Went to the new JLG (James Landing Grill) at Kngsmill Marina Sunday for lunch. I life in Kingsmill and have been to the old version before this spring's remodel.

The food is good, about the same menu as the old marina restaurant. I had the hamburger that some other reviewers described. Much better than their experience. Mine was tasty and cooked correctly.

The new building is beautiful. My only question on the new design is: why are the restrooms upstairs? Oh, yeah. The restrooms are up a flight of stairs and 80% of the tables are downstairs.

Service was bad. Really bad. But, I'm thinking that is just because it has all new staff. I believe the service will inprove with time. The other restaurants in Kingsmill have wonderful staff.

Go to JLG (James Landing Grille) for the views of the James River, the food, and expect some growing pains with the young/inexperienced staff. Don't sulk. Ask for what you need. I'll go back.

Same old location...but "new" building at the same location on the marina in Kingsmill. Walked in on Tuesday, 6/26/12. They asked if we had a reservation for dinner...we said no. Hostess said it would be an hour to an hour and half wait for a table. That's CORRECT...ONE HOUR to ONE HOUR and a HALF wait for a table. We went to the bar and seats were open...plenty. We also saw that MANY inside AND outside tables were open to seating...they just did not have enough help to seat patrons at. This was on their second day of opening. PATHETIC. About 6 minutes later the buzzer went off for a table ...how does a table suddenly open if it was an hour and a half wait? REALLY?? The bar staff looked like they were 10 years old and had the knowledge of the same. Whatever. Ordered a bottle of wine. Then, ordered 2 simple American "Kobe" burgers. Medium. They came out. No onion, tomato, lettuce as they state on the menu. BLOOD was leaking out of the burger and the cheese was so freakin melted on them it was almost water. They looked "good".(gross) Salad dressing(ranch) was SOOOOO watered down it was almost pale and had NO taste. Ate some of the miserable burger. We could not take the blood running out and the bun being so "wet" with gross blood/water/juice. Told the waitress...she told the manager and he took it off the bill. Thanks for nothing. Their "live music" could not be heard inside the bar area...need to turn up the speakers or relocate the band. Lighting was so bright/harsh in the bar.

TERRIBLE service...TERRIBLE food...TERRIBLE music...TERRIBLE atmospere.

Spend your money elseware...this place is a joke. D-.

We are residents of Kingsmill and have dined here many, many times over the years.

The Marina Restaurant is open to all. You do not have to be staying at the resort or living at Kingsmill to enjoy the good food and atmosphere here.

There is outside seating that overlooks the the James River(that does not do anything for us, but that is our opinion). Patrons are usually dressed in nice, resort wear. There has been nightly entertainment in the evening hours. It ranges from Jimmy Buffet type music to more traditional. It goes hand in hand with the outdoor seating.
The food is good...we love the burgers. They are so big they are meals in themselves.
$ range on the menu is about $7.00 to $16.00 or so. Open for lunch on weekends too. It can get hot in the Tidewater summer, but the tables have umbrellas...but there is nothing you can do about the high humidity :)

It's an enjoyable place to spend a few hours.

I believe many are unaware that they can enjoy dining outside at the Kingsmill Marina next to the James River. The restaurant is not limited to Resort Guests or Residents and is worth drive for people within in the Hampton Roads area. Everytime I have gone (at least 6 times this summer) there has been quality musical entertainment to go along with the very good food. Be aware that it is popular and reservations are not taken, so plan on a reasonalbe wait while enjoying the music and scenery or at the bar.
