“Awesome Food!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

OMG, I'm so angry that I've been to VA Beach four times and just found this spot! We had all three empanadas, the Cubano sandwich and skirt steak with chimichurri sauce. Also the traditional mojito and the guava. Everything was fresh and delicious. Skirt steak was crisp on the outside and juicy inside. Pulled pork on the Cubano was flavorful and succulant. If you like Cuba food don't walk, run here!

“You only wish you had a place like this in your garage”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

The Mojito Cafe is a minimalist delight. Eight tables in a room the size of a two-car garage, with the kitchen providing workspace for the cook. Maybe. The Cuban-inspired menu fits on one side of a laminated card, of course augmented by the blackboard that everybody can easily see.

The food itself is really very good. Among the best available in the Oceanfront area. And, when you consider the fact that the food is as good as, and price is maybe half of what you would pay for dinner at Catch 31 or Terrapin nearby (which are admittedly trying for a different experience)...well, if you are hungry, it's an easy choice.

“Never even knew Mojito Cafe was here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014

My wife and I enjoy eating out a lot, so we thought we had been to most of the really good restaurants in Hampton Roads. So when some friends told us about their great experience at Mojito Cafe, we were very interested to try it out. We must have driven or walked past the cafe dozens of times and never even noticed it; it's very small and shares a front entry with another restaurant.

When we stepped inside, it was very busy with a full house and several customers waiting in the tiny entrance. Rather than wait for a table, we opted to dine at the bar. We got to chat with the bartender while she made us delicious mojitos (we had two at the Happy Hour price; it ends at 7:00 pm so make sure you get your order in!). For food, we started with Tostones, crispy fried green plantains; delicious, made even more so with Goya sauce! Main courses were Camarones al Ajillo and Marinated Mahi Tacos, both prepared expertly. A shared dessert was Tres Leches, a little sweet and dry for my taste, but a shot of Ron Zacapa rum helped make up for the let-down.

All in all, it was a great meal, and an enjoyable dining experience. Highly recommended for visitors and locals alike.

“Great food... Great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014 via mobile

The restaurant is small and unpretentious. Our wait for one of the only eight tables wasn't long and with a deck with benches outside the entrance the wait was comfortable. We had the fried plantain appetizer served with an interesting garlic sauce -- very good. The fish tacos and the pulled pork entrees were delicious. The staff was great. It's a fun place and a welcomed change from the pizza, burger or seafood restaurants on Atlantic Ave.

“Awesome!! ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014 via mobile

The food was definitely worth the wait! When we arrived the host told us it would be a 15-20 minute wait to be seated. I guess she estimated because she had just given a table their check and she would seat us there once the table exited. To make it short- the people continued to sit at the table for almost an hour before they left. Some space opened up at the bar before that so we began to order because it was late and we had our children with us. Once the table opened we moved to the table. The reason I am writing about this is because even though I was getting anxious because the group was clearly finished eating, they paid and were just sitting at the table talking, in my opinion they were being unfair to me and all the other people waiting to be seated, however I like the fact that the establishment didn't rush them out because others were waiting because that would have been rude.

Anyhow, the food was AWESOME! So worth it! The empanadas were crunchy on the outside and the beef filing was so yummy! The Ropa Vieja was so flavorful! My favorite was the maduros!! We throughly enjoyed every morsal from this hidden treasure!
