Yes, this is the chain place, but it's great pizza. Though their other menu items (thin crust pizza, chicken strips, wings) suffer from the same generic, chemical-filled substandardness of other major chain pizza places, the one thing Papa John's does right is their original dough (also used to make the cheesesticks and bread sticks) pizza. A simple, fresh crust that kind of gives the textrure and mouth feel of Italian crusty bread, a sauce that is amazing, and some pretty decent toppings.
While I would love for a mom and pop pizza place to come to the Oceanfront and blow everyone away, it has never happened. Pi Pizzeria and Dough Boys remain bland and dissapointing (actually Pi is downright disgusting). The closest we have is Planet Pizza (which is very good). Please note that great NY style pizza does exist further inland (Sal's (2800 block of VB Boulevard), YNot, Neighbor's and Primo Pizza are all great at this), but for now this is the Oceanfront standard of pizza.
