Great place for a leisurely bike ride ... Or a quiet walk .... Just getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

False cape State Park is a wonderful nature reserve. Camping, fishing from the small beaches and taking nature walks are all apart of its draw. There are several nature trails clearly marked for walking or biking. It is definitely a place for those who like to be close to nature. Bathrooms are at the beginning of the nature walks so be prepared. If you don't plan to spend a few hours in the real outdoors, this place is not for you. Beautiful trees, flowers, and nature all around !

This is a wonderful place to ride bikes or even kayak to. There are even geocaches to be found here.

Off the beaten path + requires some time and effort to get there = only means of access = hike, bike, or boat.

No cars allowed beyond the visitor's center.

Summers tend to be hot, humid, and buggy,

Arrived by boat + camped out a number of years ago during a memorable November weekend.

My friends and I had the entire beach to ourselves!

Slept soundly in the cool night under Millions of stars!

Lots of trails + you might get lucky and see the wild horses that make this their home.

Enjoy!

But you might have to do some work to find it! You have to drive out to Sandbridge (south of V Beach), then drive further south through the dunes to the Back Bay Wildlife area. NOW you can (in the warm weather) take a little tram out and back. OR you can walk. OR you can ride your bike. In the cooler seasons there is no tram. It's not a short walk or ride, either. I think it is an easy three miles to get to False Cape. Once you do, it's pretty cool. There is ONE big modern building, a log cabin-style main office. There are trails to the back bay, trails to the waterfront, trails to camping. Pick your poison. But the beach! Ah! NO development. Just miles of sand, big dunes, pelicans, crabs, dolphins and silence. Keep going south and you are in North Carolina.Bare bones, though. There are no eats, primitive "comfort facilities", etc. This is back to basics. We ALWAYS make sure we get to False Cape every year.
