I checked in on a Friday night left a day early on Monday morning (planned on leaving Tuesday morning). The staff seemed very pleasant and the facilities were very clean an well maintained. Bathrooms and showers were very clean.....But. the tent sites are extremely small and no space between tent sites. The sites have hardly any grass, all hard dirt and sand. And to top it all off there's a railroad track at most 20 feet from the cramped campsite. Trains were going through about once every hour to an hour and a half all day and all night. It was so close my tent was shaking when the went by. Also the charged extra for having a 2nd vehicle yet they Had nowhere to park it. The only place to park is directly in front of your campsite and the campsite is only as wide as an F 150 is long. What a joke. Don't bother camping here.

We really enjoyed taking care of you and your family last week! We appreciate your input, your business, and the opportunity to have you as our guest!
If we had known your displeasure we would have refunded your money after your first night. We are glad you chose to camp with us for three nights. We were happy to accommodate your group on your last day of camping.
We pride ourselves in being the best. We have the best customer service, the best utility pedestals, the best WIFI, the best location, and we our cable is brand new after a complete overhaul of our system.
Anvil Campground has been here since 1954. For 60 years and three generations, we have provided great family memories for tens of thousands of families. Our customer service will never be beat, because there is nothing that we will not do to make our guests happy. There is a train track that runs through Williamsburg itself and can be heard at Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, other Williamsburg attractions, shopping areas, residences, hotels, and campgrounds. For nearly every one of our guests the train is not an issue, if it ever is we do everything in our power to make a guest happy by moving them to another site farther away from the train track. There is no set schedule for when the train will pass. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me directly and I will be glad to speak with you.

Very nice, quaint, quiet campground. Easily accessible to all attractions. Staff are amazing. Bus service is great if you don't feel like driving and paying for parking. Nice pool and playground for little ones if you need it. A little tight for the RV spaces, but for us it was mainly a parking spot with having some dinner and a campfire in the evening. I would recommend and stay there again.

I stayed in the blacksmith cabin with several friends for my birthday weekend. The cabin had more than enough room for me and my 5 friends. The cabin was clean and was adjacent to the shuttle stop. The periodic train noise didn't bother me one bit. The campground staff was really accommodating and friendly and willing to answer any questions I had. The only con I can think of is the parking situation. There isn't a clear parking lot for visitors or groups with several cars. Also the 2 cabins were kind of close together. Other than that I was in love with this cabin.

On the plus side the staff is amazing and it is very clean...on the downside the rent sites are separated from the railroad track by a small ravine and a thin later of trees. It feels like the train is coming right through tent and at multiple come throughs a night (like midnight and 4am) that is a big downside. Sadly, pretty as it is we will not be back. I recommenced you skip this unless you love trains and/or have a well soundproofed rv.

My husband and I and our two children only stayed one night and we really did not spend much time at the campground, we were there to set up tent went to Busch Gardens and came back to sleep and shower. With that being said I can not give a complete review. The bath house was fairly clean and the campground was tidy and the little interaction I had with the staff was pleasant, however the tent sites are next to a train track, and the train ran all night long, at least every hour and a half. We were exhausted from a whole day at BG and even with being that tired it was impossible to sleep through the train. It was a terrible night of sleep and I can not imagine how one could get use to hearing it barrel through. I'm not one to typically write reviews but feel that as a tent camper it is only fair to warn other tent campers that you may want to reconsider this camp ground due to the train.

Recently bought a used 18 ft hybrid travel trailer and this was my first time taking it out. Stayed at Anvil for 2 nights. Very clean, well kept site. Has a well stocked camp supply store/check-in facility. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Used the pool which was clean. Bathrooms are clean. Has 3 playground areas for the little ones. Bus stops at Anvil but wasn't personally needed. Campground is close to Premium Outlets, downtown Williamsburg and Busch Gardens. The train is loud but no big deal and my 3 yo son loved it.

My husband and I stayed at Anvil Campground 5/23/14 to 5/26/14. We have a 31 foot motorhome and found the site to be very comfortable. We had a full hook-up.
We didn't tow a car, so we found that being located on the local bus line very convenient. One day we took the bus to Busch Gardens and another day took it to Colonial Williamsburg. No problems. We were within walking distance to several restaurants. On one of our walks back to the campground from Capt George's Seafood Buffet, we found a bike trail. We took the trail the next morning to Waller's Mill Pond. It was a nice bike trail leading to a park.
There are railroad tracks close to the tenting side of the campground, but after awhile, you don't notice the trains. We were on the highway side of the campground and yes, there was road noise, but again, after awhile you didn't notice it.
What really made this a great place was the people that ran the campground. They were so kind and wanted to be sure you get the best experience. The pool was clean, there were always children playing at the playgrounds, people were walking dogs and visiting. It was just a great all around atmosphere. I would recommend this campground and feel that my family will return for another visit.
