“The view and the whirlpool made us decide to come back to The Capes next year”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at The Capes in Virginia Beach. The hotel location is very nice centrally located near everything. The ocean is steps away out the backdoor and tons of beach shops are steps away from the front door. A room with a whirlpool tub is an absolute must. It was so relaxing after a day of walking or playing in the waves to relax in the jets. You can drive a short distance (approx. 10 min.) to most attractions such as the aquarium. Beware when planning trips lots of places like the aquarium close early (5:00 p.m) learned that the hard way lol. The ocean view is perfect, from the balcony you can sit out and watch the numerous jets, helicopters, and boats pass by. We ate many meals right there on the balcony. The front desk staff at The Capes was very welcoming when we arrived and knowledgeable about how to get to different stores in the area when we asked. The parking lot is small and may be tricky to get a parking spot but we did not have a problem the three days we were there we always found a spot in the front parking lot and did not have to go to the overflow lot. The rooms are clean and the maid service is good. The gentleman who was cleaning our room recognized us and knew which room we were in when he saw us at the elevator and asked if we needed our room cleaned or fresh towels. The room is an adequate size, it has a nice counter and sink area by the mini fridge. The bathroom is a little small, but the counter and sink outside the bathroom provided enough room. The view and the whirlpool made us decide that we are coming back to The Capes next year for vacation.

We spent a week at the Capes in Virginia Beach. We brought our entire family. It was a great experience. The entire staff was fantastic, very personable. The rooms are very clean. It was great having a little kitchen area. If you want to be in the center of everything on the Boardwalk, this is the place to stay!! And the views are awesome! I would recommend this place to anyone!

Room Tip: We were in romm 302 and 303. These rooms were GREAT!

I want to thank the staff at The Capes for their wonderful service! While
traveling with our ailing mother, your staff went out of the way to make her
stay as comfortable as possible! Stacy even got us a chair with a higher back
out of another room. Debbie was so sweet wanting to do anything she could
to make our stay even more comfortable so we wouldn't have to leave a day
early. We really appreciate the effort from everyone! The hotel is clean and comfortable! The staff couldn't be more caring and helpful! We look forward to staying with you in the
future! Patty Kinsley.

We picked this hotel because of reviews and we were not disappointed. We thought that the hotel was really easy to find and parking was convenient. We arrived a little earlier than check-in and the staff kindly accommodated us. We were impressed with how clean all of the areas of the hotel were especially with the amount of people and sand that track through the common areas. Our room was exactly what we expected from the website and very clean. We appreciated having all the cabinets and storage in our hotel room because we were able to completely unpack everything and feel like we weren't living out of our suitcases for the week. We loved that all the rooms faced the ocean and enjoyed a sunrise right from our balcony. We did eat lunch at the Hidden Pearl restaurant and the food was great for a reasonable price. We never drove anywhere because the hotel was centrally located to everything we wanted to do. If we didn't feel like walking, we caught the bus which stopped right outside the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Capes.

It has been a few years since I have been to the Capes. It is centrally located on Atlantic and all rooms are ocean front. I was traveling with extended family for a cousins weekend. We were in a two room suite 408. The one thing that is great about the Capes is that the suite will sleep 6. The bedroom has two double beds. The other room also has a double bed. Not a sofa sleeper, which is usually what you find in a 2 room set up. There were two regular chairs to sit on and a 4 person table and chairs as well. The suite had 2 tv's also.

The suite has some decent kitchen cabinet storage space an apartment size fridge, microwave and coffee maker, but they do not supply coffee in the room. You may help yourself to coffee in the one area next to the front desk. They do have ice machines on two of the floors. The bathroom is small as some have stated. But the vanity & sink are outside and it helps some. We had plenty of hot water for showers regardless of the time of day. Plenty of towels too. The balcony area had two chairs and a table and we actually pulled one chair out from the suite and we were just fine. We were able to sit and sip some wine and enjoy the ocean.

The Capes also has a nice indoor pool area and a small cafe. They do have menus at the desk but they don't have the hours listed. I did inquire and they open at 8:30. Selection seemed decent and prices were ok. But we didn't eat there. They did have some nice cocktail specials, Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's for $1.99. There are all sorts of dining options in the area along with the typical beach gift shops to roam around in the evening.

The room was clean and that is what mattered the most. Everything was in good working order and we were all able to have our own bed and we were all comfortable. I have been to the Capes with extended family and my immediate family and we have always had a good stay. The staff were all very nice and helpful. It isn't the Hilton but it had what we wanted and it worked. For as much as we were in the room, we didn't need much more. It is a good place for families who want to give their kids their own space and have mom and dad can have their space too. It was nice to see that the hotel and staff have remained consistent even though I haven't been there in a few years. The hotel overall was quiet, some noise on the board walk but they couldn't help that. Some folks just don't consider that others are in the area, might have small children sleeping. But all in all, it was a very nice stay and I would return again.

Room Tip: The suites sleep six, three double beds, NO SOFA BEDS, comfortable beds for everyone.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent stay with us here at The Capes Hotel. I am sorry you did not find the room size up to your expectations.

We do appreciate you acknowledging our room was nice just not as large as you had expected. The King Suite has a bedroom and living room with a whirlpool tub with an oceanfront balcony and is designed to accommodate only two persons.

We hope you'll give us another opportunity to show you what a great and memorable experience staying at The Capes can be!

Picked The Capes after reading many reviews on TripAdvisor. Location of this hotel is excellent. Rooms are oceanfront and we had a corner suite which made it even better. You were oceanfront and could look around the corner of your balcony and see the "strip". Only moved our car once during our entire stay. Trolley stops about every 15 minutes in right in front of the hotel. Our first night we rode the trolley all the way to the end of the strip and back to familiarize ourselves with the area. The service provided by the employees of the hotel was above and beyond what you usually receive at a hotel. They were extremely helpful and available 24/7. There were five of us in our party and we had the one bedroom suite. We had plenty of room and privacy since doors separate the bedroom from the rest of the room. The bathroom counter is separate from the toilet/shower area so one can be getting ready while someone else is showering. The food at the onsite café was delicious and very reasonably priced. Great burgers!! When my next to VB comes around, I am sure The Capes will be my first choice!!

Room Tip: Stayed in room 308--a one bedroom suite. It is a corner unit. We were oceanfront on the balcony an...

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to give our hotel wonderful praise. It always makes us happy to hear we took such great care of our guests and that we managed to enhance their stay. It is so nice to hear that you enjoyed the spacious, well appointed accommodations and outstanding food at our oceanfront cafe. Our location is truly ideal right on the beach, so close to shopping and everything else Virginia Beach has to offer.

Once again, thank you and we look forward to seeing you the next time you are in Virginia Beach.
