Description: Fast – Delicious – Affordable. Signature items include french fries cut fresh daily, and real dairy custard, frozen on site daily. Said to have the best hot dogs in town, one can load up with a choice of fourteen toppings which, in addition to the old standards, include blue cheese cole slaw and sweet potato mustard! With cheeseburgers, BBQ, our grilled chicken sandwich (think State Fair) and fresh salads, there is something here to please everyone in your group!

“Cheap eats in Historic Area”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

My husband and I ate here for dinner. We both got cheeseburgers and french fries. He got the chili cheese fries with his and I got the plain cheese fries with mine. One word of warning - the cheese is more like a cheese sauce, although it is still pretty tasty. The food wS basic but still delicious. The custard was delicious as were the funnel cake fries. This would probably be best for families with young children (hard to be picky about burgers and fries) or anyone looking for cheap, tasty eats in the Merchants Square area.

“Great hidden Gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

In a place where overpriced and underwhelming food choices are abundant, we found this little gem, an old fashioned type of malt shop. We were looking for an inexpensive and light afternoon snack because we were scheduled to eat dinner with family. Walking around Merchant Square we checked the menus for at least half a dozen cafes/bistros, etc. You could not even get an appetizer for under 10.00. We stumbled upon Retro and found exactly what we were looking for. 2 delicious grilled ham and cheese sandwiches on Texas toast and a bowl of homemade creamy tomato soup for 12.00. The menu reflects prices of years give by. It's not fancy, in fact, it's quite the opposite. But it's a great place for lunch, all beef hot dogs, burgers, etc. and even Blue Plate Specials for under 10.00. We had the opportunity to chat with other patrons and they too seemed to be impressed by the quality and the prices. I am not sure what happened during the visits if some of the previous posts, but the counter service was fine and our food came out quickly.

“Retro but not historic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

We had been struggling to find a place to eat that didn't have ridiculous wait times and a menu that all of us in our party could find something to eat. We literally stumbled upon this place and had great food that was tasteful and reasonably priced. It was a hot day and the added bonus of getting some ice cream was enjoyed by all. I am still being teased that we were in colonial Williamsburg and ate at the least colonial restaurant. The people were very nice and efficient. It was a nice place to stop in and get a bite.

“Good food at cheap prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2014

Ate here as a family of four and total bill came to $27 which included a beer and a specialty root beer. We all enjoyed our food: grilled cheese with fries, veggie quesadilla, BLT and BBQ sandwich. Service was very fast. Great for a simple and yummy lunch with the family.

Diner atmosphere - great food and great prices. Great fries and the best pulled pork sandwich around! Fun for the kids, too!
