“Usual reliable Hampton Inn quality”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

Predictably reliable Hampton Inn - clean, comfortable, friendly service. We (unfortunately!) had to also stay in the Hampton Inn Central on this trip, and this one is far superior and more representative of what you expect when you decide to stay in a Hampton Inn.

This may be my shortest review ever because in this instance all I want to do is let the world know that THE MANAGER DUSTIN (there are the three words) was awesome. He was extremely accommodating to me and my family with regards to our reservation and stay. Thank you, Dustin, for all your help and professionalism! Cheers.

Good spot to stay if you are visiting the area. Short drive to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg and other attractions that you come to the area to see. Didn't explore what is within walking distance of the hotel but could hit most of the attractions with a 5-10 minute drive. Breakfast was nice but busy - no biggie though as they opened an extra room up to handle the overflow. The rooms are what you'd expect - clean, good beds and not noisy. The pool was good and not really crowded. Would stay here again on our next trip.

Room Tip: The ground floor was nice - not noisy and you can avoid having to use the elevator (and a short walk...

We have had to travel a lot lately, gold member for Hilton properties...I can really only compare our stay to other Hampton Inns the past two years. Beds were not as comfortable as most, just harder and not the nicer kind. My biggest complaint were twofold...the room we were originally assigned to was a connecting room, the family next door (don't think they were necessarily so loud, but it sounded like they were in the room with us) made it tough to stay in that room. In over 40 stays in a year, I have only asked to change rooms once (due to smoking smells in non-smoking room)...this was the second time. So, advice, make sure NOT to get an adjoining room unless you want to hear everything. The second complaint was the toilet paper...I have stayed at 2 other Hampton Inns since our stay here, so it was definitely limited to this facility, but it was the worst toilet paper I've ever had...Scott Tissue is Charmin compared to what they used here...that needs to change asap!
Now, the good! The receptionist was kind but not the most friendly, but good. The servers at breakfast were really nice and tried to help often. There were not enough tables for breakfast, so they opened up a conference room, wonderful idea and it meant our family was able to eat together which means a lot to us on vacation! The room was clean and spacious, the fold out bed was NOT comfortable...how many are? I think I'd just pack a foam mattress pad to put on top of it honestly if we ever have to use it again, my 6'3 son just slept on the couch, much more comfortable for him even scrunched up.
Overall, I'd give it a 4, sounds worse than it is, I just hope my comments can help improve visits for future guests...nice location..lots of eateries nearby. And maybe if I keep complaining about the powdered egg options they give at this chain, they'll switch to something better...it's just horrible...but do appreciate the boiled egg option!

This hotel was in a great location for a Williamsburg visit. The breakfast was well stocked and the staff did a great job of keeping the dining room clean. This was a busy place in the morning. Good value for the money.

I've stayed in this hotel twice. Both times for Busch Gardens visits. Conveiniently located to the park. Staff is very friendly, room was clean (I would recommend getting the larger room when traveling with children) and breakfast was decent.
Definitely ask for a room away from the elevators to avoid being disturbed by the utter chaos of those making an early departure.
Busch Gardens is an annual trip and I plan on making next years reservations here! The only thing I'm disappointed about, which is out of the hotel's control, is that there isn't a selection of restaurants within walking distance.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near elevators.

The Hilton standard of quality was well represented in this Hampton Inn. It was remodeled in the last year consistent with current Hilton branding and is being well maintained.

Start with location. Just a 5 minute car trip on non-congested roads to the back entrance to the parking at the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center. About a 10 minute drive to Water Country USA. About 2 minutes to the Bypass Rd to go over to all the restaurants on Richmond Rd.

Our first floor room 131 was about halfway down the hall to the right of the lobby. We had a Suite with 2 Queen beds and a queen sofa bed. Plenty of room for us and our two grandchildren, although the 10 yr old grandson took note of the springs on the sofa bed. The queen beds were fine. There were extra pillows, and they included both feather and foam. Furnishings were in good condition with a few blemishes, but clean. Housekeeping was spotless. The bath was a small room with the tub/shower and the toilet. Ventilation was poor and the humidity built quickly and dissipated slowly when 4 people took showers in succession. The bathroom sink is outside the bathroom, in an alcove off the main room. In the closet there is also a good size safe (large enough for a laptop and other electronics and cameras.

Only issue was with light from a floodlight just outside one of our two windows (illuminating the front of the hotel). The blackout curtains wouldn't stay completely closed; we used a plastic clip designed for closing bags of potato chips to hold the curtains together.

Breakfast: Super satisfactory breakfast of juices, fruits, breads and bagels, oatmeal, dry cereals, and make your own waffles. In addition, there were scrambled eggs (probably powdered; the kids didn't care for them) and either sausage, bacon, or biscuits and gravy (varied each day). The hotel staff were very friendly and worked diligently to keep food stocked. We ate each morning between 7:30 and 8, and had little wait to make waffles and no trouble with seating in a very attractive area. But, come much later, and expect waits. It appeared they opened a nearby meeting room as overflow breakfast seating.

We noticed each evening that groups of people had gathered in the "breakfast" area enjoying food they brought in for dinner. There is coffee, tea and hot chocolate available at all hours in this area.

Parking: Adequate free parking is available.

WiFi: Best WiFi connection/speed I've ever encountered in a hotel! And it is free!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side of the hotel to avoid parking lot noise and the floodlight front.
