First stay at the Capes Hotel. We had a corner 2 room suite (which was an upgrade from what we booked). All rooms have a balcony with ocean view. Was able to watch fireworks from the balcony. This hotel is not luxurious by any means, but more importantly very clean. The hotel is in the center of all the beach action, but while in our room we never heard noise from outside (unless we had the sliding balcony door open) or other hotel guest. Very quiet and sound proof. The room was clean, had plenty of towels, and each of the beds had 3 pillows. A/C worked very well. The kitchenette (sink, microwave, and apt. size refrigerator) was spotless. We used the WiFi with no problems. The small indoor pool looked fine, though we did not use. We did eat on-site once at the small restuarant and the price was reasonable. We arrived too early to check in, but the nice front desk staff took our cell phone number and called us as soon as the room was ready. We were able to enjoy the beach while we waited. There are 2 TV's in the two room suites, and the TV in one of our rooms did not work. The hotel was not able to replace the set during our 1 night visit, but management did give us a small credit for the inconvenience. I consider that a very nice gesture and hope to stay there again before too long.

This was our first stay at The Capes. We had a corner two room suite (room 308). All the rooms overlook the ocean. The hotel is not luxurious by any means, but more importantly, it is incredibly clean. The bathroom had plenty of towels, each bed had 3 pillows, the kitchenette (sink, microwave, refrigerator, cabinets) was spotless. We arrived early and our room was not ready, but the very nice lady checking us in took our cell phone number so that she could call us as soon as our room was available. So, we walked to lunch and then hit the beach. We were in our room by 2:00 PM. The hotel sits in the center of all the action, but we could not hear anything outside. The room was completely sound proof from other guests and outside traffic. The A/C is the standard hotel type, and both of our rooms had it's own A/C. The WiFi worked with no problems. The nightly fireworks was right outside our room and we watched from our balcony. We did not use the small indoor pool for lack of time, but it looked fine. The only con was the TV that was in the room the kids were sleeping in did not work. We did not discover this until 10:30 PM and the front desk was not able to replace the TV. We reported this to management the next morning as we checked out hoping to receive some type of credit since my kids (ages 16 and 11) were not able to watch TV in bed. The manager said he wanted to check the TV out himself and then call us. We have not heard from him yet, don't really expect to, but will remain hopeful that The Capes will offer us some credit in hopes of receiving our return business.

This was our 3rd year staying at the capes.....upgrades since last yr include new carpets, new beds, wifi in the rooms...(which is great when you have 2 teenagers.) Located right on the beach and a very clean place to stay...Kitchenettes are wonderful...i'd really like to see some kind of continetal breakfast tho.....muffins....bagels etc. Although there is a resturant on the main floor (very small) We searched up and down the strip for a nice and affordable place to stay and this is it...cost was just under $1200.00 for the week.

Room Tip: ask to be in the wing thats not over the resturant..better view of the ocean.

Very easy to get to from the airport. Take 64 east, then 264 east, to the end (Atlantic Ave), turn right (you're on 21st St) and you'll see the Capes on your left. About 20-25 minutes from ORF.
Parking is right there or across the street.
This is a beach hotel. It is not NYC, London, or Paris, but that's ok.
Staff at the desk are polite, you check in easily, the room was spacious, great view, and the fridge and microwave are a nice touch. The air conditioner was fantastic.
There is a washer/dryer on the 7th floor.
Nice little restaurant on the first floor for breakfast and lunch. Friendly staff, good food, low prices.
The beach is right there. Buy a beach towel at one of the many stores across the street; the hotel doesn't want you to take their towels to the beach, and I can understand that.
I didn't use their pool, but I saw some people did, and it looked nice. I saw the pool is cleaned and the water is treated daily each morning.
You're in the the heart of the beach neighborhood, plenty of stores, bars and restaurants. It feels clean and safe in the neighborhood.
I have no complaints. It was a nice stay. Thank you, Capes!

This was our fourth year staying at the Capes. We love it because the parking lot is right on the pathway to the beach. Every morning we take our stuff out of the car and head right out. it is SO convenient. But the front lot does fill up quick. However they have other parking not too far away.
In the parking lot is the bike rental. Bikes for youths and adults are available for $7/hr. You save more if you rent longer. There are the 2 and 4 person vehicles too. We brought helmets and rented bikes. We really enjoyed the 2-person lounger style bike too. The larger vehicles are quite heavy to pedal!
We love that every room is ocean view. And it is a great view too. You get 2 plastic chairs and a small table. The balcony allows us to leisurely watch the sunrise every morning and it is perfect for watching the fireworks! We ate breakfast and other meals on the balcony daily.
The room has everything we need. The fridge is big enough to store food for the week (for 2 people) and it has a larger freezer for a mini-fridge! Our food in the freezer did stay frozen- but we did not stock ice cream or pops. The microwave island had a little sink and cabinet space for all your other things. You do have to bring all your kitchen needs! Don't forget the dish soap. But if you forget something a new Harris Teeter opened up within a short drive. We walked, but it was a little far. There is also a Walgreens at 24th that has many kitchen/food needs.
We enjoy the spacious bathroom sink space. I had my side and he had his side. And never seem to have a problem with steam from the shower due to the nice venting system. There is a rack for hanging clothing. Some hangers are provided. Housekeeping does a good job of getting the sand off the floor and making sure you have fresh towels daily. We found that they usually come in the early afternoon for those staying over again.
The staff at the front desk is friendly and answers questions with a smile. I have never experienced anything but good service from the front desk. The staff seems to really like meeting the hotel guests. There is no spa on location, but 2 close to the hotel.
The onsite restaurant has changed names, but we never seem to make it there. We prefer to bring our own food. The menu had a good amount of options. The restaurant serves breakfast too. There is no room service.
There is a small indoor pool. We always saw families enjoying the pool. Security is good at the hotel. The back door that goes right out to the beach has a code-entry system for guests. Staff is always at the front door and acknowledges everyone who comes and goes. We like this area of VA beach and feel comfortable and safe here.
We are looking forward to our 5th trip back to the Capes next year!

Room Tip: My favorite thing about this hotel is the microwave/fridge area which allows meal preparation which...

This is our 2nd year staying at The Capes and it is very reasonably priced in a prime location of Va. beach. It has all the amenities of a 4 star hotel, warm showers, kitchenette, comfortable beds, and clean rooms with an awesome view of the boardwalk and ocean. I have recommended this hotel to several people. You don't have to go on vacation and go broke when staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: All the rooms have full ocean views

This is a fantastic well-maintained hotel with friendly staff and great customer service. If you are looking for a 5 diamond with all the frills don't stay, but if you want an affordable hotel that is clean, bright an cheery this is your place. All of this includes a balcony with an ocean view that is breathtaking. Only downside the mattress are very hard...hopefully they can fix that for our stay next summer.
