Our recent stay at the Foster Harris House was probably the most enjoyable B&B experience we've ever had. We give John and Diane five stars for their thoughtful, smart approach to running an inn. It was the little things, like complementary use of their cordless phone, the blue "spa" towel in the bathroom for makeup removal, and the first-rate bike rental that got our attention. They've built a reputation around their incredible breakfast, and it certainly did not dissapoint. Truly, this is a modern approach to inn hospitality that doesn't lose its old- fashioned charm. We've already decided to return next fall.

We went to the town of Little Washington to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversiary. We pulled into the Foster Harris House around 5:30PM on August 23rd 2006. John greeted us at the door and showed us around the house. He then helped me with our luggage. He escorted us to our room and offered to get us something to drink (I had a beer and my wife had a ice water). He then gave us the details about our dinner that night at the Inn (which they made the reservation for) and told us some good inside information (have cocktails before dinner, have dessert out on the patio afterwards, etc.).

The room was very comfortable (not too busy but just right). The bathroom was pretty big and the shower was very modern (great water pressure and awesome shower head). The bed was great...the mattress was more comfortable than what we have at home.

We went to the Inn for dinner which was an awesome experience...the next morning we had another awesome dining experience (John's cooking!). He prepared a 4 course meal that was just incredible...I am still thinking about that rasberry chipolte bacon!! There was 1 other couple that stayed there the same night we did...and we enjoyed talking with them over breakfast. We got to meet John's wife Diane at breakfast.

We would definitely recommend the Foster Harris House to everyone! The little things are what seperates it from other B&B's....like John helping with luggage, dinner reservations & tips, getting a drink when we check in, and having water avialable. John and Diane are definitely the main reason that the Foster Harris house is to special though...they know how to run a B&B and make their guests feel welcome and special.

If you are going to Little Washington then make sure you check out the Foster Harris House cause you will defintely enjoy your stay there.

I was looking for a unique place to celebrate my engagement and I decided to have dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. I planned to stay at the Inn as well but, when I called, I found that it was sold-out - what luck! They recommended Foster-Harris as an alternative place to stay and I'm THRILLED that they did. The house is fantastic - the interior design is impeccable, the rooms were comfortable, the bed was luxurious and the breakfast in the morning honestly rivaled the food at the Inn from the night before - John is one hell of a chef. Overall I can't recommend it highly enough; you will love your time at Foster Harris.

My wife and I stayed at the Foster Harris house for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! John and Diane do a fantastic job making sure you are well taken care of. Little Washington is a beautiful area with so much more to do than simply dining at the Inn at Little Washington. There are many other wonderful places to eat and visit including some great vineyards.

If you like being active there is plenty to do. We went on several hikes in the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains including Old Rag Mountain and the beautiful White Oak Canyon water falls. We also did some cycling which was a great way to explore the area and see more of the beautiful countryside and charming towns. You don’t even have to worry about bringing your own bike as they have some very nice, new bikes for rent.

Of course, the Foster Harris House is also a great place to relax. The rooms are well appointed and the beds are very comfortable. We enjoyed a wonderful glass of wine (or two) while relaxing on the porch or on the Adirondack chairs out back each evening before going to dinner. (John and Diane made some great recommendations) Perhaps our favorite time of the day, however, was breakfast which was absolutely amazing. Each morning John prepares an amazing four course breakfast that rivals any meal you will eat anywhere.

We had a great time, have recommended the Foster Harris house to many of our friends and can’t wait to go back again!

From the moment you arrive it feels as if you are visiting old friends-who just happen to be gourmet cooks, know all the best places to dine or visit in the area (complete with maps and insider parking hints), and anticipate your every need. We stayed in April on a spring getaway from the lingering gray winter of Boston. The Foster Harris House is in a beautiful setting with farms, roliing peaceful countryside, and views of the mountains. The rooms are elegant and intelligently designed-whenever you need something it seems to be right there. The breakfasts are fabulous, prepared from scratch (even croissant!) from the freshest ingredients by John, a self taught, creative wonder. We wanted to cycle and the area has smooth, traffic free roads that are ideal for cyclists of all levels. John took us on one of the most beautiful rides we've ever done that was punctuated by lunch at one of the local vineyards. Others guests wanted to hike and Diane helped them with detailed instructions for trails that were nearby the B&B, which is perfecly situated for any activity-from just sitting in the peaceful Adirondack chairs enjoying the relaxing adjacent meadow/ mountain views to more active pursuits. Diane and John have high standards and everything from the from the bathroom toiletries to the complimentary sherry and chocolates are of the highest quality. As an added friendly convenience, they provde access to an internet connected computer for those who can't leave their day jobs behind and free use of their telephone. We can't say enough about Diane and John and the Foster Harris House-and have been telling all our friends about this can't miss jewel.
