Our second year "visiting" with the McPherson’s was better than our first time. Wonderful accommodations with a fabulous four course gourmet breakfast and the hospitality make this a destination. It was even more fun this year as some of the other guests shared friendships with people we knew. Thought we had been the guests of old friends in their home until it came time to complete the credit card statement!

John and Diane have an absolutely marvelous B & B. We received a tip about the Foster Harris house back in the fall from a wine importer. I was celebrating my birthday at The Inn at Little Washington and we decided to spend the night at Foster Harris. What a wonderful treat.

We were greated with the most wonderful hospitality and all our needs were cared for with joyful simplicity.

The welcome wine and after dinner port was an extra bonus. (And for wine folks -- they use high quality stemware here!)

Breakfast is as awesome as dinner at The Inn -- truly an experience to be treasured.

I don't think excellent comes close to describing what a wonderful place the Foster Harris House is to visit.

We arrived and were warmly greeted and given a tour of the beautifully decorated home. When we say beautiful, I dont mean frilly lace and trinkets, I mean rich, tastful decor that makes you want to take decorating ideas home with you.

We were then offered a glass of wine while relaxing before our dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. For any of you that have tried, making a reservation for dinner at the Inn can be a challenge but if you're staying at the Foster Harris House they take care of everything for you. Foster Harris House is 2 short blocks away from the Inn and is perfect for an evening stroll to dinner. There are also many other restaurants to chose from.

After dinner we came back and enjoyed great conversation and wine with other guests and the innkeepers. A night to remember.

Now if you think you've had a great meal at the Inn the evening before, hold your breath because breakfast is even better. We were spoiled with a 4 course breakfast that was better than any other meal we've had staying at a B&B. I won't ruin the surprise but lets just say I'll be thinking about that for some time to come.

This B&B is such a treasure and is a must stay at if you live in Virginia or are visting.

The Foster Harris House is the perfect bed & breakfast, run by the perfect hosts, with perfect attention to detail. John & Diane MacPherson's love of their work shows in every detail of your stay -- from their gracious hospitality down to the fine details like turn-down service. Nothing could be better.

For those folks from DC or other similar hectic cities, this is the perfect place to 'slow down' a little and unwind. (But for those of you who can't bear to be away from your computers, the house is wi-fi.) If great after-dinner conversation with the hosts isn't your thing, there are movies, books, and games available.

The quiet Meadow View room is beautifully furnished and includes cozy flannel sheets and fluffy pillows. The bathroom has a rainfall shower and is outfitted with the softest cotton towels and L'Occitane toiletries. Both the bedroom and the bathroom have beautiful views of the meadows and mountains.

To die for is the beautifully presented gourmet four-course breakfast (as one example, fresh homemade croissants, a fruit parfait, puff pastry with a poached egg and avocado salsa, and lemon liebchen with raspberry sauce). In fact, I enjoyed the breakfast every bit as much as (if not more than) my dinner at the Inn at Little Washington.

You can't go wrong booking a reservation at the Foster Harris House.

If you are looking for a beuatiful place to unwind and relax not far from Washington DC and just outside Shenandoah National Park, then the Foster Harris House is a must. Beautiful house, charming rooms, a 4 course breakfast to die for, and the warmest hospitality you could hope for. Great area dining including the Inn at Little Washington, beautiful Rapahanock County, Skyline Drive, local vineyards, great hiking and cycling...what more could you ask for? Our three night stay was just perfect and the Inn Keepers, John and Diane made us feel like family. The Foster Harris House is most highly recommended. Can't wait for our next visit.
