It's hard to adequately describe the experience at the Foster Harris House. Imagine the most welcoming place you've ever stayed and multiply that by ten. Diane and John MacPherson are truly gracious hosts. Their love of their work, and their joy in welcoming guests comes through in every detail. The Suite was beautifully decorated and supremely comfortable with a lovely view of the hills. The four-course breakfasts are like a work of art -- the food is fresh, colorful and beautifully presented. It was probably the best B&B experience in all my years of travel -- just like staying with good friends.

What a delightful experience!! The accommodations and lovely family were their to welcome us into their home. The champagne greeting, fabulous breakfast, superb suite and l'Occitane amenities were all TOP NOTCH.
As a seasoned 5+ Star traveler, I was impressed by all of the special touches.
We'll be back this spring for the epicurean tour and make New Years at the Foster Harris house a tradition. P.S. The 4- course breakfast was SPECTACULAR!! Truly a memorable experience to be repeated!!

I found the Foster Harris House B&B by doing a search of Washington, VA.

My intent was to treat my wife to a dinner at the Inn at Little Washington for a very special birthday we were celebrating. I was unable to get overnight accomodations at the Inn. I selected FHH after a web search of Washington, VA. The web site afforded me the opportunity to preview and select the room of choice. The promise of a four course breakfast was the determining factor that locked me in. That got us there but what will keep us coming back is the warmth and wonderful hospitality we experienced from our hosts Diane and John. From the moment we arrived - a little early - until we left - and we didn't want to leave - we were made to feel special. We had the Compton Room featuring a wonderful Tuscan tiled "rain shower" with prompted multiple cleansings! The queen bed was comfortable and the sitting area generous, sporting a couch and chair that invited relaxtion. Our breakfast was wonderful, carrying over the culinary experience of the previous night's dinner at the Inn. The breakfast was as tasteful to the eye as to the pallet. A perfect way to bring our unexpected but wonderful experience to an end. We will find opportunities to return to the area just to re-experience the warmth and graciousness of our hosts, Diane & John.

The Foster-Harris House is such a pleasant place to stay.John & Diane aim to please.Because there is limited cell phone coverage, they provide free long distance access for you.Breakfast was wonderful, though we weren't wild about having a set time to be there---9 a.m. Stella, the yellow lab, is so sweet. Make sure you play fetch with her.

This place is truly top-notch. John and Diane are excellent hosts and see to it that all of your needs are met. The house and rooms are very cozy and comfortable. This is definately a great place to come and relax. The four-course gourmet breakfast rivals the dinners served at "The Inn" down the street. I really can't wait to come back for another visit.!!

Our recent stay at the Foster Harris House was probably the most enjoyable B&B experience we've ever had. We give John and Diane five stars for their thoughtful, smart approach to running an inn. It was the little things, like complementary use of their cordless phone, the blue "spa" towel in the bathroom for makeup removal, and the first-rate bike rental that got our attention. They've built a reputation around their incredible breakfast, and it certainly did not dissapoint. Truly, this is a modern approach to inn hospitality that doesn't lose its old- fashioned charm. We've already decided to return next fall.
