“Great time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2014

Great location - room facing the beach. The size of the room was good too for the boys to move about. For the price, it was a great deal. The staff was pleasant as well....All in all, we had a great time.

Room Tip: Rooms booked via Tripadvisor face the beach.....

My family stayed one night at the Schooner Inn for the Surfers Healing Autism event held on the beach the next day. We stayed in a suite (2 beds, 1 sofabed) which was comfortable for our group of 3 adults and 2 teenagers. The room had a mini kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, stove, sink, and dishes) and table and four chairs. It was just steps away from the boardwalk and ocean, so location was perfect! The hotel offers free wi-fi (excellent connection), a pool (3'-8'), and coin ($2 a load- quarters only) washer and dryer. The washer/dryer and ice machines are a bit inconvenient as they are located on the 6th floor and require you to walk around outside, enter the lobby, and go up the elevator, but not a big deal. We requested and received a ground level room to make access to the beach easy. The parking lot is small and we did initially have trouble finding a spot. Hotel staff created a spot for us and we moved the car later when a real spot was available. It is important to note that they can only accommodate one car per room. There are city parking lots nearby (for a fee).

The beds and pillows were clean and comfortable. The mattress was a little soft for me personally, but fine. We did hear babies crying in the room next to us, and people walking on the boardwalk outside all through the night, but it only bothered the light sleepers in our group. The bathroom was clean. Shower pressure was good. The vent in the bathroom did not work well and steamed up the bath in the quickest of showers. AC worked well and was quiet.

The only issue we had was I had requested a late checkout due to my special needs son surfing on the beach, and wanting him to be able to shower before we got back in the car. I was told when I made the reservation that it would not be a problem. At check-in, I was told I had to come by in the morning to discuss late checkout with the manager. I went to the office at 6:30am, and was told to come back at 7:30 am. I came back at 7:30 am, and was then told it wasn't possible, as the hotel was full. I did not appreciate all the back and forth. As I was checking out, I was a bit upset, and Judy, the manager, did offer to allow us a few minutes past checkout, but it was too late at that point as I had already packed up the car. This difficulty would not prevent me from staying again as it was a nice, clean place, but if you have questions or requests, I would call ahead and speak directly with the manager, Judy, to save yourself time and trouble.

Very reasonably priced for being beachfront! Rooms were clean and smelled good. Water pressure in bathroom was good. Plenty of parking and felt safe. First time staying here and would definately stay here again!

The Schooner Inn is the last hotel at the end of the Virginia Beach boardwalk. All rooms face the ocean and some have hot tubs.. It is a bit off the beaten path from most of the boardwalk activities, but easily accessible with the public transit system. The rooms were clean and ours had an efficiency kitchen with a service for 4. The staff was helpful. The Schooner is quite a bit cheaper than almost any hotel situated on the ocean. A big plus for us is that all rooms were smoke free. Not much glitz, but for the price it is unbeatable.

Room Tip: Stay away on the weekend of the surfing contests- this year the third weekend of August.. Some of t...

The hotel for the pricing is worth a quick trip. We stayed on the fourth floor in an ocean-view room with balcony. It was very pretty. Checking in was smooth. Checking out was even easier because everything was already paid for. The location was fine for us. We appreciated that we were in a quieter section of strip, yet still easily accessible to restaurants and attractions.

The bathroom could use a little work. I wished it was a bit more modern and spacious. Yet ... For the price, how can one feel compelled to complain.

We are going back to VA Beach next summer and we plan to stay here again. Next time I would like to stay for at-least 3 days.

The room did have a great view, but not much else. We came a day early and wanted to leave a day early, but they wouldn't accommodated. They charged us like $200 for the early night and then got refunded the $150 from the end of our trip. There was some problems the one evening that we were not aware of. The elevators were extremely slow so we decided to take the stairs. There was blood all over the stairwell that they never cleaned up from the night before. That was it for me. Then the room comes with a heart shaped tub that cuts into your balcony space. If you don't want a room with it, it will cost you more money. Doesn't make sense to me. The only bonus was the one young lady at the counter that was pleasant to speak with. Everything else was subpar.

Room Tip: Definitely want a room with a view, but if you want to enjoy the balcony, pay the extra to NOT have...

This room was not clean. It was $250+ a night. Although it was a great location, the room was dirty, dingy, and smelled like air conditioner fluid. Eww. I do not understand how places like this get away with charging so much, even with a great location.
