“A Wildlife Preserve Masked As A Golf Course”

Red Wing Lake Golf Course
Reviewed 5 May 2014 via mobile

This VA Beach gem is as well maintained a municipal golf course as you will find. Well kept and playable, the course gets more interesting with each hole. All the while you encounter great VA beach back-bay wildlife that helps you forget the bad swing and reminds you to stop and smell the roses. A worthy stop if you are golfing in VA Beach.

Since this course was remodeled years ago it has made it a little easier to play . They took out a lot of bunkers and added some sloped fairways to help with drainage. Greens are flat which makes for some easy putting , but don't let it fool you with that speedy Bermuda greens !! Pricing was fair but the staff not so friendly , not basing it on that , solely on the course ! Didn't go there for that...

Played after 1pm for $35.00 for cart and green fees. Course and greens were in good shape but could have used a course Marshall. We had a foursome in front of us that played really slow and had everything backed up. The staff was very friendly at check-in and club house was nice and clean. We will definitely play it again when in the area.

There have recently been a string of break-ins in the parking lot. Car windows have been smashed and personal belongings stolen. No signs have been posted warning golfers and the staff is not notifying people or patrolling the lot. It has happened three times already and will continue as long as the management refuses to take action!!

This course is maintained very well and is a challenge for the average golfer. Greens are in fatastic condition (July 15 & 17 2013). Water comes into play on holes 3, 4, 9, 14, 16, & 17 although good tee shots will keep you out of trouble. The staff are very courteous and makes for an enjoyable outing.
