Room to spread out in the rooms, extremely friendly and helpful staff, great breakfasts with a good range of food, pizza delivery to the door possible, really close to Williamsburg, free shuttles to Busch Gardens and Water Country. Plus their own pool on site. For me and a 10 year old, what's not to like?!

We traveled to Williamsburg via Amtrak and chose Governor's Inn not only for its reasonable price but because it is within walking distance of Amtrak and Colonial Williamsburg. It would be an even shorter walk from Amtrak except the Post Office chained-off parking lot blocks what would be a perfect cut-through. You'll have to walk a block around the post office and then across the tracks to get to Governor's Inn. About a 10 minute walk at most. The walk is easy with well-maintained sidewalks the entire distance.

The Colonial area of Williamsburg is only about 4 blocks away. We walked it several times but decided to take a cab from the colonial section of town to Governor's Inn after dark. The cab fare from Market Square at the end of Duke of Gloucester St. to the Inn was less than $4.00.

About accommodations at the Inn: The hotel is advertised as "budget" but it is well maintained. The grounds were well kept and the room clean. No bed bugs - Yes, I checked the mattress when I got there. The furniture was basic and in good condition. Towels were thick and we were provided with shampoo and body lotion. There was a continental breakfast in the morning that was adequate but the pastries were a tad dry and the coffee could have been fresher.

After a day of walking and fresh air, I slept like a rock. We were situated on the far side of the hotel away from the railroad tracks and were not bothered by train noise. If you're sensitive to such, you may wish to request a room away from the tracks. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Checkout time was 11:00 AM but our train wasn't leaving until 5:30 PM. They gladly kept our luggage behind the counter so that we wouldn't have to drag it through town all day.

One item of note: The Colonial Williamsburg website led me to believe that the shuttle bus would come to this hotel. It only comes to the hotel when Busch Gardens is open and it comes "on the hour". The shuttle takes you to the Visitors Center where you can board a different bus to either Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, or Jamestown. You'll need to confirm that Busch Gardens is open to determine if the shuttle to the visitors center will be running when you're there.

If you do book at Governors Inn - or any of the Colonial Williamsburg operated hotels - wait until you are checking in to get your passes to Colonial Williamsburg as they offer a discounted rate.

Room Tip: Room away from the track are quieter. You may want to request a ground floor room as I didn't se...

I enjoyed my recent stay at the Governor's Inn, just outside Colonial Williamsburg. The Governor's Inn is actually part of CW, and staying there enabled some discounts on tickets for CW events. This was a nice perk. Our room was, according to the woman who checked us in, recently renovated. The carpet felt clean. The bathroom was nice. I normally detest taking a shower in a motel, but I had no problem with this one. The bed was comfortable. We were only a five minute walk away from Colonial Williamsburg. I had forgotten my thyroid medicine at home, and there was a CVS pharmacy very close by where I was able to fill my prescription. The Governor's Inn is in a perfect location--very close to CW but also near "real world" stores and restaurants if needed. The complimentary breakfast was a very nice, money-saving convenience. We had breakfast each morning before walking over to CW. Our visit was in September, so the breakfast room was not too crowded. I will definitely stay at the Governor's Inn in the future. After reading some of the other reviews, I want to make a mental note to request a room just like the one we had on this trip—two double beds, ground floor, all the way around in the back of the motel. We had no problems. Loved it.

Room Tip: Ask for a recently renovated room.

With the conversion of the Williamsburg Hospitality House to student housing during the summer of 2013, the Governor's Inn remains as one of the few hotels within reasonable walking distance to the College of William & Mary and Colonial Williamsburg, and probably the most affordable. We stayed here during the College's Family Weekend and chose it because of its relatively reasonable price and location, which allowed us to walk to the college campus. We had a handicapped-accessible room (which we did not specifically request), which had a large bathroom space that probably reduced the size of the bedroom. Our room had a queen-sized bed; we were told that the other types of rooms had double beds. There was a refrigerator in the bathroom and a coffee maker in the bedroom. The room was fine for our purposes. The free continental breakfast was typical for a hotel of this type.

For only $60 a night I really did not expect much, but this hotel exceed my expectations. It is walking distance from Colonial Williamsburg and even provides a free shuttle bus to Busch Gardens. Since we were guests of the hotel we were also able to receive discount tickets for Colonial Williamsburg. They had a free buffet breakfast and if you buy any souvenirs throughout the day they deliver them to the front desk for you. My only complaint was when we arrived we found a few spiders in the room, leaving me to believe it hadn't been cleaned in a while, but as soon as we killed them we had no other issues.

Despite the grandiose name, the Governors Inn is really just a motel. The staff were super nice, especially when explaining about the passes available for Williamsburg attractions. Free continental breakfast is just what you expect--and massively crowded with families. Motel is conveniently lcated just outside the Colonial area. Room was just average; value for the money was good. Extremely thin walls/connecting door meant I could hear every word being said next door.

This was our 2nd stay at the governors inn. It's hard to believe you can get a halfway decent hotel for $60 anywhere much less within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg old town. The rooms are clean & comfortable. It's not super modern or updated but I'd rather have it that way and still be affordable. The kids especially loved the pool. The adults loved that we could walk a few blocks to the old town area. The ladies at the desk were helpful & friendly. AND on top of all of that, there was a free breakfast! The food was well stocked & there was a nice selection. My one & only complaint was it was very busy & chaotic at bfast. There was additional seating upstairs but not additional food. That would have alleviated the wait time. Overall that wasn't a big deal & we will definitely be back providing they keep the prices reasonable.
