“The Mitchell's July Vacation-Wonderful Stay”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

If you are looking for a great hotel that is not located on the beach; look no further!! Spent 4 nights from July 24-27th. The front desk staff were great and friendly. It was a wonderful stay!!! The room was very clean. The fridge and microwave was a great benefit. Housekeeping was good!! The Hotel is in a great location; most of the tourtist attractions are only 10 to 15 minutes away. We had one issue with our bill wich was cleared up promptly. The only other minor issue was that there was not a mirror in the room; only the bathroom had a mirror. Perhaps, it was not brought back in after the room was renovated.

Overall: Highly recommend!!!! Excellent Stay!!

Room Tip: Suggest the corner suites; slightly bigger room.

Had a 4 night say during the July 4th week. It was an excellent stay ! The front desk staff was awesome. They let us check in early. We had one of the newly renovated rooms. There was an issue with the TV and that was fixed within minutes. Other then that it was a great stay. Used the business center with no issue, the bar area was ok. The bartender was very entertaining. Had breakfast on the last day which was one of the best I've ever had at a hotel. . Would have no problem staying here again !

Room Tip: All rooms should be quiet. Stayed on the 3rd floor. Not much noise at all.

Spent a week here on a work trip and was very pleasantly impressed with the hotel.

My room was well equipped with a good sized desk, fridge, microwave and ironing board and and kept spotlessly clean during my stay. The air-conditioning was a little noisy but very efficient keeping the room cool and dry (it does need turning down at night as otherwise you will dry out!).

The hotel has a good bar off the foyer and a restaurant, both of which I used during the week and both of which were friendly and exhibited good service. I even made use of the hotel laundry and Gym. A small shoppette is available next to the reception desk - where the coffee is free for those who are members of IHG Rewards Club/Priority Club Rewards... which if you have taken the trouble to use hotel points also translates into a discount for hotel guests in the restaurant, bar and free breakfast ..!!

The breakfast is very good with the usual porridge, cereals etc, but also a wide cooked-breakfast selection (which is a bit different everyday) a good fruit salad selection, danish pastries etc. There is also a live chef service to cook the waffle or omelet of your choice. The staff at breakfast are very attentive, polite and go out of their way to help.

During my week I also made use of the very convenient free shuttle-bus service into Virginia Beach to also use the restaurants there. The knowledgeable concierge has many good tips on possible restaurants to try. The staff at reception can also provide you with a recommendation card to one of the local restaurants, which if you present it to the waiting staff will translate into a free starter for your meal (one starter per table).

We stayed here during the 4th of July holiday weekend with intentions on going to the beach. Since we booked last minute, there was nothing available at the beach, so we went with the Crowne Plaza. Its a very quick and easy trip down 264 to the beach; 10 minutes tops as the hotel itself is just off the highway. The staff is very friendly. Both our check in and check out process took just a few minutes. The room itself looked brand new. I'm guessing we stayed in an area of the hotel that was recently renovated as it had a very modern look. The room had a flat screen TV and a safe at no additional charge which was appreciated. The soft, comfortable bed had me sleeping like a baby. The breakfast buffet was fantastic! Excellent spread with fresh omelettes and waffles made to order. The wait staff was particularly friendly.

The area around the hotel had plenty of restaurants and chain stores if needed. As I mentioned before, it's not on the beach but its location does allow you to avoid beach traffic on 264 when people are scrambling to leave after a long weekend. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the shopping/restaurant area from 5pm to 10pm. Unfortunately, no beach shuttle however. All and all, I definitely recommend this hotel and will likely choose it again on my next VA beach visit.

Room Tip: Beach parking is expensive but this hotel has a deal with the Country Inns & Suites on 18th Stre...

