“Impeccably clean”
Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

Staff are exceptional! Called me back to help me with alternate directions when my cell phone dropped the call in heavy traffic on I-64. Got me out of the traffic and to the campground effortlessly. Tight parking (we camped in a 40' FW) but doable. On the pricey side, but the five star service makes you forget you just paid almost $100 a night for a gravel pad (perfectly level) and no grass in a premium site. Pool was super clean, arcade was super clean. Everything- super clean. Train noise was not noticeable after the first couple of times it went by. You get used to it- but it's no kidding within 50 feet of some of the sites. Would stay here again because of the staff for sure!

Anvil Campground is a 2013 winner of a "Certificate of Excellence" from TripAdvisor! We rank in the top 10% of all businesses on TripAdvisor!
We really enjoyed taking care of you and your family last week! We appreciate your input, your business, and the opportunity to have you as our guest!
We pride ourselves in being the best. We have the best customer service, the best utility pedestals, the best WIFI, the best location, and we our cable is brand new after a complete overhaul of our system.
Anvil Campground has been here since 1954. For 60 years and three generations, we have provided great family memories for tens of thousands of families. Our customer service will never be beat, because there is nothing that we will not do to make our guests happy. There is a train track that runs through Williamsburg itself and can be heard at Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, other Williamsburg attractions, shopping areas, residences, hotels, and campgrounds. For nearly every one of our guests the train is not an issue, if it ever is we do everything in our power to make a guest happy by moving them to another site farther away from the train track. There is no set schedule for when the train will pass. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me directly and I will be glad to speak with you.

We booked the Blacksmith Cottage for our 4 day stay in Williamsburg. My daughter is stationed at Ft Eustis so we took a family vacation to see her over the 4th of July. This campground is wonderful. The cottage was amazing. Plenty of room for 6 people. My only complaint would be that the cots they have for 2 people to sleep on need to be upgraded, maybe have another futon in the living room, as those cots are not very comfortable. Other than that we were able to cook as a family and actually spend time together. There were horseshoe pits and a basketball court right next to the cabin so we enjoyed those as a family. The pool was a wonderful retreat from the heat of Virginia. The staff are absolutely amazing. When we arrived there was a hurricane that was a possibility to make it that far north so of course we were worried about the fireworks shows for the following evening. They said they would keep watch and let us know the next morning. Which they did. And we got to go to Yorktown to see the fireworks, which i had had my heart set on for months. I will stay at this campground anytime i go see my daughter as long as she continues to be stationed in Virginia. There aren't enough stars to give Anvil Campground! They are wonderful!

The people are great. The campground is nice and shaky. It's relatively close to everything. But the train! It's so loud it felt like it was in my trailer. My wife woke me up saying there was an earthquake!

We stayed for a week in our camper/van.The park will accommodate anything from tent or cabin camping to large motorhomes. Staff and guests were all very friendly and courteous, and the atmosphere is peaceful with the feeling of a little village. Staff is highly committed to customer service and will often stop the task at hand to answer questions. The park is very clean and well-maintained. There is a nice pool, shower facilities, game room, and laundry room. The location is on a bus stop for city transportation, and a small fee will give you a day pass. Transfer points will connect to Williamsburg, shopping, restaurants, etc. Jamestown is an 8 mile drive from the campground and a little farther to Yorktown or Busch Gardens. The night trains did not bother us in our RV, but the noise and vibration could be a problem for tent campers. Take ear plugs in case the noise is a problem for you. Be sure to check out the historical display and learn how Anvil got its name. We would definitely return to this campground, and we highly recommend it to others.

The Anvil Campground was a nice clean campground close to all the attractions. The staff and owner was very friendly and helpful. As soon as we walked in to check in we were greeted even though they were busy. They were very helpful telling us about fireworks in the area and bus schedules. It took some getting used to the trains that came by often and felt like they were coming through our camper but the owners can do nothing about that. Overall we loved it and will be back.

I checked in on a Friday night left a day early on Monday morning (planned on leaving Tuesday morning). The staff seemed very pleasant and the facilities were very clean an well maintained. Bathrooms and showers were very clean.....But. the tent sites are extremely small and no space between tent sites. The sites have hardly any grass, all hard dirt and sand. And to top it all off there's a railroad track at most 20 feet from the cramped campsite. Trains were going through about once every hour to an hour and a half all day and all night. It was so close my tent was shaking when the went by. Also the charged extra for having a 2nd vehicle yet they Had nowhere to park it. The only place to park is directly in front of your campsite and the campsite is only as wide as an F 150 is long. What a joke. Don't bother camping here.

Very nice, quaint, quiet campground. Easily accessible to all attractions. Staff are amazing. Bus service is great if you don't feel like driving and paying for parking. Nice pool and playground for little ones if you need it. A little tight for the RV spaces, but for us it was mainly a parking spot with having some dinner and a campfire in the evening. I would recommend and stay there again.
