“Average Suites Hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2009

I stayed here for 3 nights with my family. The suites were nice sized but not a true suite unless you reserved a one bedroom. Room was clean but facility itself i.e .indoor pool, common areas needed more upkeep. I know there are people coming in and out of the beach and the common areas get dirty quickly but so should the hotel.

There are a lot of choices for the free breakfast. My kids liked the waffles you can make. The hotel was very busy but the lines were not that bad. No lines if you went down before 9 am.

Outdoor pool was nice but you have to walk out of the back of the hotel and basically go to an area next to the hotel. The pictures make it look like it is behind the the hotel but it is not.

Free parking was nice and easy to get your car. There was also free internet. The hotel is convenient to boardwalk and rest. in the area. We ate at Watermans a few blocks down and it was very good.

Upon researching many hotels in the VA beach oceanfront area, I decided to go with Springhill suites because of the location, size of rooms, quality, excellent service, huge outdoor pool with bar area, and recommendations from friends. I was very pleased with the service, friendliness of the staff, secure feeling of the faclility, and the room details and amentities.
I highly recommend the hotel for anyone going to stay,.Couples, families, it does not matter. The outdoor pool was very large and open all day and night with clean towles for the guests, a hot tub was also in the pool area and very relaxing.
The hotel is right on the oceanfront with a great view of the boardwalk and ocean. We chose the suite to get the biggest room, a fridge, sitting area, microwave and seperate bed rooms.
The only thing we saw that we did not rate 100 percent was the indoor pool was a little cold and luggage carts were in limited supply. There is no restaurant at the hotel, but many are very close and within walking distance. Other than that, the hotel and the staff were excellent, courteous, offered advise to where to eat, activities, etc.
The hotel was better than most I have stayed at when going to the beach. The breakfast buffet was a hit with everyone and offered lots of items compared to most hotels. The hotel was a little pricey compared to some, but there was no loud party crowds, or obnoxious people of any kind and that was expected from the level and class of hotel.

Just returned from a two-night stay with my husband and two teenaged sons. Splurged for the One Bedroom Suite because its nice to have extra space with the kids. We were on the top floor with large livingroom/kitchenette area (space frig, sink, microwave & coffee maker) plus a full separate bedroom with two queen beds. Balcony overlooked the beach and was a nice spot for morning coffee or afternoon cocktail.

Hotel was crowded and busy but never too noisy. Typical summertime beach hotel - mostly a family crowd. The complimentary breakfast was good and plentiful but very crowded. If you are an early riser, go to breakfast early!

Small indoor pool area and fitness center looked nice but we did not use because we had perfect beach weather. Hotel had great access to beach - staff was very helpful, especially bell staff/valet. Would definitely recommend this hotel and stay again.

We just spent five nights at the SpringHill Suites on the boardwalk. Two adults and four kids (ages 13-21) shared two king-bed suites. We had a great time. Bearing in mind that this popular hotel runs full all summer, this hotel meets the challenge well. The few "issues" we might point out were more than outweighed by the many positive aspects of our visit.

On arrival, the limited space in front of the main entrance makes for pretty serious congestion. Despite the 100-degree heat, the valet staff was helpful and courteous in directing us to a temporary parking spot, helping us unload, and parking our van. (Valet parking is complimentary, but we opted to self-park the rest of the week for easier access.) The desk staff was always friendly and helpful. Arriving around 2 p.m., we were not surprised that we could not check in early since it is peak season. By check-in time, the desk crew had met our request for two adjacent rooms for our family, and even an adjacent third room for friends traveling with us. While we were waiting, they provided pool passes and a lobby key, and called our cell phone number as soon as the rooms were ready.

Breakfast every day was fine despite the crowds. The breakfast team was friendly and attentive. They consistently replenished anything that ran low right away. Even at the end of the busy breakfast hours, they had a cheerful "good morning" for the guests.

Our two rooms, with sofabeds, were ample for three family members in each. The balcony was pleasant, a great vantage point for watching the beach, the evening fireworks, and the passing dolphins. The air conditioner blows hot air directly onto the balcony when it is running, which obviously is not ideal for comfort on a hot day.

Housekeeping was mostly excellent, falling short in just a couple of instances. On the first night, we found sheets on the sleep sofa that obviously had not been changed before our arrival. On our second day, we did not get any maid service and had to ask for fresh towels. The rest of the time, the housekeeping was excellent, and the housekeeping staff generally were cheerful (e.g., they did not act put out if they found the room occupied and were asked to return later). One of the four televisions in our two rooms had a snowy picture, but we did not plan to watch TV so that was a non-issue for us.

The exercise room was mostly aerobic machines (treadmills, bikes), but had an array of dumbbell weights. The hotel has both an indoor pool and an outdoor pool, nice features to supplement beach time. We did not use the poolside bar-restaurant so we can't comment on the quality of the food there. We were given 15%-off coupons at check-in.