We gave just completed a five night stay at the Crowne Plaza whilst we pack up home to sadly leave the USA where we have been living to return to the UK and so potentially pretty stressed, in transit, with two very small children. The hotel was great. Our room was really clean and the bed linen beautifully clean with extra comfy beds resulting in great sleep all round. The room itself was not huge but being clean, absolutely fine for our family of four. The breakfast was FANTASTIC....fresh fruit, amazing omelettes and waffles cooked for you fresh on demand, all manner of hot stuff and lots of fresh fruit and great coffee. The pool was great for our needs and the laundry facilities etc all really clean and easy to locate/use. The staff were probably the most polite, child friendly and just happy hotel team I have ever one across....they were truly fantastic with us including our very boisterous three year old boy and never failed to astound me with how patient and friendly they were in all of our dealings. The restaurant is lovely and the menu for dinner just delicious and even during our evening meal, the staff went out of their way to make the children feel so welcome, accomodating my fussy three year old in his food likes/dislikes, adapting menu items and bringing colouring stuff etc etc...I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel and especially so for the happy, fantastic hotel staff. You really have helped make our transit back to the UK so much easier and have made me even more reluctant to get on the Plane to leave the fantastic friendly and fabulous USA! Great service, thank you.

Needed a room for a one night stay in Virginia Beach, and having stayed at this hotel before I felt comfortable staying there again. I had seen on the website that rooms were being renovated, but that the affected floors were not used during that time.

Our room was ready when we arrived and check in took less than 5 minutes. We were given room 518. The first thing I noticed when I got off the elevator on the 5th floor, was a wall of heat greeting me! The air conditioner in the elevator lobby of the floor was definitely NOT keeping up. Then, we walked down the hall to our room. I thought it odd that all of the other room doors were painted, while 518 was just a plain metal door. We were on a tight time-frame for the evening, so we basically looked the room over, changed clothes and left. The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, the TV worked, and the air conditioning in the room was working just fine. The signs said that there was an ice machine on the 5th floor, but we could not find it. Appears it has been removed as part of the renovations perhaps? We also had some trouble with the card reader in the door, but a housekeeping employee was going by and helped us figure out the "trick" to it.

Upon returning to the room late that evening, we had a little more time to look around. Lots of little things caught my eye. The bathroom door had no wall plate for the latch to catch in. Just a hole in the door frame. Neither the shower head ring, nor the faucet ring had been caulked into place. They were just spinning around on the wall, which by the appearance of the wall tile, appeared to be letting water in behind the tile. Two pipes had been cut off and capped in the bathroom wall. The drywall had not been patched over these pipes, they were just sticking out of the wall! The bedside table drawer would not stay shut. It insisted on staying open about 2-3 inches. Could be a real ankle knocker if you were not careful getting out of bed. The Wi-Fi signal was also weak and we generally could not stay connected.

When I checked out in the morning, I asked if the renovations for that room and floor were considered complete. She saw that I was checking out of 518, and said "that's the one with the gray door, right?", then told me they had been trying to get the door painted, but that the room always seemed to be occupied with guests. When I told her the other things we had found, she seemed quite surprised and wrote it down for maintenance.

She offered us a complimentary breakfast buffet for our inconvenience, which was a nice gesture on her part. I was just surprised that if they know a room's renovations have not been completed that they would continue to give it to guests.

Aside from lack of finishing touches to the room, our stay was very comfortable. We were initially concerned because there seemed to be several dance teams, or something of the sort, on our floor and we were worried about noise. But the rooms must be very well insulated, because we never heard a sound.

This stay will not prevent me from staying at other Crowne Plaza's, or even this one for that matter. I will just know to ask if the room is truly ready for occupancy.

Was in Virginia Beach for 5 days to visit family. The first room we had had a problem with the air conditioner which was so loud it kept us both awake (& my husband has a hearing problem). Note: this is an older hotel & does not have central air - the air conditioners are the window ones. We were moved to another room the next morning & the rest of our stay was comfortable. The property was definitely in need of a complete overhaul which is in process. Our room was one of the refurbished & was comfortable. The bed & linens are very nice. Bathroom mirror is exceptional in that it is lighted all the way around. One thing missing is that there is no full view mirror in the room, only the bathroom vanity mirror - difficult to see what you look like before you leave. Also there is no artwork in the room, not one picture, just bare walls. The property is very clean & well maintained. As mentioned they are doing renovations & it looks like it will be attractive when done. The bar is very nice & there's a small restaurant - prices a little steep. The pool was closed so can't comment there.
All in all a nice comfortable place for the price.
