“Disappointed”

We traded our hyatt week for a 2 bedroom at Wyndham. Things started off on the wrong foot immediately. We arrived and they did not have our room - we could either stay in a 3 bedroom and move rooms, or change to a nearby older property. We were told several diffent stories - from "maintance issues" to "a 3rd party overbook" We chose the 3 bedroom. We wasted most of the next day waiting for the other room.

It's clear Wyndham has cut corners and cost to the bone. We had problems with the air conditioning, stove, refridgerator, shower heads, etc. There is no mid week cleaning service.

We had a second floor room - and the noise from upstairs was terrible. And the folks in the room next to us started signing gospel at ful volume at 10pm. Crazy.

We were really ut off by the hard sell of their timeshare. Even while we were trying to chek in they were getting us setup for a sales appointment. We a used to sitting through the pitch for a freebie. But this was e worst - they asked for 8 referrals.

Maybe we are spoiled by Hyatt - but we would Never, ever stay or recommend a Wyndham. Terrible.

We booked and paid for our reservation for 10 family members eight months in advance of our intended stay here. We received a confirmation of our reservation two weeks ago. We arrived at 2 pm on the appointed date and were told we could not check in until 4 pm, but when 4 pm came, we were told that the resort was overbooked and we could not stay there, despite the fact that we had already paid. The hotel staff said it was not their fault. 90 minutes later, after much argument, the hotel staff managed to find three rooms at a nearby Residence Inn, which has been very nice but not what we were expecting. I would not trust your reservation here - who knows if they will actually honor it when you arrive, since even a pre-paid reservation apparently isn't enough of a guarantee.

We did not stay here but we booked their clubhouse room (Equestrian Room) for a family reunion party (~40 people). The staff was very helpful with our preparation for the party and the facility was perfect for the party. They provided tables, chairs, table cloths, video projector and screen. There was a small kitchen area for food prep and cleanup. The room was near the pool so there was some noise outside. This wasn't a problem for us because there's always lots of talking and laughing when our family get's together!

By the way we had Carrabba's cater the party and they did a great job. You can look up my review under the Williamsburg Carrabba's page.

This resort is a great place for a family stay. The rooms are huge, the kitchen is well stocked with usable cookware, the beds are super comfortable and the service is excellent. But, there are no icemachines or restaurant onsite, they are within close driving distance though. There is no clubhouse for adults, if you want a beer on tap its a little farther drive,( NOT A GOOD IDEA), I was there in April and the pool had to be drained, the heater fixed and cleaned while I was there so the indoor pool was still cold. All the major attractions are super close, Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Busch Gardens are just a few. So, if you can remember to turn the icemaker on when you get there and make do with bottled beer this is an excellent place to bring your family.

Room Tip: get the size you need

We spent Memorial Day Week-end at Governor's Green with friends. We were in Unit 2225, which is one of the units that has not been renovated yet. The furniture is a bit worn, but the unit and linens were clean and our beds were still comfortable. We did not have loud neighbors, so did not hear any noise above, beside or below us. ( A note to those who complain about noise: It doesn't matter how insulated shared walls are, if you are unfortunate enough to have noisy neighbors, you will hear them. We have stayed in very high end hotels and had such an experience when others have said in reviews that the rooms are very quiet.)

On Memorial Day Week-end and the entire resort was decorated in American Flags, an American Flag was placed in a gift bag of travel products, and they even gave us red & white carnations for our units that I put in a blue pool glass. The person at the parking pass table that usually tries to get you to sign up for a "tour" said that someone would be by with a gift about 1/2 hour after we moved in. That person suggested that we go to a" free breakfast or lunch to learn about updates" for a gift card. We told them that we "absolutely were not interested and just wanted to have a relaxing week-end". We did not get one call after that. (Come on people, if you stay in ANY timeshare, you have to be strong. If you are tempted by a gift card of whatever amount, don't blame them for reeling you in. We love staying at timeshares and enjoying all that extra space, but you have to be strong and tell them that you absolutely are not interested in any gift and that you want to have a pleasant vacation without that hassle. Trust me, it works!)

Governor's Green is in a perfect quiet location to do anything in Williamsburg. There are just enough extra activities offered on resort, although I have a feeling many people don't take advantage of these because there is too much to do off resort in Williamsburg. We have stayed at Patriot Place, Kingsgate, Greensprings, Powhatan Plantation, and Fords Colony in Williamsburg and Governors Green is far better than any of the other timeshare resorts. The units are very spacious, towels are ample, employees are friendly, even older units are clean if worn, but they are renovatin the resort and we were lucky enough to stay in one of the renovated units last summer. I would highly recommend staying at Governor's Green if you are visiting Willliamsburg and you are able to get in.

This was our first time staying at the G. Green and thought it was very nice. The grounds were very pretty and our rooms looked out on the pond, which had ducks and turtles. We really enjoyed the adults only pool area for a quiet hot tub soak after a day of biking. The bed was really comfortable. We stayed on a ground level room and did not experience any disruptive noise and there were plenty of people around. We were able to rent a movie in the activity center, which was nice. If there is anything negative to say, it would only be that the sofa seemed a bit older and kind of worn, I understand that they will soon be updating the interiors so I am sure that will be remedied soon. Not a deal breaker. As for whether there was a high pressure sales pitch: We're timeshare owners, and were asked to schedule an appointment for a review of our plan. We ended up canceling the appointment later, with no further requests. So no high pressure experienced by us. We' d go back next time we were in town.

We booked through our time-share get-away program so got a super rate. First, it is not a hotel, it is a condo complex. The property is lovely and only a few miles from the historic area which was our goal. It would be great for families in the summer as there is lots to do right at the resort. The only downside was the sales pitch. We didn't have to subject ourselves to it but couldn't pass up the $75 gift card to do so! Even so we felt the pressure was rather excessive.

Room Tip: As far as I could see all the units are good.
