaurants, an arcade room, a fitness facility, a mall (two stores) that rents the family bikes, and an indoor swimming pool. We honestly didn't need to leave the hotel or it's oceanfront. I would definitely stay here again.

This is not my first time traveling to the Sandcastle in Virginia Beach, nor is it the first time i am writing a review about this particular establishment. So i will tell you both sides of it because there were good and yet there were bad.

The Good:
-The rooms were at a good rate
-The Pool was a very good way for me to relax after i came back from my job
-There was a great selection in the Breakfast area
-The daytime staff was very very courteous and always cheerful as well as helpful with any questions. The front desk worker was a younger gentlemen that was there every morning i was there was always helpful and was always greeting me as i should be when i walk into a hotel. Also he knew directions to places in the Area which helped. The Main housekeeper which was very nice lady as well i got the chance to meet her one morning because i had a situation occur with my cleaning that was not to my standards and she took care of the situation right away and she also allowed me to have a late checkout which was very helpful. When i consulted the manager another morning about my situation of the cleaning agendas for all of the rooms she was also very helpful and also made me feel very confident in the hotel and made me think it was a better establishment than i though and is on the right track.

But on the other side

The Bad:
-There was no AC in the room, I opened the balcony door which made it ok but still would recommend AC in the rooms
-The dryer in the guest laundry is rusted and ruined my clothes
-The parking structure is very tight

-And Last and Is more importantly the worst while i was at this hot or so called "RESORT".... The Shifts all after the morning shifts are all extremely rude. Like in the first shift it was the same person during my 4 day stay with on the final day the addition of another younger male who was perfectly fine. But the female that worked with him was so rude that i would not even consider coming back to this hotel and i have come for over two years and mentioned it almost every time for about a year about how rude she is to the guest which was never really towards me but this time it did just so happen to be me. I understand everyone has a bad day but i stay at this time several times in a year and each time i've come here i have heard from plenty of guest complaints of the same female. But my situation was as follows. I asked the girl at the desk one of the days i was there if she could make some fresh coffee because they were empty. Which they do advertise Free Coffee and Juice 24 hours a day. So i felt this was no big deal. So her response was in a very rude manner " I will make some coffee after i take my smoke break" which to me was somewhat of an issue but not the biggest problem so i said okay ill wait considering it was the late evening i understand coffee may not be ready that late. But then not only that i asked for some change for the washing machine which she told me she had none and sent me to another hotel to go get some change. Then when i got back with that i found out the dryer was broken and she told me to carry my clothes down the street to go get my clothes dried at a laundry mat 5 min driving away which i did not drive considering i flew in. So when i got back with that over an hour later the coffee had still not been made and when i asked her again she got an attitude with me and told me "she will get to it when she has the time" stating she was very busy but when i walked up she wasn't doing much more than just standing there talking about personal things (that should not be discussed for one but we wont get into that) with the maintenance man on duty. So the last i was there when i had gotten back i had seen the same girl there again which at that point i had asked to speak with a manager cause through out the stay i was treated in a manner i feel i should not have been but i wont go into every days details but to sum it up this girl was rude to me each night. But she looked at me rolled her eyes and walked away when i asked for that when the young man that worked that night politely stated that there was no manager on duty at the current time and one shall be in during the mornings times which turned out to be no manager because Saturdays just so happening were her days off. So instead of talking to her i decided id post this so that everyone can hopefully avoid this terrible hotel or at least the terrible night staff.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room we stayed in had two queen beds, small refrigerator, microwave, safe, two, two drawer dressers with an end table, a reading table and two chairs. It was compact (partially due to the two beds) - would not want to stay for extended period.
Older hotel, but great location, next to park, fishing pier, and at southern end of most of the shops and restaurants. Complimentary breakfast was good, but eating area was small if hotel has many guests. There are two on site restaurants, one serving Greek style dinners, and the other only serving breakfast and lunch buffets during the week and dinner buffets on the weekends during the off season. We ate at the breakfast buffet a couple of mornings when the complimentary breakfast area was full, and the food was good. Dinner was also good at the Greek style restaurant. There is a small shopping mall with a couple of stores and an ice cream shop on the first floor level. Hotel has two elevators, so wait time was not a problem.
Parking on site can be a problem for taller vehicles, or vehicles that have low ground clearance because of the low overhead and the angle of the ramps. There is a fenced in area for off site parking a half block away for visitors that do not want to navigate the parking ramps. Overall I would rate this hotel very good for a short stay, and good for a longer stay of more than two weeks.

Hotel management was very accomodating and courteous. Great view of the ocean. Room was clean, but smelled musty. The carpet was old and should be replaced. The continental breakfast was sufficient, especially since you could make your own waffles. The price was very reasonable and we got a 10% AARP discount. We would probably stay there again if we return.

We stayed here one night during the Neptune Festival. When we arrived, although I had booked 2 rooms, the front desk only showed us as having one. They were able to quickly add a room but it wasn't a great start. The hotel is a bit dingy and far from what I would call a resort. Rooms are small, towels were thin, shower heads aren't placed quite right (water and everything needed updating. Location is great if you want to be in the middle of everything but it's quite noisy up until about 11 pm.

Overall we just thought the quality wasn't high and had expected a much nicer place, especially since we were paying $209/room.
