I cannot say enough nice things about the Black Horse Inn. It enjoys an idyllic setting less than an hour from NoVA; so much so that it feels like a different world. The owner took great care in remodeling the house, and has a real gem in Benjamin, the day-to-day Jack of All Trades at Black Horse Inn. He happily led us on a tour of the property, including all the unoccupied rooms, and the extensive and well-maintained grounds. We met the horses, who were happy to have a nuzzle, and the "guard cat" Luray, who could not have been friendlier. A lot of B&B's that are in wine country offer wine and snacks, but even that aspect of our stay was very well thought out. There was white, red, port, sherry, and plates in the fridge with nice crackers, several kinds of cheese, and fruit. Every set of visitors enjoyed them while we were there.
We stayed in the Jeffersonian room (I'm a big history buff) and liked that it wasn't too feminine or masculine. I woke up fairly early, and chose to stroll around the grounds with my coffee, and was only mildly offended when the horses completely ignored me (kidding- Ben later informed me that it was because I did not come bearing food :) ). The breakfast was great- the epitome of southern hospitality.
My husband and I came here for our 10th anniversary, so the $275/night for our room was not too much for us. It was worth every penny. Most of the visitors were from within an hour's drive of the place, which just shows how fabulous it is. Beautiful place to have a wedding, and they even have extra stables for horses. There is plenty to do nearby, also. Warrenton has a lot of quirky shops, great restaurants, and several wineries with 10 minutes of Black Horse Inn. Even though we were there for one night, we left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
