“Colonial Heritage - example of bad modern golf architecture”

Colonial Heritage Golf in Williamsburg
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Colonial Heritage is a newer course in Williamsburg. It was designed by Arthur Hills and located in a retirement community. It is ridiculously hard with too numerous blind shots, tricked up greens and overly penal approach shots. The slope has recently been adjusted to 140 - from the members tees ! there are also long distances from green to tee and we felt as though we spent half the day riding in the cart. Our round with no one in front of us took 4 1/2 hours. The only thing positive is the course is in good condition. This type of design is what's killing golf in America. A course that is difficult does not necessarily equate to a course that is good. The vast majority of golfers would find this layout frustrating too time consuming. Unless you are low handicapper, I would suggest not playing here.