The common areas of the hotel obviously take a lot of wear and tear from the vacationing hordes, but the hotel seemed to have ramped up its staff to meet that challenge. We saw plenty of staff doing cleaning and maintenance throughout the property. The furniture and carpets in the common areas seemed pretty well kept, with no more than the unavoidable spill spots and worn corners that one would expect late in a busy vacation season. This is a fairly new hotel, and it remains to be seen how well it endures the onslaught of vacationing visitors over the years, but it seems managed well enough to pass the test of time.

In short, we had a great week at the SpringHill Suites and would not hesitate to return for a vacation here next year. (We used points so I can't comment on the "value" for the price in general.) I have stayed here a number of times on shorter off-season business trips, too, and on those occasions, found the hotel to be top notch (fueling my decision to stay here with family instead of one of the other oceanfront properties).

We stayed here for 4 nights in august. It was our first visit to Virginia Beach, and we were traveling with our 1 year old son. The beach is absolutely fantastic - soft sand without any shells or rocks, and a really large stretch of sand. The water is warm, and and relatively clear (as best as can be expected for this far North). The boardwalk is very nice, and they encourage bicycle riding. It is a little different than what we are more familiar with (Deleware shore), as there are no arcades, pizza shops, funnel cake shops, etc.

The hotel is situated right on the beach, and all the rooms are Ocean Front rooms with nice balconies. Check in was fast and painless, and the front desk staff are knowledgable and helpful. The parking is free. Wireless internet from the room is free, but slow.

The rooms are very nice. 5 pillows on the King size bed. The microwave and fridge are very nice. There are 2 televisions; The only real drawback is that there is no door between the 2 rooms of the suite, so we had to keep the TV volume down while our little one was sleeping. The bathroom was sufficiently large (though by no means spacious). Maid service was timely and very courteous.

The outdoor pool is adjacent to he property, and there is a bar that serves food. There are only 5 umbrellas by the beach (but some empty bases - you can bring your own beach unbrella and stick it in one of the bases). There are some waiters that walk around, but they are few and far between. There is a small hot tub as well.

Breakfast is free, and is an expanded breakfast with hot items, including a waffle bar. This is very convenient. The breakfast area was usually packed by 9 AM, but if you come earlier, there is not much of a wait. You can feel free to take extra fruit, bagels, or cereal to your room for an extra snack. The coffee is hot, and there is 24 hour free coffee and hot water/tea.

The hotel is located around 9th street. Much of the excietement in VA Beach seemed to occurr North of us, from 16th to 31st street (where the Neptune statue is). By 7:30, there was live music and several shows that we were able to attend.

The meals were a little limited with our son, but we loved the Greek Restaurant around 13th Street and Rock Fish (Beatles themed restaurant).

All in all, a great place. The only real drawback is access to VA Beach can be hectic at tiimes, through the tunnell and bridge on I 64. A great place for young children.

This will be the only hotel we ever stay at when we vacation in Virginia Beach. Our stay was perfect. We arrived early to the hotel at 2:00pm. They did not have a room available but did give us pool passes and a parking pass and stated they would call when a room came free. We parked went across the street to buy our beach gear and buy the time we got back they called us with a room ready to go. This was only 45 minutes later. Our room was very clean and a perfect set up for our family. We traveled with our 9 and 5 year old. They liked their pull out bed and having their own tv even though we rarely made time for television. The only problem we had was the fridge was froze up. I made one phone call to the front desk and the maintenance replaced it with another fridge that was already very cold. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was amazing. Everything you could want. My kids love the teddy bear waffles that you could make. They had the best hot breakfast of any hotel i have ever stayed at. They had a free mad science show. This was an hour long funny demonstration of science experiments. The host was funny and the kids loved it. The location of the hotel is perfect. There is a nice kids play area in the sand in front of the hotel as well as volleyball courts. We never used our car the whole stay. Everything from restaurants to boat rides were only a few blocks away. This hotel truly allowed us to have a nice stress free vacation.

My husband, myself and my 1 year old stayed here for a couple of nights for my birthday. Overall, experience was good. I thought it was very pricey for a one bedroom suite. We had to have the bedroom suite - as it was our only option to be able to have a door separating the rooms. We needed this to be able to put our baby down to sleep for the night and not have to tip toe around. It served it's purpose well, but for $350/night ($400 with taxes, etc.) - we thought it was way too much. $800 for less than 24 hours........?
Location is good, room was clean, staff was friendly, breakfast good (get down there early), pool was refreshing. One piece of advice if you are looking for a one bedroom suite - they do NOT have the one bedroom suite with a king bed available as advertised on their website. Only 2 queens. I also agree with a previous poster, beds were uncomfortable.
Preferred to stay here over some of the older dank hotels in the area. Would stay here again.
