We enjoyed a wonderful 3-night stay at The Cedars. Bob was a great host with a fun sense of humor. The breakfasts each day were different and very tasty, usually an egg creation, meat, and a wonderful fruit crisp. The rooms were immaculately maintained and very charming. The location is walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg and across the street from the historic college campus. The Williamsburg Winery is also only a couple miles down the road. There is even a garden and gazebo behind the hotel as another option to chill out. I highly recommend the Cedars to relax, shop, or do some serious sightseeing.

Hi Allan,

Thanks for taking the time to post this wonderful review. We very much appreciate it.

We did have fun during your visit. The Winery had record sales that day I understand! Did you have anything to do with that success?

We hope you get the chance to visit sometime in the near future. A second visit automatically enrolls you in what I call the "Sleep Around Program." It's not what you think, if you stay in every room, we name a room after you!

Have a wonderful summer.

All the best from the crew at the Cedars.

My wife and I were married on July 12, 2013. We picked the Cedars of Williamsburg as the base for our honeymoon in Williamsburg. Are we ever glad we did! Bob Tubbs and his staff are among the most gracious people we've had the pleasure to meet. Bob made us feel so much at home that we hated to leave at the end of our stay. His local knowledge was invaluable and his wit and outgoing personality put us at ease right away. The property is exceptionally well maintained and clean. It is surrounded with georgeous trees, flowers, and birdfeeders and has a delightful gazebo for relaxing. It is right across the street from William & Mary and but a short walk to Colonial Williamsburg. My wife and I highly recommend the Cedars and are planning to return as soon as possible.

The rooms were clean & well maintained. The grounds are beautiful with sufficient parking. The staff is excellent. The food is wonderful. The building is historic and charming. It's a short walk to Colonial Williamsburg with a nice view of William and Mary College.

Room Tip: We stayed in the George Washington room. The bathroom was rather small, but sufficient.

Hi Tina,

We sincerely appreciate your wonderful comments and feedback. At the end of the day, it is when we know our guests have enjoyed our hospitality that it all comes together.

The George Washington is a favorite for many visitors. The only thing is that George used to grind his teeth at night and we are still occasionally finding slivers in the pillows from time to time...but they are worth something on eBay! ;-)

We hope to host your next Williamsburg visit. Have a great summer.

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for taking the time to post this review on our behalf. It sounds like we need to schedule another visit. You are correct about Christmas, there is no better time to visit Williamsburg than for the holidays. The combination of Colonial Williamsburg holiday tradition and Busch Gardens Christmastown will quickly become anyone's holiday go-to place.

See you on Facebook.

After a long drive through a terrible storm, we were greeted at the front door of The Cedars by Darren, who was polite and refreshing. Bob, Grace, and the rest of the staff were inviting and gracious. Our rooms were quaint and the breakfasts were delicious. If we return to the area, we will certainly stay at The Cedars again.

We definitely enjoyed our stay here. The George Washington Room was very clean and pretty. We enjoyed the sitting area off the bedroom which also serves as an extra bed if needed. We were on the first floor, right next to the front door. You can hear everything, but we didn't mind. The bathroom is pretty tiny so only count on one person getting ready at a time. The location of the B & B is perfect, right across from William and Mary, as well as a 10 minute walk from Colonial Williamsburg. We were greeted from Bob, one of the owners. He was friendly and told us all we needed to know to plan our time in Williamsburg and Jamestown. Breakfast was really good, plenty of options and tasty food. Bob definitely shows his humor and keeps things lively at breakfast. Even though I tend to be a little shy, he made everyone feel comfortable and we enjoyed the laughter. A few college students have been hired to help and they were very respectful and helpful. Perhaps I missed it on the website, but I would have liked to have known that the rooms (at least ours) does not have a TV, which was a first for us. While I understand why there is no TV and it is certainly not necessary, I would have liked to give my husband a heads up since the Stanley Cup Finals were on. We ended up going out to watch the game and finished up in the living room at the B & B where there is a TV and all was fine. There are always coffee, chips and water available in the breakfast room. Cookies are baked in the afternoon and set out for guests. The only thing I was missing (and I'm sure I would have been provided if I asked) was an ironing board/iron and ice for cold drinks. Overall, this was a very nice stay and we would definitely consider staying here again if ever in the area!

Greetings Kabecka,

Thanks for taking the time to post this wonderful review. It is very much appreciated.

We do like to have fun at breakfast but it is made that much easier when our "shy" guests join in. The question of TVs come up from time to time but every survey I've conducted, a majority of guests like the idea of no TVs. We do have two of them in the common areas and, for sporting events, we often send folks to a few choice sports bars in the area.

You are correct about the irons. We have them throughout the house. Cold drinks are always available in the game/breakfast room. We have also added a small refrigerator for those items guests want to chill.

The George Washington is one of our most popular rooms. To your point, it is next to the front door but it is pretty quiet both day and night. It helps that the structure is built with brick and plaster. Can't beat that old style of construction.

We look forward to a future visit. Thanks

Not sure what rooms all of the other reviewers stayed in, but my room (the Lord Bourtetourt room) was a huge disappointment. The carpets, towels, linens, and curtains were dingy and the bed felt and sounded like there was a paper mattress pad underneath. The room had a musky smell to it and the windows would not stay propped open. It was a cold night and we were really looking forward to the room's only noteworthy feature: the fireplace (even though it was only electric and not wood burning.) We spent at least 45 minutes trying to get the darn thing to work and were unable to call for help as it was after 10:00PM and a sign in the room said to only call after 10PM for emergencies. We never were able to get it to work.

The buffet bfast in the morning was okay. There was one redeeming dish, but the coffee was weak and not hot, the jam was in those little Smuckers plastic 1 serving packs, and the muffins were store bought. The owner was very nice as the other reviewers expressed, but no amount of niceness could make up for the disappointing room and breakfast.

I usually don't write reviews, but I felt deceived by all of the 5 star ratings/reviews and didn't want other couples, hoping for the romantic experience we were hoping for, to suffer the same fate.

Hi TravelLover88_13,

We appreciate the time you spent to give us this feedback. We completely understand your concerns and work very hard to make our guest's experience exceptional. Obviously we missed the mark for you and Josh. For that we are regretful.

I cannot change your perception of our linens. We do refresh our linens regularly but they are commercial grade.

As the owner, I wish you would have brought these things to my attention at breakfast. When "Lord Bortetourt" entered the breakfast room that morning, I got the impression you were enjoying your stay. The very-berry french toast is our number one requested dish. This is the only review that suggest differently. Our menu offers a wide variety of choices, including vegan, lactose and vegetarian options. The muffins were freshly baked and I'm not sure what you were expecting for jams.

As it was late May for your visit, we normally turn the gas off to the fireplaces in late Spring. This was the case. Even a pilot light in the room can make the room uncomfortable for sleeping during the summer even though we do have air conditioning. If you had called the emergency number, we would have arranged to have it re-light for you. We recently upgraded our hot water tanks and that may have been the cause for the musty smell. I will look into the musty smell you mention. Although I have not heard the same complaint from any of the other guests.

All the best to you and Josh. I hope your Cedars experience has not put you off of Williamsburg. There any many other fine bed and breakfast experiences to be had here in town. Most local Innkeepers will offer a delightful experience...as we try to do. The Cedars has been an operating B&B since 1935 and as such, we don't have jacuzzis, etc. We do host over 4,000 people annually and very much enjoy our guests interactions. Occasionally, we miss the mark and for that we are truly sorry.

Have a great summer.
