Description: Classic, consistent, upscale cuisine is offered in a well-appointed, unpretentious setting in this top-notch nosherie. The mahogany bar invites easy conversation and casual dining. Located on the affluent Great Neck corridor in Virginia Beach, just three miles from the Oceanfront, Coastal Grill is as famous for what isn't on the menu as for what actually is. Executive Chef-Owner Jerry Bryan with Maureen Cucchiaro at the stove offer an extensive list of "blackboard specials," always with a nice assortment of freshly caught regional seafood. This locals favorite has received critical acclaim since its inception over 20 years ago, culminating in being voted the Number 1 Restaurant by Hampton Roads Magazine. With amazing food, exemplary service, Coastal Grill is a sure bet for business dinners, special occasions, or simply unwinding after a hard day. Come celebrate with us!

Being by VA beach and near Chesapeake Bay with marvelous vistas, we chose Coastal Grill, which did not have a great location, because their menu included a duck dish that our birthday celebrator favors with a second favorite food, scallops. Normally, we like restaurants with a view preferably water view. Coastal Grill's menu has adequate variety with all types of meat and seafood.

All of us were satisfied with our choices of appetizers and main courses. The soft shell crabs were delicious. Two crabs were sufficient for me, but the price is stiff and could have been right priced at $5 less.

Overall, our Columbian Lady Server made up for the prices. I just wish that I could recall her name at this very moment. My apologies for this. She was attentive to us! It was also amazing that she knew well the long list of specials that they offered on Sunday, 27 July 2014.

We live on the Peninsula so we don't often go to the Beach for dinner. I sure wish we had more restaurants like this. Food was excellent and what made it really special was the great service from the hostess to the bartender to the waitress. Fried scallops were delicious and flavorful, as well as the appetizers of fresh tomatoes and mozzarella, fried oysters, and steamed mussels. My boyfriend had the tuna and even though it was thinner than normal he said it was fantastic.

We love tried and true. As much as the next consistency lover. But if you don't change up your menu to flex your creative muscles and show your ability to innovate and impress we just can't see a reason to come back a 4th time. Whomever crated your menu has obvious skill and expertise at making a superb plate but we can only wonder if they are even still there!

Service was great as always. Very warm and welcoming. They deserve more...

third time in this place and everyone of us had an outstanding meal, wonderful service and a lot of fun. From the Salmon, to the Lamb, to the Duck and the Oysters, it was all top notch and the Duck might have been the best I have ever had. If you like food, and do not mind going a little distance this place it more than worth it.

Wow...this restaurant never misses a beat. We all started out with a lovely garden salad with currants, pine nuts and yummy chunks of blue cheese. I was trying to hold back not eating the whole thing to save room for dinner. After our waitress told us about the dinner specials we ended up ordering the pan seared tuna with peppercorns (moist and tender), the grilled salmon with deep fried capers and mushrooms ( the most different salmon I've ever had), the soft shelled crabs ( delicious) and a lovely grilled steak. We all enjoyed our meals so much we kept sharing our bites for all the different flavor explosions. After dinner we decided on the ice cream filled mini cream puffs with a drizzle of chocolate sauce....what a great way to finish off our meal.

To share some good news Coastal is going to move across the street to expand into the old Cape Henry Hardware store so reservations will be a lot easier to come by.

I'm so glad we revisited this restaurant, it truly is a great dining experience.
