“Please Don't waste your time or money!! Horrible”
Reviewed 26 February 2010

My boyfriend and I went on Valentine's day. I've been to many dinner theaters so I figured this would be fun. No way was I wrong! First they told us the doors open at 6pm. We got to the place about 6:10 and there was a sign taped to the door saying doors open at 7! Good thing we looked anyway, half the room was sat. We paid as soon as we walked in and were instructed to grab a salad packet (choice of 2) and take it to our seats. The drinks were way over priced especially for the venue. We weren't in a 4 star hotel to say the least. Our soup was served cold, then the salad was a bit brown. Thankfully the people at our table were really nice and made great conversation. When dinner arrived, every steak at our table was not cooked as ordered. I had the lasagna which was just awful :( The steaks were sent back and when they returned the server had no idea who's was who's and the pieces that had been cut into didn't match the cut pieces on the plate! Still not cooked right! We requested fresh steak and when these returned they were merely the old steaks with the edges cut off. This was just awful. In addition, the bathrooms didn't work and we had to walk outside to empty hotel rooms in the back. Not a way to spend a romantic evening. Half of our table walked out in disgust. I emailed this company and they made no contact back to try and resolve this. Not worth the time or the money.

“A Major Disappointment”
Reviewed 30 July 2008

This review concerns the Mystery Dinner Playhouse "Death by Disco" at the Clarion Inn and Suites in Williamsburg. The short version of this review: Facilities that are poorly managed, mediocre food, and mediocre acting make a truly awful combination. First, the facility: A very plain, undecorated dining room. Bathrooms that were supposed to service the dining room were out of order, so you had to go to the front desk, get a key card, and traipse through the hotel to an unoccupied guest room to use the facilities. No liquor license currently issued for this facility, therefore no alcohol can be served. The food and dining "experience": No soft drinks, because the hotel allegedly hadn't received a delivery that day. (How hard can it be to get off your lazy butt and go buy a case or two of Cokes?) Water, iced tea and coffee were served. No glasses were made available for the tea, and they ran out of coffee during the dessert. Food was far worse than I've had in Army mess halls. It started with a tasteless soup made from the same canned vegetables that were served as a side dish for one of the entrees. The salad was limp iceberg lettuce with some cheddar cheese sprinkled on top. We had the vegetarian pasta, an overcooked noodle and cheese dish with some bottled marinara sauce poured on the plate as an afterthought. The fish entree choice was a slab of deep-fried flounder and some french fries, exactly like you would get at a fast-food restaurant. Dessert was a pretty good sheet cake and the only bright spot in a miserable dining experience. The acting: I've seen high school productions nearly as good. In summary, if you want to pay $39 a person to have a bad meal and watch crappy entertainment, this is the event for you. Otherwise, AVOID AVOID AVOID.

At mystery Dinner Playhouse, we contract for services with out host hotels/restaurants. At the time this review was written the company that leased the restaurant space, was lacking on many levels, and many of these complaints may have been valid. We have contacted the reviewer to see if we could bring some resolution to their problems, but have never heard back from them. Since that time, the hotel has taken over the restaurant management. Most if not all of these problems have been corrected, and we keep striving to bring a great evening of entertainment to our customers. We put comment cards out at every performance, and continually get good remarks about the food and show.
