“Nice Hilton in Great Location”
Reviewed 7 February 2012

We have stayed at this hotel a lot, we use it when we are not with the whole family. We are diamond members so we are able to take advantage of the club room where they have a continental breakfast and appetizers in the evening (no alcohol is included). The staff in the club room are amazing and are super friendly and helpful. The rooms are standard size, but are right at the age where they can use an update. There are no microwaves, but you can get a refrigerator for extra cost. Make sure you do not reserve a city view room, besides having no view of the ocean, there is no sliding door or balcony so you cannot get fresh air, This hotel is in the best location at the beach and is right next to a park where they bring in great music during the summer. Staying here gives you access to the pool on top of the hotel with the Sky Bar, but the pool closes very early to transform the bar into a nightspot. Your room key gives you access to the Sky Bar, it is very popular with a younger crowd. If you want more room with a full kitchen and a more personal experience, try the Residence Inn in the next block.

Stayed here off-season mid-December, for a week business trip. The Hotel was decorated absolutely gorgeous for Christmas, with many trees, fancy garland, decorations etc. Really added a nice touch to this pre-Christmas stay, and was very professionally done. The staff here was wonderful, and very friendly. I had an oceanfront room on the 19th floor which offered a spectacular view of the ocean, beach, and boardwalk. As it was right before Christmas, the boardwalk area was decorated with a drive thru exhibit of lighted holiday figures.

The Hlton has a pay parking garage right across the street, which is connected via walkway, and is very convenient. There is a rooftop pool, and although I didn't use it, I did walk up there to admire the view of the beach and city.

The room was comfortable and clean, as was the bath. I had access to the Concierge lounge which was also nice to visit for some evening snacks or a drink (which can be charged to the room).

I have stayed at other hotels in the area, however this Hilton is clearly a cut above the rest. Highly recommened!

Room Tip: Oceanfront room are worth the extra cost - outstanding views.

Dear Gavinnailbender:
Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I apologize for the inconvenience of the lounge, it opened an hour late due to a minor issue. I am pleased to hear that you went to the front desk and that they were able to assist you with breakfast in Catch 31.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront soon!

A very nice Hilton property, well maintained and expert staff. I've stayed twice, once with an ocean room view and once with city room, although several of the city view rooms have some limited ocean view, but no balcony. The elevators in this hotel seemed to keep up very well with demand (a pet peeve of mine.) The lounge was not open on Saturday morning as adverised, when I mentioned it to the desk, they gave me a coupon for a complimentary breakfast at the Catch 31 restaurant attached to the hotel. great location to walk the beach, or the boardwalk, easy and cheap parking, although I was there in the off peak season, so it may go up. I can strongly recommend this hotel, for either a business or pleasure stay. Would make a great romantic weekend!

Room Tip: Might be able to save a few bucks asking for a city room with a partial view of the ocean instead of...

We stayed here during Christmas break vacation (2011) and had a wonderful time. The really main thing about this hotel is the customer service and the food at Catch31! From the front desk to the maintenance everyone is so helpful and cheerful! We had issues with our door sticking and they came right away to work on it. It ended up taking over an hour to fix before we could get back in our room so they gave us (family of 4) a free breakfast for the next day at Catch31. Catch31 has a really great breakfast buffet and everyone is so friendly. The beds have a pillow top on them and are very comfortable. My kids really thought the roof top pool was neat. It is smaller but it is really nice. The indoor pool is kept up and very nice also. I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We were in room 803 and had a nice view of the ocean/beach and the side court.

We are locals and like to stay here for the art shows on the Boardwalk. We like luxury and are willing to pay for it. Unfortunately, this is the only game in town and it's not a great one. We book a club floor room (requests for specific room or even orientation have never been honored...not in 5 years) and the view is spectacular. But there are caveats: the elevators here are ridiculously slow. Have been since the place opened. You need to plan accordingly, i.e. add at least 10-15 minutes to your schedule. And if you're on the club level, which is actually 3 floors here, plan to use the stairs to access the lounge unless you're lucky enough to be on the same floor. Same drill for the rooftop pool: you have to use the elevator to go up, and can use the stairs to come back down. If your room is under the pool and it's a weekend, prepare yourself for lots of noise at night. The music vibrates thru the ceiling. Pool is lovely, just very small with a limited number of chairs, so if it's on season, either claim your space early or forget it. Service is touch and go. They actually "forgot" to clean our room one day. (Really, that was the reason given.) Not a big deal, but when you're paying a premium to stay on the club level, you do have some expectations.
What you do get at this Hilton is location, location, location, and a spectacular view if you get an oceanside room. The food at Catch 31 and Salacia has always been excellent, but you can walk or take the trolley to all kinds of great eats. If there were competition in this category of hotel, the Hilton might be forced to up their game. Sadly, it's all there is on the Boardwalk right now.

Room Tip: Oceanview room will cost you more, but it is the best view in town.

I decided a small get away after the Christmas Holiday. I chosed the Hilton because I wanted comfort and good service. Well that's wasn't what I recieved. When first arrived, it took the concierge over 15 minutes to acknowledge me. When I finally got to the right person to check in, she talked so fast that I could hardly understand her.
No matter what had occurred downstairs, I knew that once I get into my room, I would be at ease. When entering the room, it looked as if the floors were never vacuumed, no frig, no microwave, no nothing. I spent $180.67 for one night and did not get anything. I was so disappointed that I could not wait until the next day, so I could leave.
